Last I heard from Ashalanne, she and her team were trying to get information on how the poll was manipulated so they could fix it. I still think an in game poll is the safest way...there is no way to make a web page 100% secure..

the issue with an ingame poll is the fact that the fan faire is no longer just EQ, it's a whole slew of games and not all those games have built in mechanisms to conduct one. In addition with the poll being on the 'fan faire' section of the community boards, it's intended to get the input of the intrested parties. Getting 50 thousand votes is all good and whatnot... but it wont truly be representitive of thsoe who will actually be attending the fan faires.

Since there is no agreement for MOL or SWG at this time they wouldn't need one.. And as for your second point you are exactly correct, The poll should only be for those with active playable accounts, that way no one who has no interest in going can maliciously skew the poll so it will be held someplace where few if any want to go...The only way to prevent that right now is in game. Getting 50 thousand votes in NOT all good, when only 2500 people are going to attend... There shouldn't even be a poll, SOE should just tell us where FF is going to be held...But if they are going to insist on trying to be "fair" then they have an obligation to make the poll as "fair" as possible for those who play the games represented at FF. Allowing anyone who has a Station ID to vote is not doing that. Anyone can create an ID and vote, anyone who USED to play can come here and vote, anyone who plays any SOE game can come here and vote....And where I can see SOEs point in trying to encourage people from those other games to attend FF as some sort of sales gimick, if it's going to alienate their player base it isn't worth it. They ought to know where their bread is buttered and concentrate on keeping those people happy. They have already turned some people off by shutting down the Fall Fan Faires... Many of us who have attended several of these things keep in contact. I personally have over 50 EMAIL addresses from people who I have met at Fan Faires and keep in touch with most of them on a fairly consistent basis, especially around times like this. Between us, we know a few hundred people who use to attend who won't go to another one because either they cannot attend the spring one for varying reasons OR they have quit playing SOE games for a variety of reasons, one of which is because their customer service has gone way down hill. I continue to play to some degree and enjoy it. Fan Faire is suppose to be a gathering of FANS....Players who enjoy meeting other players meeting the DEVS and having fun. It's not some marketing ploy intended to try to sell the game to non players...(Well OK at some level it is, but the FANs should come first...)

Please let it be Vegas. I will accept Orlando. But please don't send us to snow and cold Denver in March. I don't like skiing.

Heres the thing SoE has a conspiracy against Las Vegas. In the first vote they split vegas up into 3 categories so that it was seriously handicapped against other locations. Then on the second vote when people really came out and got involved in the community and Vegas really did win they say its Hackers. Vegas won fair and square, there was just a good turn out because people really want to go and really want to get involved. Lets all go to vegas yay !

Either way, it will still cost me $1000 even to consider to go to fan faire, regardless of where it is held, between rooms for the weekend and the travel costs alone. So needless to say, if I am going to be able to make it to ANY fan faire, I need to know now where, and what the room rates are expected to be. As it is, I don't ever expect to see one ever happen in western Canada...

Mario

Semi-/bump.

I am not upset at all but would like to know whats going on with the location. The 50% of the people that don't have to turn in requests 6 months ahead of time DO have to before the first of the year.

what i think is gonna happen is that 2007 fan faire is gonna be so special they are gonna have it in 2008 and it will be like 2 fan faire's in one!! $$$$$ besides SOE knows that if you really care about fan faire you would quit your job to go, its the logical thing to do. All jokes aside i dont expect to hear anything from them until the beginning of the year , im sure they are very busy with the holidays and stuff. Its all so mysterious, i wonder if how long they are gonna give us to make plans to go, 2-4 months like they had originally planned? probably not. Maybe we will have next fan faire for christmas 2007? Someone told me they were gonna have fan faire on a cruise ship!! lol. Honestly i dont care when it is. I just want to know WHERE it is so i know if i should even bother checking back every day if its somewhere i cant go to and im just wasting my time checking the forums every day.

every year the cruise ship idea comes up... but thats looking at like 400+ for the cruise + air fair + the legal niceties of us all trying to push Brenlo overboard... and then trading Kytherea for domestic Tequila... its a nightmare I tell you...
