Has anyone had any success in getting the Rio to lower the price for Thursday night? I just booked my room and got a huge run around and was told the 420 is the actual group rate negotiated with Sony. Funny thing is this price is no different than what you can book through their normal website. In the past Fan Faires I have attended we have also gotten a significant group discount. I don't ever remember a Fan Faire where the negotiated price of a room was over 200 bucks. Can anyone at Sony confirm the $420 bucks a night is correct?

There are hotels all around. The Rio is really really nice, but every room is a suite. Nearby walking hotel/casino's include I think the Palms and Gold Coast. Also, the Rio is only a 2 minute taxi cab to the strip, if the lights go your way.

Thanks but I am well aware of the various lodging options in Vegas. I have been going there at least once a year for over 10 years. Perhaps I should have been clearer in my post. My main questions are:

Has anyone other than MikeP had success in getting the $420 rate for Thursday night reduced?

Can anyone at Sony confirm the $420 price is correct? Because we being charged EXACTLY the same for Thursday as the general public.

You're probably getting the public rate because the block of rooms that SOE reserved has filled up. After that, anyone who asks for the SOE rate gets the regular, public rate. There have been several other posts from people who say that they couldn't get the reduced rate any more.

I have given up hassling with the Rio and cancelled my reservation using the Sony "discount". I went online to the Rio's main website and booked a room for Fri $250, Sat $250 and Sun $70. Under the Sony code I was going to pay $240 for Fri $240 for Sat and $139 for Sunday. Some discount! I have taken some of the other attendees suggestions and for the start of the week I will be staying at the Gold Coast.

But yeah, that's way out of hand considering how many people SoE is bringing to the Rio. Betcha phone calls are made. I just punched up a reservation to see, and I got Thu 08/02/2007 $420.00 Fri 08/03/2007 $240.00 Sat 08/04/2007 $240.00 $900. ow.

We reserved at the Emerald Suites nearby at less than $90/night. The block at the Rio is used up and it's $240+/night there.

I posted some info for the under 21 crowd here:

http://forums.station.sony.com/stat..._id=11500004853

It may be useful to the rest who are having trouble finding a room at a decent rate. Be warned, some people are arriving that weekend to goto the Star Trek convention that is the weekend following Fan Faire, so that is part of the problem with getting rooms at a decent rate...
