Would it be possable once all the contracts are signed and such for this years Fan Faire, to have an intern or something start making phone calls about The '09 Fan Fair?

I know a boatload of work goes into putting on Fan Faires every year, but I think in the long run it would be easier to get a location, and perhaps cheaper to book the Fan Faire location farther in advance. It would also allow you to anounce the location farther in advance, and give more people time to schedule thier vacations around it. I mean IF you go with the Vote people only have 6 months to plan for Fan Faire and if its any of the Dates in the Poll for East Coast locations then your talking 4 months notice.

Personally I think it would be best to have the next Fan Faire location Signed and ready to be anounced at the Key Note speach at the End of Fan Faire Banquet. That way people would have upto a year to get ready, and it would allow you guys more time to prepare for it.

Granted it will be hell the first year you do it because you would have to be doing the 4-6 months of getting ready for the current Fan Faire while scouting locations for the next, but once that first year is past you would have more time for both.

There is no guarantee that a Fan Faire will be held every year. And with the current state of the economy it is foolish to expect such a commitment.

(see here) Including durring past downturns, wich for an event like this accually makes it easier to set up as there are less people occupying hotel space making the event cheaper to run.

What I am just asking is that they set it up with enough lead time that people can accually plan thier Vacations for it, I mean if at this point we have only weeks befor the first date posted and we still don't know when or where it will be.

I wont be attending the 08 FF...I have been to 2 in Vegas already.I know alot of my guild and friends wont be attending also. I would really like to believe that soe will change the location for ff 09. Hopefully on the east coast, its been awhile.I do believe we are due.Chicago would be great.

But I guess it comes down to where they make the most money. I think they will be surprised this year. The Hilton is so over priced. /shrug guess we'll see.

SoE had a site all lined up and ready to go with just a few documents left to sign when the deal for that property went though... and if you base your guess at the hints given during podcasts and such they where talking about the site announcement it was going to be on the East Coast, sense that fell through they had to find another site on very short notice, that they knew could handle it(without a site visit), and that could get the documents signed quickly, the only place really that could meet all those needs was Vegas and the Hilton... That said Vegas did win every Vote they held on this site, so I don't think they will have an attendance issue based on the site... however, it being opposite GenCon will cause attendance to drop some I think.
