Hey,Well I was wondering how come if I book under the convention I'm getting charged from the Hilton $113 a night, but if I book b my self, not affiliated with the convention they can do $79 a night? If I don't tie my self into the convention will I still have access to fan faire? What would happen if I wanted to stay at a completely different hotel? Still have full access?

Not the lowest guaranteed price. If demand shoots up for rooms at the hilton during this timeframe standard rooms could eaisly go over 200 a night but if SOE block of rooms are still available you will get them for 113 a night

If I don't tie my self into the convention will I still have access to fan faire? What would happen if I wanted to stay at a completely different hotel? Personally I have stayed at the Sahara in the past as it is much cheaper and one stop away on the monorail.

Ashlanne please feel free to correct anything I got wrong.

Book NOW!!!! I warn you all because if you want to stay at the Hilton, the Star Trek Convention is the weekend before and the hotel may still have a few straggling guests.

I hope it doesn't affect participation cause I always stay at the Rio. The Hilton in Vegas makes me want to punch infants. Not literally of course. Best Buffet in Vegas and of course the Voodoo Lounge!

I live in Vegas, and I've actually stayed in several of the hotels. Never spent more than 130 a night. In order from best to least best, I'll list them here;Mandalay Bay - 120 (Just...top notch. I can't emphasize how top notch it is. Rooms are gorgeous, service is amazing. I lucked out when I got the room for that price for valentine's day, though. Probably be much more expensive now)New York New York - 110Luxor - 130Monte Carlo - 90Tropicana - 80 (avoid this one at all costs. Though I suppose it might have improved in 7 years...Just really bad service and experience.)If you go off-strip you'd probably get some good deals. Sam's Town is really nice. The hard part is getting to the strip from there, though.

You could stay at the "Y" if you wanted; the convention price for the hotel is merely a courtesy.

Many times the convention prices are higher than what you can get right when the convention is announced, but usually that quickly reverses itself as the hotel fills up, and then everyone is thankfull that a price was negotiated in the first place. If you can get the rooms for a lower price /now/ that doesnt mean in a few weeks even that you can get that price.Myself? every time I've been to Vegas except the last one, I've stayed at the Sahara, so I'm just staying there again. They treat me well there.

I was looking at the Sahara today. It's certainly cheaper and is only one monorail stop away, but it looks a little... downscale. Anything I should look out for, or would you recommend it?

When I was a young single guy on a limited budget The Sahara was a great value. Now that I am older, married and have more disposable income I would definately stay at the Hilton if I can make it this year. These days I am more apt to spend time in my room with the wife, when I was single my room was just a place to **BEEP**, shower and shave after hanging out all night. The one thing at the Sahara I did not like was some of the rooms do not have individual climate controls. Personally I like my room freezing so this was a big disapointment to me. Other than that no big negatives about the Sahara come to mind concerning their rooms.

Please do not bypass the profanity filters.

Once you have paid you'r registration to attend the FF,you'r in...no matter where you have booked you'r room. You dont have to stay at the Hilton. I stayed at the hilton when the FF was there in 2005.I wasent impressed. It wasent anything fancy, the room didnt even have a coffee maker in it.I paid $125 a night for nothing better than what some of my guidlies paid $40 a night for at the Sahara.Last year, some of my guildies paid $149 to stay at the Rio where the convention was held.I stayed at the Gold Coast and paid $45 a night. It was a 10 min walk to the Rio.And I thought the room was better than the Hilton (it had a coffee maker in it) was roomy and clean.

I guess it comes down to you'r finances. If you can afford $139 a night then have at it. I'm a single mother of 2 and money is an issue for me. If you look around you can find something that fits you'r budget.Room with a friend or 2 if ya can. I spent a limited time in my room...I slept showered and rested a little in my room, that was it.

The only good thing I see with the hilton is the location..Its on the strip, which means monorail. The monorail is a cheap way to travel.Even if you find you'rself off the strip you can share a cab ride for 3-4 bucks a person.

The only good thing I see about staying at the same hotel where the convention is being held is the convience. You dont have to travel...but if you'r with friends or guildies they will get you back to you'r room (where ever) it is.

So,do I pay $695 for 5 nights at the Hilton ( I like to come a day early and leave a day later) OR do I pay $225 for 5 nights at the Sahara?

Like I said, its your money..........Find what works best for you! I would like to think soe could do better for us,but after all, they are looking out for themselves,it's up to us to take care of us =).

I've always liked the Hilton hotels, Seems I end up staying at one almost every time I go on vacation. I think I'll give this one a shot also, never stayed at it on my previous vegas trips.I too have found I can get a slightly better price by booking my flight and this hotel together myself, rather than doing it seperately using the sony rates. Not that much of a savings, but enough to allow me to upgrade to a premium room. I've never been to a fan faire before in all my years of playing EQ1 and EQ2, so I am looking forward to it. I had already planned a gambling trip to vegas for this summer, so this works out perfectly.

When me and my husband went to the Fan Faire in Atlanta we stayed across town (not knowing) and we missed a few things, and then had to drive back across town to our hotel. I would suggest that if you choose not to stay at the hilton stay as close as you can to the hilton so you do not miss out like we did. We booked our room already and are counting down the days!!

The one issue I had with staying off-site last year, was that I got less sleep as I had to spend about 30mins round trip traveling to the hotel, I accually rented a car because I wanted to do some site seeing there as well.

If you don't have alot of money to spend and can get a site on the transit system or near the hotel for cheaper then do it as you won't miss out on any offical events, just be aware that you may get less sleep.

I stayed at the Luxor last year and loved it. Didnt mind the traveling either. Will probably stay there again this year, unless i wanna try something new....but im one of those people that when they find something they like...they stick with it.

Last year i stayed at the Sahara, yeah it was a jaunt from the rio but I like the sahara. Just took the monorail down than the free shuttle to the rio everyday. and it worked out. I just booked again today for fan faire. With flight and room it was $508. Thats from Minnesota though so dependent on where you look it maybe more or less. I got that price off of Expedia. So staying at the sahara again this year. Which hey is only one monorail stop away from the hilton.
