As posted on the EQ2 OGaming front page. Felt it should be posted here to reaffirm its message to any offended.---"During this last week I’ve received quite a few emails from those of you in the community who were upset about the new line of ads we had in our rotation. I appreciate every single one of those emails sent to me, although I wasn’t able to reply too many. Just before the holiday weekend those ads were snuck into our rotation and we weren’t able to remove them until earlier today. We’re sorry this happened in the first place and I want to assure you that steps are being taken to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again in the future. Here at OGaming our viewers are the most important thing. We work very hard to bring you the most accurate and entertaining content around. When our viewers are upset, we do all we can to take action. We appreciate your patience in this matter and hope you continue to use EQII OGaming as your one stop resource for EverQuest II.Best regards,Andrew “Tamat” BeegleEQ2 OGaming Community Manager"---

Please just make it so someone can pay a couple bucks a month and not get ads, ever.

Honestly, I temporarily stopped using your site based on that flashing "horror" ad, I simply couldn't stand looking at it.

But I'm glad it's gone and things are back to normal, and I do use your site daily, and you have so much content I think you'd be justified going the route that Alakazam went in EQ, which was to provide a basic service with ads, but a premium service with more info and without ads.

Just my two cents, I appreciate the content, and please keep up the good work.

What ads were people complaining about? The ones for plat selling affiliate sites? Or the obnoxious flashing banners?

Nice add for more hits. Didn't ogaming get bought out by that big game money seller? Or am I mistaken that I read that somewhere?

I didnt see any ads for EQ2 pp, only WoW. But the links will take you to sites selling EQ2 pp...so I personally dont like it...

And as far as I know Sunlei...yes, they were allegedly purchased by IGE.

And you cannot deny that Ogaming, by far, provides the highest quality and most indepth information about all aspects of EQ2 out of any fan site on the Internet. If you want to do any extensive EQ2 quest, there are basically two ways to do it: the hard way where you have to figure everything else out yourself, or the easy way where you can do it in one tenth of the time with a complete walkthrough just by looking it up on Ogaming.

The site also provides invaluable material to crafters, such as complete spell lists by class that any sage, alchemist or jeweler can use to quickly make a set of spells for someone in a given class and range. I probably wouldn't pay more than that, but that amount seems more than fair. I bet if you implemented a premium feature program for your site, while still providing free services for those who choose not to pay or cannot afford it, you would dramatically exceed the revenues and income you are presently collecting from ads alone.

I have friends and am friendly with several people who work for or own other fan sites, please don't think I'm making a commericial pitch for Ogaming, I'm not. I'm just trying to suggest a way that people in my situation can happily pay a little bit of money to access the information on Ogaming in a more pleasant and useful manner. I definitely understand why they need to sell ad space on their site, nobody should be expected to provide any service at a loss. Just please charge me and others and collect the same amount of money or more, so that I don't have to look at the flashing and plat selling ads to begin with.

Thank you

Even if it was the best site out there and had every item, every quest, every spell, etc. on it, I would not use it for that fact and they sure wouldn't get my money. For some clarification, Tamat, can you please let us know if in fact Ogaming is owned/partnered/or has some other business relationship, besides advertising, with any of the "gold selling" websites. Let's hear it from the source. Thanks!

For spells, I use this site anyway - http://home.comcast.net/%7Eeq2gamedata/main.html. It provides much more detailed, and up to date, info on spells and upgrades. There is a lot more sites out there that have this info.

Not to totally derail, thanks for letting it be known that you "removed" the adult ads. Some kids look at this site for help and it is good that it is not made available to them on more websites than usual.

With everquest one, soe would not post or list in their links those websites that got taken over by that big game money seller.

As it should be and it was awefull for those communitys from say the monk messageboards and others to be taken over by the mafia gold sellers.

Those gold sellers websites would never have mods and blue names from their websites.

Some eq1 websites never sold-out to that gold-seller..not many but a few didn't sell out.

And if ogaming sold out, I want to know because I'll never recomend that site to anyone or use it. There are plenty of other great sites that aren't sell outs.

It does bother me about the plat selling ads on there.

Sure I dont have to look at them...sure I dont have to be bothered by it. Its not wrong of me to be bothered by it though. I read everday (like you probably) about these sites sending spam to players through tells and the mailboxes. I dont like any company that makes it their business to violate the EULA.

Again, I dont care who owns ogaming. I will still use it when I cant find my answers here. Do I ever click the ads there? no. Do I ever click ads on any website? no.

So I guess they can keep putting them up, and it wont make a difference to me...I just dont respect it.

Coffee, caffeine, coffee, caffeine

Too much typing too little liquid eye opener, sorry to offend you in any way Ixnay.

I saw the flashing HORROR ads and it was almost enough to trigger epilepsy (spelling?) and I don't even suffer from that.

Taking off the adult ads, dang! I was truly hoping to sell off about 40 years of my adulthood so I could go steal my 6-year-old nephew's toys... They are SO cooler than mine when I was his age!

Oh well, I guess I'll have to stick with EQ2 intead... /grumble

Howard

(tongue SERIOUSLY in cheek)

The hypocracy of this thread is truly mind-boggling. You will get all high and mighty about plat buying, yet will read a quest walkthrough? You are all just [Removed for Content] off that, like the plat-buyers, you are not smart enough to play the game without aid, but too poor to buy plats. So you try to live in some fantasy land where your cheating is less bad than other's cheating.

Moreover, most people will indeed use the site for the quest walkthroughs regardless of who owns it, what ads are displayed, or anything else. O'gaming is the most popular site in the EQ2 community without a doubt, as well as the most useful site with quest walkthrough information and tons of other useful information. Which makes it the perfect outlet for ads that promote plat buying and selling since it gets the most exposure to the playerbase. I'm quite sure that the majority of players that disapprove of plat buying and selling will continue to visit the site for information as most will turn a blind eye to the ads. I don't think many will look at reading quest spoilers as cheating or put both into the same category as plat buying and selling although I'm sure there's an argument to be made there.
