View Full Version : Explain the Pricing for Fan Faire

Right, I'm trying to work out how the pricing is meant to work for this, so any help would be appreciated. From what I can gather from last year's site, the main Fan Faire ticket (for all days) is about $90. Which means the prices in the poll are the rates-per-night for the hotels in those places, right? (At the discounted rate, of course.) Which in turn means that the listed prices don't really mean much 'cos we could just find a cheaper hotel elsewhere in the city. But even then, the hotels confuse me. Let's assume that Las Vegas wins the poll and SOE picks the Rio again. Their rooms are listed as $115 per night in the poll, but all their rooms are doubles, or so it seems. So does that in fact mean that the price per night per person is actually half that? (Assuming everyone manages to pair up.) Or is it really $115 per person per night, and the rooms therefore cost $230 in real terms?

The prices in the poll are what the hotels we are looking at gave us for our event.

Those are the room rates. As I stated last year, you can find cheaper rooms here in Vegas that are usually just a tram ride away from the event providing they have it close to the tram this year. There is also complimentary transportation between a lot of the resorts as well. If they do Vegas again, I'll help people out as best I can with getting some information on altenatives of the main place as needed (i.e. Last year people between under 21 could not get rooms at the Rio for instance)..

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I for one have not gone to the Fan Faire before but I decided I would like to go this year.

No doubt entry prices would be the same as last year (or there about)

Prices are for the Hotel on a per room per night basis assuming either single or double occupancy. Most hotels these days charge the same amount for either 1 or 2 people in a room. If you want to have 3 or 4 people in a room there is usually an extra charge per additional occupant based on the theory that you will use more linens and soap and such.

And I can pretty much guarantee that $115 a night is NOT the Rio.

Personally, I'm hoping they go back to the Hilton. It's better to have your room only an elevator ride away if you are drinking Warp Cores at Quarks.

Yes, the Hilton was awesome. I much preferred their layout for events, too. Rio felt like a maze.

Standard price: $145.95 SEO Rate: $139 Wow. $7 savings per night. If you book a room, use a package deal through Sam's Club or Vegas.com or something, not the "awesome" SEO rate. Through Sam's Club, my wife found a package deal for about $800 that included flight for two from Denver and 5 nights at the Hilton. (We come in Wednesday and leave Monday, usually.)

Looking around best deal I see so far is through Sam's Club. While would be nice to turn it into a weeklong vacation, not sure that is financially possible. I haven't been to one of these since it was in St Louis years ago. When they say it runs from 14-17th is that all day all 3 days, or ?? trying to decide when to book flight for to arrive, and when to check out, so I can attend the whole thing, but not stay longer than I need to.

On that same note, how big of a deal is it to stay at the same hotel, or should I shop around for hotels and commute? How much is it going to cost me for transportation from airport to hotel and vice versa? I usually just drive to things like this, I'm not a big fan of flying, but with the price of gas where it is, flying is looking cheaper.

If money is a major factor you might want to consider the Sahara. it is one stop away on the monorail and the rooms are much more afffordable but the rooms at the hilton are much nicer

How much is it going to cost me for transportation from airport to hotel and vice versa? They make runs to all the hotels on the strip and drop people off. I am sure I paid less than 15 buck to get to my hotel. The trade off is that you might end up taking an hour or more to get to your hotel if your hotel is on the far end of the strip and the bus is making multiple stops. If you have six or more of people you might consider renting a limo. I can't remeber the hourly rate but taxis are limited to carrying 5 people I think so if you have a big group splitting the cost of a limo for an hour may be cheaper than getting 2 seperate cabs

Thank you, both of you gave me the answers I was looking for to better plan the trip and manage the costs.

When we register with our guild name, and 10 others happen to register also, does that mean we automatically get a 50% discount, as in a credit to our card? I am unsure how to "register a group" as it stated on the webpage. I am sure we will have well over 10 people from our guild attending, but not absolutely who exactly as of yet and other small details.

After the close of registration, we will tally up the numbers from each guild and issue credits to whichever card you used to pay.

We sort by guild name, so it is important that people enter their *properly spelled* guild name during the registration process.

Sites like Travelocity and Expedia seem to be offering a substantial discount on the hotel (specifically the Hilton--not all hotels) if you also book the flight with them. It looks like it'll be a little over $70/night instead of $139/night. Since I plan to stay for 4 days, that's quite a savings! In fact, if I were to accept some awful red-eye flights, it looks like I could get the flight and hotel together for about the same price as the hotel alone. (I live in upstate New York, for reference.)
