Savanja of Ten Ton Hammer enlightens with a nicely written piece about the Everquest 2 forum moderation and it's purpose.
Most big forums have this nifty little thing they like to call “The Rules”. And unlike the book by the same name (which I tossed out the moment I realized the whole thing was based on the idea that chasing boys was bad), this is a must read. This gives every poster a basic understanding of what is expected of them while they exercise the privilege of posting on the forums. Now it’s all pretty typical stuff. Think of it as the polite way of behaving when you visit someone else’s home. You go there for discussion and camaraderie, not to bash your own personal opinions and ideas into someone’s head. And just as it would be rude to toss insults at your host while in their home, the same applies to forums. Be nice to the red names, and be nice to those that hang out on their turf.
A great read if you spend even a fraction of the time on these forums that we do. Read the rest of it hereOh and while you are there be sure to check out her guide to Obelisk of Lost Souls

Message Edited by Radar-X on 02-28-200603:02 PM

Hmm lots of cross referencing and linking going on here, yet this is not permited on Splitpaw. Quite a few threads have been closed with this as the reason. Someone care to enlighten us as to what is allowed to be linked and what isn't?

Lots of cross referencing....where exactly? There was one thread in NGD which I can justify as the writer having been very involved in this community since pre-beta. Also this actually involves the entire community versus the Splitpaw "Go here so we can complain about SOE CS" community thread so I see a big difference. Feel free to show me "lots" of cross referencing. You guys on Splitpaw are upset and I understand that, but its in everyones best interest if you kept that drama on your server boards.

No drama from me or having a go at anyone. Just a simple question asking for clarification as this post is about moderators.

Blackguard recently had a great thread linked in this article answering a lot of questions. As for your specific issue, I'm not familiar with it. You might want to contact the moderator, just understand they have to make judgement calls at times.

Message Edited by Radar-X on 03-01-200610:39 AM

If it is a topic they would be concerned about, they'd already be looking for it on a specific board.

And, besides all of that, your post was a derailment from the purpose of this thread. Radar works for a fansite (hence the title and name color) and periodically posts links to helpful or inciteful articles. And, as it has been said before, questions along this line are best suited for private messages sent to a moderator or BG. Any further derailments will be removed from this thread out of respect to the OP.

So, without further ado, may this thread continue on its merry way.
