View Full Version : Worst FF Ever

We are really very disappointed.

In regards to the food:I tried to be nice and let the first 1,000+ people get their food first. My husband and I made a grave mistake by doing so. There were about 50 of us that didn't get our dinners because they ran out of food.

After we waited a half hour for them to refill the trays, they tried to give us frozen tortillas and fried chicken. I don't think breaded home fried chicken on a frozen tortilla tastes very good. They were ice cold and chewy. The chicken was supposed to be fajita meat with peppers and instead they tried to give us quick fillers.

My husband said "well maybe we can just have some desert for dinner". We couldn't even bite into the churros!

We ditched the faire and had to have dinner out. We hadn't ate anything all day and was at our hungry ends. Either SOE gave them a bad estimate on the number of folks having dinner...or they were completely unprepared to feed us properly. I don't know what happened but it was awful.

- The venue itself was beautiful and the actual sessions were more organized than previous years.

- Our goodie bags from registration were empty. They said 'first come, first serve" but we arrived an hour after registration opened. I didn't know that was considered 'late'. This is something I will have to remember for next faires.

- In previous years they handed out t-shirts and bonus stuff... but this year they tried to make us pay for them. I don't feel like I should have to pay for a Free Realms t-shirt or a GIRL shirt. Those are walking advertisements for you!

- I had thought since Sony was celebrating their 10th EQ anniversary this year it would be special. It wasn't. We didn't get cake, we didn't get any EQ commemorative cards, nada. They said "we celebrated the birthday by announcing our new expansions". I said "they do that every year".

- They really shoved the merchandise down our throats this year to. You couldn't go 10 minutes without them announcing their 'sponsors' over and over. Remember to check out the vendor booths, thanks to our friends from Nvidia and PNY! Thank you Bigfoot! Buy our new LON cards! Be sure to pick up a t-shirt! Be sure to buy our art book! It was just non-stop. I understand the importance of merchandising. The repetitive selling just got to me this year. Maybe I'm alone on this.

I'm sure my post will be deleted but if anyone does manage to read this and felt the same way...you are not alone!

Food /was/ terrible. I was stuck in the lines too until I realised one line had meat, one line had rice, one line had fajitas, so I just jumped between lines and picked up what I needed. (there was an odd taste to the rice too so I skipped eating that). But from the sound of it, you didn't miss too much on the food anyway, there were a couple of people throwing up later who'd not been drinking, but were violently ill. So... yeah, food wasn't good alas. Lack of a 10th birthday cake was a missed chance too. But hardly worst FF ever. Apart from the food, I still had a fantastic time, was tons to see and do, everyone was in a great mood, the announcements appeared well received and the whole FF seems to be being run really well, it shows they've done this a few times. I liked the hotel/conference rooms and that you didn't need to trek across the casino everytime to get there and back (which is lucky as the stale smoke smell is terrible.). In fact, the food in the rest of the hotel wasn't good either come to think of it, overpriced bitter coffee/stale sandwiches, plastic tasting sausages for breakfast, Bally's appears to have a big problem with the quality of the food they provide in a few of their places.

My first FF here for the wife and friends and we don't really have anything to complain about. We showed up about 5:40 for registration and had no problems unless i missed something in our bags (knife, mints, posters, coupons, itinerary.

Never really felt like i had to buy anything, wandered to the soe item station and picked up my 10th anniversary book, a hat, and a shirt for the wife. Picked up some other patches at the other store across the way. Never really felt like buying anything else or pressured to either when wandering around.

We were about halfway in the line for the last event and ended up shacking at a public table with some random eq1 and eq2 peopel and had a good time watchign the event and chatting with them while waiting for it to start. Did;n't have a problem getting food (couple tacos, salad, beans, rice) but yeah the churros were as solid as a rock (still ate 3 lol)

*I* have to say it was my best one yet since it was my first but to be honest i had a great time. I came and went as i pleased from panel to panel to see the ones I wanted and got some good and friendly/funny info from the SOE staff the entire time. Had a great showing of the Agency by one of the staff right at the end (awesome looking game, gimme tattoos!) and loved the costume contest most of all i think.

Hopefully you just had some really bad luck and next time it will be good! Might have been all my bad luck was used in the casinos for me this weekend =)

I would have to agree with previous posts. The Saturday night dinner was a bomb as far as the food. Running out of food? Who in their right mind could even think about allowing this to happen? Quality of the food was just as bad. As far as other people in line at the buffet? Please show a little courtesy when in a buffet line. Don't eat in line then take food out of the buffet with the same hand. People even took bites out of food and put it back in the buffet for everyone else. Thanks!! really appreciated. The swag bag was disappointing as well. When my wife and I received ours, there was nothing more than the standard T-Shirt and the schedule. A tenth anniversary cake would have been great to see.

Otherwise, I would have to say that this was one of the best Fan Faires I have been to so far. The other attendees were a lot of fun. The staff were great, helpful, and fun to talk to. Will I go again? Definitely. But i just may skip out on the banquet dinner and just go have some fun on my own.

I had a great time at Fan Faire this year. But, I always score that sort of event on the people I get to see again and meet for the first time. The panels were extremely informative.

As for the meals. Meh. I can't complain. I've been to enough conferences in my life that had much worse food and even worse service. This was 5 star in comparison to a few of those.

I'm not sure how to respond to the OP regarding the tee-shirts. I didn't get in until well in to the late night gaming session on Thursday and we both got full swag bags, tee-shirts included. /shrugs

The knife however.. hehe.. more than a few people got stopped at security for those. I didn't, but I didn't realize what it was either until we got home. XD

I had a great time, but this was my first fan faire The food wasn't anything to write home about but I didn't exactly come in with high expectations of top end food being dished out. I wasn't sick after eating it - if something was wrong with it everyone would have been sick so that was probably all in the mind of those people that were.

Bummer you EQ people didn't get a cake. Those of us from SWG got 2 cakes for our 6th year anniversary at our final panel. That could be because SWG's anniversary was on that day.

This was a first Fan Faire for my husband and I and we had a great time. I think the only dark cloud was when we ran into someone who played on our server and we were like " hey cool, we're from that server too" and this guy looked at our badges and said to get away from him cause our guild was ruining the server. We thought he was kidding at first, cause we didn't know this guy, but he just gave us this " talk to the hand" gesture and walked away. We was just like W.T.F?! It dimmed our enthusiasm for a while but we did our best to forget that dork and get on with having a good time.

As for the food, Bally's restaurants, room service and banquet food left a lot to be desired, but we found the Sbarros and Nathans and Haagen Daz on the bottom floor so it was all good

I had an outstanding time! We arrived on Monday so we had a full week of Vegas before the festivites started on Thursday.

I didn't win the costume contest... I didn't even make top 10 (dark elf conspiracy!!) but I looked darn good anyway.

I never did run into Spyderbite, as far as I know. Which is weird since I was wearing my guild cloak the whole time, dressed up as my character on Saturday and was at EVERY panel. Spyder was avoiding me!!!

Thank you everyone for the event! I'm sorry I didn't get to participate in the Live Band Kareoke, I was #2 on the back up list. Blah.

I love my Dev team!! LORE! More LORE! I'll help write it too!!!

I hope to do it all again next year and then some!!

I have been to many of Fan Faire of past. This was one of the better ones.

Yes the food was not the best and I think I know why. I think they blow the budget on it the night before with the open bar. HELL give me that open bar the night before and crappy food the next night any day. Our group had a blast that night.

As far as a cake it would have been nice. I have seen them do that before and people still complained because they didnt get a piece. To tell you the truth I could miss a few slices of cake. Maybe what would have been nice is that one of us got a cake for the Devs to thank them for the great 10 years of online gaming that they have given us.

OVERALL it was a great experiance. I will have some fun memories and new friends that will last me a lifetime.

Cheers,

Mirsad

I had a great time, and the Last Nights food while not very good was atleast better then last years. However, once again they could have Set-Up the tables better, there where Huge lines for the first two tables, and the second two had fairly short line, because it didn't look like there where 4 differant table... accually on the way back I think I saw a 5th.

The Chirros where deffinatly hard...atleast when not eaten right out of the pan(took a bite on the way to the table and it wasn't that hard then). The Cinnimon Chips where good though, and the Pie thing was ok.

All that said the FIRST night of Food(at the Welecom Party) was very good IMO, so maybe they just don't know how to make anything but Sandwiches. There also was ALOT left over it seemed...so that could also be why they where short the last night...didn't want lots of wasted food, and they didn't know that the Welcome party is about 1/2 as popular as the last night party.

As far as other food at "Bally's" resturants I can't comment as I ate at the counter place across from the Buffet in Paris.

And as far as "Advertising" for the people that PAID FOR THE EVENT, um if I am letting you give my product away Free, I shure as heck want you to say my name...and other then at the very begining of the events, when Brenlo "Thanked our Sponcors" the only times he said thier names was when he was giving thier products away as prizes. And as far as LoN goes, it only was ever talked about in the same manor every other SoE title was talked about. To complain about that is just like complaining that they talked about SWG too much, and I didn't once hear them accually say buy our LoN Cards. Though they did point out many of the other "services" they had.

Shoot me a PM with your T-shirt size and address and I'll see what we can do.

Honestly was a lot of fun. My non fun moments were related to Ballys mainly except the one guy from my server who snubbed me irl after I said hi because he didn't like my ingame guild, heh.

While the premise of staying at a higher end casino hotel seems great, the reality was not so. I too was shocked at the internet price, this is something I normally take for granted even at roach motels. Also paying 3-6$ per bottle of water in this heat was a crime. If Sony decides to do this event again I would HIGHLY suggest providing water bottle dispensers (the 5gallon jug ones) in the event rooms (banquet ones, I did see a couple in the main event room). The monitary cost will be negligible compared to the customer faction gain.

As I've said before a great highlight for me on this was tracking down all the people dressed up for pics. It was like my own personal live quest and it gave me something to do during downtime.

Great raffles and by the way that Sony Ebook reader thing I won is actually really awesome!

Also I ship out to Iraq (yes bases still have to be manned/defended) at the end of July and wont be back till aroun aug first, so I reaaallly hope next fanfaire is in August so I can go to that one too.... and maybe then I'll be dressed up too =))

Likly because most Assume that thier guests really don't care about that...and for the most part they are correct. So they have slightly cheaper rooms with ala'cart internet. On the other hand hotels who cater to business people tend to have free internet access, they also tend to have free breakfests, but the room rates also tend to be slightly higher to compensate. Besides even if I was willing to pay the $14 for the internet...and I did one night... I don't think I would have gotten much use out of it.

2. And I didn't even try the No-Host bars durring the events(though I did get good use out of the free drink bars) cause I know they are always overpriced whereever you go.

3.and as for the panels I didn't get what I was looking for out of them But that's just me I cant blame SOE for that.

If you went for a walk down the strip not far out of Ballys there were people selling bottles of water for $1. Of course, you probably needed a bottle just by stepping outside into that heat, but you could at least buy 3 for the same amount of 1 inside the hotel...

What about the lack of goodies in everyone's goodie bags? I wanted the LoN card physical pack very bad, and it wasn't to be had...speaking with a few others who went, like nobody got em.
In regards to the food .....some people can't eat tacos and tortillas along with all the spicy salads and such. Might want to consider going back to a more diverse menu. But I will say that aside frpm no birthday cake the rest of the FF was just fine TANK YOU VERY MUCH lol.

I was hesitant about posting but heres my 2 coppers worth.

Ballys was a fine choice, indeed the internet access was expensive but i really didn't need it and my phone worked for what i did. Honestly, I didn't leave Ballys from Thurs. morning til Friday nite. Good central location and the rooms/facilities were fine enuf.

Ok, the goody bag.... this was terrible. I suppose I was one of the "earlier" people in line. I got my belly full and the food was "decent". I liked that they tried to move us through quickly with what, 8 or 10 buffet lines? Oh, the AMPeltinis were delicious and flowing ! We did need a cake or similar for the 10th year, seriously. Oh, our table had thirts scattered out, too bad 3 of them were size SMALL CHILDRENS lolol!

Poor Phathom, the new EQ producer, looked and acted scared as hell. His speech was, well, less than goosebump inspiring (unlike last year where I literaly got goose bumps).

The panels were fine enough. Not thrilling but not bad either. The movie EverCracked was awesome!

Throughout the weekend, the SOE staff was great. My favorites: Ashlane (hardest working employee!), Brenlo, Moomichi, Rytan (oh, i DIDN'T miss Merloc in the slightest). Smed was "less" than friendly getting my booked signed. I looked right at him, thanking him, and he just looked away, not a word, (I'll add, some guildies saw him in the hot dog stand downstairs w/ his children and said he was very friendly) *boggle.

Over all the Pluses outweighed the negatives but honestly, last years was better imho.
This was my 4th FF...Ballys was a good hotel...I was worried about my room but found it to be satafactory..I liked the walk to the convention site(s). As for the 10th anniverasy party I found it lame...Not having an off-site party was pretty bland..The food they gave us for Saturday was pretty sad...tasteless came to mind...Not eveyone loves tacos..they ran out of food...the meet and greet seems to have better food...the subs were SO much better...

I will have to say the t-shirts this year sucked...no mention of 10 years...no chars on them...The t-shirts were more for men than ladies...T-shirts in the past could be worn by both men and women...this year was the suck.

I know soe tries to make the FF's better than the year b4...but this year sucked..I am tired of FF's being in vegas...I know lots to do and what not...BUT SOE can find better someplace else.OMG...I saw a man die being hit by a taxi..this I can live with out..

I will say the forums were so much better planned..I think soe lost long time players...paying over 4 dollars for water was insane..

In game items suck...who wears a sheild in EQ? I paid over 700 hundred dollars to attend this FF...I got blisters on my feet...and an upset stomach for eating the tacos that were cold and nasty...If this was my 10 year party...dont expect me to come to next years FF...

It was my 4th Fan Faire as well and while I wouldn't classify it as "Worst" I did find it rather disappointing. As an EQLive player, for the 10th Anniversary, frankly I expected more. ESPECIALLY for the dinner and the EQLive Quest. The Dinner, the food was mediocre overall, but the biggest flaw was the fact that there was no Birthday cake. IMO they should have had one uncut cake up on stage for the EQ Team to blow the candles out on, and cut cake on the desert tables. I mean, sure SOE celebrated EQ's birthday last March, but Fan Faire was the place for the players to celebrate the birthday with other players, and we didn't really get that chance I felt. EQLive Quest felt thrown together. Having all of the Quest NPC's in the single room certainly didn't help. In past fan faires they were more spread out, which made it feel less compact. While we didn't have as much room at Bally's as we did at the Hilton or Rio, we did have the hallway out to the Palace rooms we could have used at the very least. And the quests themselves, randomizing the quest would have been nice... EXCEPT there was too much duplication. My guild ended up doing 3 "Sacrifices" and 3 "Defeats", but no trains (there were 2 trains at least that I saw were available, but we didn't roll them). The events seemed less fun then the past as well. We could've used more knowledge/trivia quests than the one we sort've had. (The word search with the 'trick' on the first line; Mayong seemed to have a trivia quest but, once again, we didn't roll that). All told, my guild hit 3 Sacrifices, 3 Competitions, 1 Song, 1 totem building (that was great), 1 trivia, and a 10th quest I can't even remember now, and frankly, I didn't find the total as much fun as we used to have.). I missed the Scavenger Hunt style quests, the Trivia ones, and even the Story Teller ones, among others. Plus, for a 10th Anniversary, the Quest theme could have been better. 2 years ago, when we had to start the Live quest by listing all of the expansions in order had a better "10 years old" feel/theme than whatever this one was. And finally (about the live quests in general), there are a lot of people participating in these, especially the EQ and EQII quests. (I think my guild was the 16th to turn in for it). For 20-ish teams participating in the live quest, that's 200 people taking part. Would it kill you guys to split up the prizes a bit to reward for 3rd and 2nd place as well as 1st? Run off some "Live Quest" T-Shirts before you come out and give them out for 3rd place or something. Oh and don't run 2 live quests simultaneously. Having SWG/EQ2 and Vanguard/EQLive stacked probably contributed both to the disorganization I felt and the crampedness we had. And my final negative thoughts for the fan faire, once again go to the Dinner. In particular, the Table setup and the LACK OF ASSIGNED SEATING. Fine, I can partially understand why you may not want to try to place everyone any more. But still, my guild had 15 people there, meaning there was no way we could fit around 1 table. But by the time we could get in, we couldn't find 2 tables close (or even 1 and a half tables) together. Nor could we find any particular server tables or anything we could gather around. Suggestion: Use the preregistration numbers to assign one or two or three server tables right off the bat, and then either use the hand made signs and set them up on tables early, or let sign-holders (1 per set of signs) go in and out early to place signs), instead of the mass confusion that we had. (Because of the confusion and such, my guild never really had a chance to get a good group shot of us all together. ) Bally's itself was an OK venue to be set up at. The centre was a little small and we felt cramped at times, not to mention some discussions 'bled' through the walls making it harder to listen to the panel in the room. Yes, if you bought water in the actual bar, it was 6$/small bottle, but there were water coolers in all of the discussion rooms, and a water fountain just outside the main doors, so I had no qualms there. Overall, I still had a great time. But I also expected more for the 10th Anniversary, which will never come again. I mean, would some more 10th Anniversary flagged items at the station store have killed you? I only noticed the notebook and the coffeetable book were 10th Anniversary. (Granted you're still selling a tonne of the 5th Anniversary stuff). I don't know if you (SOE) didn't have enough people working on Fan Faire or what, but overall, I felt that for a 10th Birthday party for EQ, it was very lacking, and most of what we did get was almost secondary. That most of all was my biggest disappointment.
