<DIV> The EverQuest II launchpad provides a handy way to download optional files in the background while your computer is idle, allowing you to jump into the action right away. This is made possible through a technology developed by Microsoft called <xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" ><st1:stockticker>BITS</st1:stockticker> (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) which allows us to send optional downloads to your computer a little bit at a time. Since some of our optional updates can be rather large in size, this allows you to spend less time downloading and more time playing. Files are received transparently in the background while your computer isn't busy doing other things.<xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" > <o:p> </o:p> Please note that this feature requires the use of Windows XP or Windows 2000. <o:p> </o:p> To enable background downloading, run EverQuest II and click "Download Options" on the launchpad. Select the optional audio packs you would like to download and make sure the "Download Immediately" box is not checked. The EverQuest II launchpad makes use of the same technology used by the Windows Update service. No. Background downloading only occurs when your computer is relatively idle and there is an active Internet connection. Nothing will be downloaded when your system resources are being used for gameplay. Background downloading will resume when you're done playing. <o:p> </o:p> Will this feature work with a dialup modem? The background download service waits for an active Internet connection before fetching new content. It will work as long as you remain connected. <o:p> </o:p> How does the launchpad know when to schedule new background downloads? If you have background downloads enabled, the launchpad will scan for EverQuest II files that need to be background downloaded whenever the launchpad is run.
