Finaly a date for Fain Fair is confirmed, but how smart is it to have it on the same weekend as GenCon?

Two big gamer events on the same weekend is a bad idea if you ask me.

Well since i have already ordered my ticket for GenCon, there is not going to be any Fan Fair for me

Better luck next year.

On top of the fact that you are having people like you, who now have to deside between GenCon and Fan Faire, and the fact that it means that SoE will have to either have a split attention or not attend GenCon at all. It also means once again SoE's big event is not going to be well covered if it's covered at all, do to coninsiding with an even bigger gaming event. Last year it was BlizzCon wich was bad enough, but this year is an Industry Wide convention they are going to be competing in the gaming news cycle for. While I think the dates at this point are the best they can get, it still dissappointing that they could not hold it over a weekend where nothing else in the game world is going on.

I was bummed by this too because I had a good time at our GenCon event last year. But like Kela stated we were limited on dates after the change in cities and such. If you check out Podcast #33 you can get all of that info.

Just trying to offer up some friendly advice. The hotel is pretty expensive for one person. When i went to book the room it was close to $600 just for me. So i started web searching for hotels in Vegas, and i found this neat little website called Vegas.com where you can book air and hotel in a nice little package. Most of the flights are nonstop, the Hilton is one of the hotels listed. My whole package including transportation from airport to hotel, and back to airport comes to $669 after all fees. It comes up costing less than booking seperate. Also, (not sure how far away from the Hilton this is because i've never been to vegas) one of the casino hotels is only $44.99 a night plus tax. Now... to come up with the $669 because I WANT to attend this year!!

I'm excited myself, I was originally going to go to San Diego Comic Con this year, but now I can't go to that I'm going to FF since I missed it last year. I know it totally sucks about it being the same weekend as Gen Con. I'm pretty sure that they tried there best to get FF on another weekend, but due to alot of things going on I have a feeling that this was the only option that was open.Yes it is sad but look at it this way VEGAS will be warm and drinks are cheap! and there is aton of geeky things to do!

As for locating the Hotel, what I did last year was use Google Maps and check the distances that seemed to work well. The Hilton has an added benifit of being on the Monorail System, meaning that any hotel you can find that is on or near that system is also a very cheap ride from the Hilton.
