Qeynos Guardian Quest start NPC: Delacar Mithanson

Found in North Qeynos at the top of the stairs that lead to the castle proper. He is dark haired bearded human who stands to the right of the stairway. Hailing this Npc and selecting the options that lead to the guardian class will result in 2 quest.

Map link (area 20): http://www.gry-online.pl/eq2/maps.asp?ID=6

Guardian Quest Part I

Kill 25 Gnolls of Challenge

You must enter Antonica and slaughter 25 gnolls that are a green con or higher. How and were you do this is your choice. I started this quest at 18th level and went out of the North Qeynos Gate into Antonica from there went under the aquaducts and hugged the wall until I got to the rear of the Keep of the Ardent needle. There is pathing of up to 6 gnoll battlemasters all green con Solo’s. No loot just a 25 grind. Easily handled multiple Battlemasters with fair gear. Once I met the 25 requirement I returned to Delacar and hailed him which led to part 2 of the quest.

Map link (area : http://www.gry-online.pl/eq2/maps.asp?ID=13

Guardian Quest Part II

Kill the Gnoll Leader

*** Prior to hailing Delacar make sure you have a bow/arrows and food and water that you have or will consume to assist you in power/health regeneration, this is not a requirement but it will make part II much easier***

After hailing Delacar and letting him know that you have culled out the invading gnoll threat he will tell you that he wants you to go to a gnoll valley were one of there leaders is planning a major invasion. You must stop this invasion by killing him. Accepting the challenge will result in your arrival into an instanced zone. Don’t bother looking for the scout friend of Delacar when you arrive. He is not there to help you kill the gnolls, like any scout he just watches and shows up when the work is done!

IMPORTANT… You do not have to kill every gnoll in the zone… IMPORTANT

Okay you will zone into a pass that has a pile of stones blocking the path out and the path forward leads you to the were you will fight. In that pass there are 3 fights. 2 static and one roaming. If you wait the roamers will path to you, 3 gnoll tacticians or defenders I believe. These 3 fights were fairly quick, I did not take enough damage to put my health bar into a yellow status but my power did get consumed. I made maximum advantage of HO (sky cleave / crushing anvil) and in between concussion blow and shield bashed to stun one of the mobs to delay the damage I was taking. After every fight I sat down and waited for my health/power and toughness buff to recycle. This cleared the mobs in the pass that you cant get around.

The pass spills out into a valley area, from the entrance you should see a Gnoll commander running around in a Michael Jackson red leather outfit with a bunch of gnoll whelps circling around him (don’t ever tell me the developers don’t have a sense of humor). Ignore the whelps and shoot the commander with an arrow to pull him to you. Kill him and rest.

Now hug the right wall until you get in line with the druid circle (Stonehenge circle for non EQ1 players). If you look in the circle there are three Gnoll spiritist looking up at a gnoll defiler. The spiritist are all linked DO NOT PULL THEM unless you be beta ubba or just want to see for giggles if you can handle the pull. Just off to your right should be a 2 spawn of tacticians/defenders don’t get close to them while your preparing for your next fight against the defiler.

The Gnoll defiler can and should be pulled next. He is a caster so use concusive blow and shield bash to keep him interrupted. Pull him to you with an arrow as far away from the circle. Make him run to you. If you stand to close and pull you will be greeted by a magic bolt of ouch cant mitigate that damage very well. If you keep your back to the wall and shoot he will run to you in melee range then try to cast. This saves you one magic bolt of ouch! Rest.

After killing the Defiler look along the right wall you followed. It should lead back to another set of 2 gnolls and behind them a dark elf negotiator/ambassador and the gnoll leader.

The 2 gnolll spawns prior are easy pull fight and rest to recover situations.

Once they are cleared the elf and the gnoll fight is linked. The gnoll is a caster and the elf is a bard. I recommend killing the gnoll first since the magic bolts of ouch hurt. It’s a tough fight. I understand that once this is done the scout show up and the quest is complete. I don’t know if this part is true since I died both times (ya I aint the ubbaest )first death was from the three spiritist and the second from the gnoll leader because I chose to kill the bard first which allowed the leader to nuke the snot out of me. I don’t really count the second because the gnoll leader and I both died at the end of the fight an earlier wound skill doted him to fall to his death after he nuked me one last time.

I arrived in windstalker village flew back to Qeynos and when I hailed Delacar DING here is you halberd award and automatic recovery of you spirit shard. The first death I suffered I found my shard right were the spiritist nuked me into the ground when I went in the second time so don’t panic your shard will be waiting for you.

From what I have read if you do (and you should after reading this) survive the fight that pesky scout will pop in somewhere and talking to him zones you back into antonica somewhere. Just get ye to Delacar and demand that Halberd of why do guardians use 2h weapons and the bad guys get a cool shield!

Hope this clears the whole thing up for everyone

Rahge 18 Warrior/ 16 Outfitter

Armor is my watchword
Keeping the mobs attention my Life!

Message Edited by Rahge on 12-01-2004 07:20 AM

Nice post.

Is this only avail to L18 and higher? I wouldn't mind doing the 25 gnolls sooner.

Also, is Delacar the same NPC for all Warrior as well as Crusader subclasses?

I am not sure what the starting level for the quest is, I suspect 18 is the magic number. I can say that I hailed him at 15 and it did not trigger a quest response. Most of the other post here state 18 so its kind of a cattle logic but there it is.

Delacar is the NPC for the Warrior Beserker/Guardian heritage quest. I do not know who the NPC is for the Crusaders to select Paladins. I would try the Paladin class board and see if they have any information. If I recall its about rescuing some hostages and the posters level seem to be at or around 18 as well.

Good Luck

Rahge 18 Warrior/ 16 Outfitter

Everfrost

Armor is my watchword

Keeping the mobs attention my life!

This guide was accurate, thanks for the walk through. The one thing I would add is that I wasn't sure how to "get out" of the zone. If you walk back towards the valley, you will find the scout. Talk to him and he ports you to Antonica (near the Qeynos Hills) entrance.

As the previous poster mentioned, for the last fight, take out the caster first (the gnoll), and then the bard is cake. I never had my health drop below 50 percent any of these fights.

after you kill the solo defiler (blue solo) that is surrounded by the three spiritists (priests), dont get cocky and go for the priests (blue solo).i just died thinking i could take them out. Apparently, they have quite a good amound of healing power. besides that bump in the road, this quest is cake.

Yagyu's tips** I did this first time with no probs **1. Ignore and avoid the Whelps.2. Ignore and avoid the priests surrounding the blue in the circle. They heal like crazy.3. Pull said blue with bow.4. Make sure you have gnoll master rage on for the final fight.5. For some reason i got Hero's armor 4 (!!!) times from my HO's. perhaps the odd change here?6. Sword and board gents only, these are casters. Sheild bash allways.7. I killed the final bard first since it buffs the final gnoll, but mheh whatever.8. Scout teleports you back to near SH in Antonica. Run left, past keep to griffin.9. Reward is **mods 4 teh win!!1!**e. Main reward is being a guardian.10. XP is not as good as I heard.11. The Guard Merchant near the quest giver buys at full price. This is where the Defence **mods 4 teh win!!1!**e stick almost ended up, until I realised SOE may change the reward to the Ageis Shield. DONT SELL IT until we get word from SOE.Min lvl: 18. <--- me at the time.Max lvl: 19 full.Final advice = HO's are your friend!Yagyu.

If you are really hurting for silver, go find a scroll drop or something else.
