What could possibly beat last year's Fan Faire in Las Vegas, NV? You tell us! The time has come to pick a new location and as always, we want your opinion. Please vote on potential cities, dates and costs for Fan Faire 2008. You have 14 days to give us your two cents and help determine where the next great event will be held - so vote now!

What is a Fan Faire? The SOE Fan Faire is a Sony Online Entertainment-sponsored event designed to allow players the chance not only to meet one another, but also many of the more prominent SOE personalities. It's a great opportunity to meet the real people behind the online avatars and the game itself. Though attendees will have plenty of opportunity to mingle freely with one another and make new friends, they'll also have the chance to participate in a number of panel discussions and game-themed live events.

When and where are the Fan Faire events held?Fan Faire events are held in various regions throughout the U.S. and occur annually. We try to choose locations that will accommodate as many players as possible.

edit #1 - We no longer have the Orlando spot for the 26th through the 29th. The info just came in a minute ago so the poll unfortunately wiped itself because it was edited.

edit #2 - The 26th though the 29 is back on again... Someone kill me please... Poll wiped again.

I voted for Vegas. Meh. I like mid-west as it's a good distance from both coasts and let's face it- last year was FUN! Nice being in a city that sells itself on customer service so everything from the food to the hospitality is like nowhere else in the world. Florida is waaaaayyy too far. Hmmm.... New York would be fun too.

June in orlando? If you have never been to Orlando in June, it is something you will never forget. I have twice spend a week in orlando in June and both times it was 100+ every day with Max humidity. Vegas in August was bad enough, but at least there was something to do in the area and every place had AC. Definitely not voting for Orlando in June.

Lets see Orlando in June... 120deg in the shade and 100% Humidity, and Raining at the heat of the day, heck when I was last thier in May(I think) it was 90Deg and 100% Humidity at 5am(took a red eye), or San Diego in June 75deg and a Cool breeze, unless the Santa Anna's are up.

I choose San Diego... though Las Vegas in Sept is not too bad, I have places I can say for free in San Diego.

If the date was different, I would have voted San Diego, but that date range I'm already going somewhere else. So I voted Vegas, though I hope it's NOT at the Rio, as I want to stay AT the hotel where it's at, but not pay EXORBITANT prices for a room again. That's what was so great about Atlanta a couple of years ago, as it was a GREAT hotel, but decent prices too.

For future reference.... Under construction, is a brand new Convention Center. Where? Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Perhaps in 2009, or 2010, you could hold Fan Faire at this new venue. Not sure what their prices will be. But, if there are enough reservations, they could come down in price. Especially if they sell out the house. Projected capacity is between 200 and 300 rooms. Overflow could be redirected to other hotels in the area. Other sites during the stay would be the Plain people, aka Amish, Mennonite, Brethren. Strassburg Railroad, American Music Theater, Sight and Sound Millenium Theater (Live Christian Presentations), Rockvale Square Outlet Shopping.

Think about it... please?

Yeah, I agree with a few. I wont vote for any of those locations. Why is it with larger companies, when they have events that it is always south or southwest, NEVER the northeast part of the country. Get a life. If all the larger companies always end up goin south seems to me like they just want to have their events as far south as they possibly can. Heres an idea why not have it in the carribbean or even farther south. I guess the north isnt any good for the large companies they cant take the heat in summer or the cold of winter it seems.

It would be nice if it was on the East Coast in the northern part for once. Boston is always nice and so is New York, lots to do in both places. Heck, I'd even go if it was South Carolina (it's still within driving distance for me, I live in RI) Myrtle Beach is lovely in the summer and there's tons to do there. Doing it the beginning of Sept is hard too as the kids go back to school then so we can't take the time to head out to Vegas or anywhere far for that matter at that time. I'd like to see it out this way if it is at all possible...but I guess if it's not up on the voters choices, it's not an option. :(

Im not going to read thsi whole post so I apoligize in advance if this is a repeat...but why did you split the votes orlando got? If you put Vegas in as two different dates and Orlando in for one date then Orlando would be winning in this particular instance. Granted, you can see that Vegas has more votes than the two Orlandos combined, but this is just a bad poll. Technically it might give you answers you require, but the setup leads to inaccuracy in reporting what people really want (which seems to be the point here?)

The same cities come up over and over because of the cost of holding the FF there. If they can't hold the price of the airfare (airport hubs and tourist destination=more sceduled flights/lower cost flights) and the rooms down to reasonable ammounts folks won't even try to attend. SOE could just declare it will be held in San Diego and save themselves the cost of flying their folks out and putting them up at the event hotel. I'm glad to have an option to vote.

I vote Orlando!! Don't care which dates since i can more than easily make both. I live 40 minutes away. It would be so awesome to be able to actually attend a Fan Faire after all these years of playing. Can't afford to fly to California or Vegas, already have checked flights for both of those dates and they're all over $300 already.

None of the above I guess for me. There are so many nice places other than these options. I know SoE wants only places where they think they'll get max attendance based on demographics but that still leaves places like Denver, Chicago, Los Angelos, NYC, KC, and Boston to name a few. To me Las Vegas is a hole in the ground that should never have been. It's in hospitable any time of the year and imho not family friendly enough. Guess I don't like RL gambling either. Fans would probably have more money to spend on SoE merchandise where there are no one-armed bandits.

Wish they'd do Denver or Colo Springs once. This is just silly! This is a set up for Las Vegas or San Diego to win, I think SOE would not like to spend the extra money to come to Orlando. Tell me this, Do you think the vast majority of people have plans set for one or the other Orlando dates, NO. People are just looking at the dates and choosing one or the other with no reason behind the choice at all. SOE put 2 Orlando dates in the poll so the chance would be cut in half and Orlando would not have a chance statistically to win the poll. Also by placing the Orlando dates apart, this is a smoke and mirror tactic. SOE wants to go to San Diego or Las Vegas most likely for the interest of saving money.People are smart, Smoke and mirrors don't work for everyone. I will be at the Fan Faire where ever its located.I'm a SOE fan for life, but this poll is stupid.

For those asking -- why always in the US? Because the majority of SOE's player base is still US-based, and the entire passport/customs/international travel thing is more hassle than most people want to go through. We would have to be applying *now* to be sure of having paperwork ready by summertime (if we don't want to have to pay surcharge for rush treatment). Even returning from our wonderful neighbor-to-the-Due-North requires a passport now. There was a different poll a few months after last Fan Faire, with far more options to choose from. I remember voting for a Northwest city -- I have many friends in Seattle -- and Denver was a second choice for me. (After all, SOE has an office there, too, now -- they're the ones who developed the (in)famous Legends of Norrath Collectible Card Game.) I would still offer input for *future* considerations. For gambling and nightlife on the East Coast, someone's suggestion of Atlantic City is aces. Cheap flights into Newark from many places in the US are a plus.Scheduling dates in June for Orlando obviously means the heat&humidity combination does not daunt you. In that case, for 2009, let's look at Washington DC. I spent 5 weeks there over June and July, researching my thesis. (I had a non-air-conditioned room at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA -- and yes, spent the majority of my time in the very air conditioned Library of Congress and National Archives buildings.) The museums on the mall, including the renowned Air & Space Museum and totally-worth-it-even-for-nonhistory-majors American History Museum, providegreat opportunities for extra-Fan Faire exploration. US residents can pester their Congress people, and out-of-US visitors can check out their respective embassies.....Hmmm -- has anyone in SOE ever considered a forum competition to suggest Fan Faire sites? To win consideration for their favorite, a person would have to research and present the approximate price and transportation options, as well as area advantages (such as climate, natural beauty, amusement/educational possibilities).

What is suprising me is that everyone is thinking about the cost of the hotels. The trip might be too expensive for some people but for the ones that are going, there are cheap hotels (under 70 dollars a night) in all the cities.

For San Diego, there is the Mission Valley area where there are a LOT of cheap hotels, central to everything and a bunch of attractions to boot. Plus the weather during the June dates is very nice. not to hot or cold, no hurricanes or heat waves. I know that the weather outside shouldnt matter but think about everyone else that is not attending the fanfaire will be going.

You know, the place where the VAST MAJORITY of people in this country actually live???????????Until there is one on the East Coast, within reasonable travel distance of the major metropolises, you know New York, Washington, Boston etc, alot of your customers, including myself, won't ever make it to a Fan Faire. The dates are good. Second choice would be Vegas last year was great.

You know, by splitting the Orlando dates up, you're not getting a fair picture of the people that are actually voting for Orlando. Because if someone didn't get their specific choice of Orlando date, I'm betting that they would move it to the NEXT Orlando date.....not to SAN DIEGO OR VEGAS!! We would have pretty much as many votes for Orlando right now as for Vegas if you combined the two. I can't really afford another plane flight to Vegas again, much as I enjoyed last year's Fan Faire, and I would sure love it if a Fan Faire could just POSSIBLY make it to somewhere a little nearer to my portion of the US. Can you make it any more difficult for us to get an Orlando Fan Faire?

Des Moines, Iowa.

Center of the country pretty much.

Very very nice convention center. Lots of hotels/motels within walking distance rangeingin price of 39 to 169 a night. Convention center is smack in the middle of downtown Des Moines. Lots of activities alongside the fan faire. Civic center 2 blocks from the convention center and several upcoming concernts as well, 20 miles north of Des Moines Hilton Coliseum, lots of concerts there as well. If your a party type person then you will be happy to know about court ave which is stock full of bar and grilles, sports bars, ect.

Skywalk systems throughout all of these place, so you wont freeze your collective kiesters off moving around from place to place.

I also am a bit miffed about the fact that the poll is misleading , So I did not vote for any. First sentence says time to choose a new place. Nothign new about vegas and I would prefer to keep away from the gambleing as I sadly have issues with that.

I would suggest that whomever controls the event look into Des Moines as a candidate for the Fan Faire.

Thanks

Mike Johanson

well im kinda gettting abit annouyed at the fact that everything HAS to be in america which is abit daft, why not try to accommidate your OTHER COSTUMERS by putting the faznfiar abit more central type thing, but to be honest i wouldn't think that of SoE for ALL they doo hahah.

Yea, I voted for Orlando. They got the Theme Parks, huge resorts, beaches, plenty to do around here. And that time of year is typically slow in that area, so you could realy enjoy yourself there. Vegas was just alot in a small area. Everything was there, and only there. And I pretty much did what I wanted to do in 2 days.

I am retired person so enjoying playing EQ, and I know quite a few others like me that live in Florida that because of either work schedules or other reasons could not take time off for fan faire.

I went to Vegas last year and tho it was very nice and I had a good time, I would not go back again this year. Why not some Midwest love like Austin, Dallas, Chicago, St Louis, Nashville or Denver. All of these are able to handle major convention traffic.

I agree with the folks complaining about Orlando having 2 slots in the poll ... way to skew the poll! Someone in charge over there obviously has something against Orlando! Completely unfair. The 'best' way to do this would have been with 2 polls. First determine location, then time frame/price, i.e. on the second poll say "Now that we've all selected Albuquerque, the dates and prices are:June 19 - 22 : $19 per nightJune 26 - 29 : $15 per nightSeptember 4 - 7 : $15 per nightetc."But, baring the 2 poll option, at least move Orlando into one slot or move San Diego & Las Vegas into 2! And it probably would be fairer to reset the poll again when you do it. ;-(

Have gone to the last 2 FF's. Will definately not go again if its in Vegas. Vegas is a sewer. Yeah yeah it's pretty, its shiny, but who the hell want to pay $8-$12 for a drink? I find it very convenient that the dates are only 4 months away for everywhere except Vegas which is 7.

I think you also have to take into account the SIZE of convention they have. Not every city would even have a place for them to hold this event so give them a break, only so many places have a convention place to comfortable and easily arrange this stuff. Also got to keep in mind they need enough hotel rooms for all those freaking people to stay too so finding a place with enough rooms and the convention halls/rooms, let alone internet connections in the same area isn't as easy as you would hope. Besides the people from other countries seem to make it w/out too much complaining. I just feel lucky they have it in the US so I don't have to spend 12+ hours on a plane or something.

Is there some page that would tell me what all costs I'm going to rack up with this trip? hopefully I'm planning more costs than exsist. If I have to pick I guess I pick vegas, cau se the army recently taught me that high humidity makes me pass out every few minutes. And if I couldn't take South Carolina summer, there is no chance of a concious fan fair in orlando. Apparently the brain needs oxygen without all the hydrogen in it to function.~Kirial
