View Full Version : I kinda like it.
<DIV>I see alot of posts that bash Guardian as a class, and claim that Zerkers are far better...well...I disagree. I kinda like my Guardian, and here's why.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When I made my dwarf, I thought about what kind of personality he would be, then I read the class descriptions, and based on those, I chose guardian. It seemed to fit my character and what I wanted to do with him far better than any other class/sub class, so as far as Role-Play Value goes, guardian is perfect. I did not set out in this game to be the biggest, baddest, Dwarf on the block...I set out to role play a character (that is after all what a ROLE PLAYING game is for.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Besides that, I have never seen any of the problems that people describe. I have no problems getting a group, or defending my party. To be honest, I like the fact that I can take a beating while the nukers other fighters take care of the offensive. I use my Sentinel/Stand Firm/Intervene abilities not to defend another fighter, but to defend my Healer or Bard, those charcters that can not take a beating, in case the aggro gets turned on them, that way they wont die before I can taunt the aggro back.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sure Guardians have their balancing problems that need to be addressed, but name one profession that does not have problems. I mean good God the game has only been live a month. Give the devs time, I am sure they will balance it all out.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All in all, I love my Guardian.</DIV>

<DIV>bones to balls, the best class it the best PLAYED class. Yes things can be broken and hinder your abilities, but I'll take a smart non-uber-fotm-played-well toon over ANY idiot playing ANY fotm class ANY day ANYTIME. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Zavoq you hit it right on, it's all about RPGing and keeping your casters from getting aggroed. I don't understand what all these people are complaining about. The game manual does a decent job on informing players what race, class and sub-class are. So when I read the manual I could pretty much figure out what the difference in Guardian and Berzerker would be. Another thing is aggroing a mob is more simple than what most people ranting about is.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If someone does the most damage in one hit they are getting aggroed. If someone in the group cast wards on group members you can most of the time expect them to get aggroed, simple. We all know that Wizards deal major damage so yes they are going to get aggroed most of the time like my wizard has. If the tanks are reacting quick enough they can keep the mob fro maggroing casters or weaker sub-classes it's really all that simple not all that complicated as alot of people making it out to be from the hundreds of post I have read.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Besides it's all about having fun roleplaying your character and making friends not 'hey look at me I'm 133t' shut the hell up with that nonsense. I'm sick of seeing people very high level hanging around where most lower levels are and just sitting there trying to get attention. Wake up most people could care less about you, your level, your animal form whatever so move on. If you want to be 133t come visit me in a game of BF1942 and BFV then I'll show you 133t and can brag about it.</DIV>
<DIV>Awesome. I am glad to see that I am not the only guardian that is having fun. Thanks for the posts guys.</DIV>

<DIV> Thanks Zavoq, Great post. I have been in many groups where they noticed a huge difference and we're glad that a Guardian was tanking for them. We set the pace for the group and hold the group together. I would love to see if they implement class specific items which would augment us even more. I can only see good things for us in the future.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

20 minutes after I became a guard, I came to these boards to read and 'learn' about the Guardian ways, but all I got out of this board was a ruined afternoon after reading all these messages. <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />I expect this class, as well as many others, to have problems and issues - heck, the game's not even a month old yet.Sadly, I now go somewhere else to learn how to become a better guardian and how to deal with the problems with our class.Yes, I am, too, having fun with this class and I'm sure somewhere along my guardian career I'll become frustrated as many here, but the challenge is in overcoming some these issues as a player and finding ways to keep having fun with the class I've chosen to play.

<DIV>I really hate coming to this board already. The **mods 4 teh win!!1!** game is still infantile and this already sounds like SK.Org. I played a SK in EQL for 4+ years, and I spent a lot of time on SK.Org, and participated in a lot of the Warrior vs Knight debates. In the end, it destroyed my desire to play the game. As one side would whine for months, they would get a bone. Then the other side would see that bone as imbalancing. And so the circle would continue....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now I come here, I picked Guardian this go around, because I just couldn't be a SK again after all these years. Now here I sit, right smack in the middle of the same mindless banter, that will never cease. I know this from personal experience. If you set down this path of "My class vs yer class" this early in the game... well then I fear there is not going to be much left of this game with in 2-years time. These arguements will never stop... if SOE comes out with a patch tomorrow that makes everything go away.. then berserkers will feel slighted, and they will start [Removed for Content] for a nerf...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Whatever....</DIV>
/agreeI came here yesterday looking for tips and information on being a Guardian. I am lvl 19 right now, have completed my Guardian quest and am already using my halberd <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. I was really bummed yesterday after reading all of these [Removed for Content] posts, and I started to wonder if all my time was wasted. Then I remembered, this is a GAME. If I enjoy playing my Dwarf Guardian, and people like playing with me, then great. I enjoy the game because I think my character is fun, and I love the people in my guild, not because I am "better" than anyone else. So, thanks for the post, it helped remind me why I chose my profession!NaugGuild Skara BraeOasis Server

<DIV>I too look forward to being a guardian. With just under 50% left to go, I'm getting might excited. <DIV>I like my Guardian as well, if I was given the choice between changing to Berserker or sticking with Guardian then I would stick with Guardian.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But, when the game went live there was an issue with the taunts being a little underpowered when compared with the hate generation of Berserker attacks, this has been addressed by the devs when they dropped the hate generation on certain Berserker attacks and upped the hate generation on our taunts.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As far as I see it, there is only one issue left to be dealt with and that is the usefulness of our 'guard' abilities, these are meant to be a defining part of our class yet they are next to useless.</DIV>
I became a Guardian last night. Woot! I'm trying to decide whether to do armor quests or buy carbonite vanguard plate now. I've heard that the AQ armor is slightly better to start with, but carbonite vanguard takes longer to master (lvl 30 instead of 25 or 26). Looking forward to my new profession. Now I want that Seargent-at-arms distinction <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Naug20 GuardianGuild Skara Brae

<DIV>Our guard abilities aren't useless, they are just very hard to use. I don't know about any of you but I try to keep Soldier's Stance on at all times, and this take 3 of our concentration up. Now that leaves 2 concentration to use a guard ability. That is p[lenty in my experience.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>However I do have a gripe about our guards, the duration/casting time. I believe that SOE meant for there to be two kinds of guards, guards that are meant to be cast before a fight, and those that are meant to be cast during a fight. In that respect, I think that the cast time on the shorter duration guards such as Allay be reduced. <BR><BR>Clane, Guardian of Freeport</DIV> <DIV>Toxxulia Server</DIV>
<DIV>Good Points. You need to know how to utilize your abilities to the best benifit of your group. For me, I keep Soldiers stance on at alltimes, and Sentinal cast on the Healer and the other weaker members of the group, incase agro gets lost.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> I have not however figured out what the difference between Sentinal and Stand Firm. Anyone know the answer to this?</DIV>

<DIV>There is one thing that I use to tell the diference between a person that knows how to play Guardian and one who doesn't. A person who knows how to play Guardian talks about thier group. A person who can't play Guardian talks about themself. If someone who knows how to play a Guardian says something is wrong, I read and consider what they say, sometimes even testing it. If you don't know how to play a Guardian, I don't even read it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There is a reason we are called a Guardian. <DIV>I've tried to stay the heck out of this conversation because of all the flaming going on from both sides. But this whole guardian vs. zerker thing has got me really frustrated because if the posters spent half their posting time playing out a guardian/zerker strategy, they wouldn't be in here posting. And let me tell you guys something, zerkers aren't the only class that can out taunt us. Let me point to a little skill that bards have to regen their groupmates' power. Every time it ticks, it generates hate toward the bard and it's almost impossible to taunt off that hate unless the bard's spell is cancelled. A level 16 bard held an agro train that a level 21 guardian and a level 22 monk could NOT cancel out.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Solution, bard does not cast the power regen spell until near the end of the encounter, making it easier to finish off the critters, not creating agro on himself and helping our power regen to the next encounter. The group cancels the effects of the spell before the next encounter. Problem solved.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If some of you would stop crying and go out and put together a real tactic with a zerker, you would find out that if the guardian holds main through about 2/3 of the fight and hands off to the zerker at that point, you can hunt higher conning mobs with a good sense of power management. I had a lot of fun figuring this strategy out with a zerker the other day. Maybe this is the way the devs wanted it. Maybe not. But with the way we were producing, I'd fight with a zerker any time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And yes, the zerker and I have tried the same mob cons without this system and you can't produce the XP results that the tag-team method allows. This is the way grouping should work.</DIV>

<DIV>38 guardian here. This class needs a boost, imho. Nobody care if people are happy/ashamed etc etc to be a guardian. It doesn't change the fact that this class has serious imbalance issues.</DIV>
