<p>It's that time again SOE faithful, where we ask you to help us select the next Fan Faire city.  As many of you may recall, we had an awesome time with our friends down south in Atlanta.  The south really showcased its hospitality.  Now we are looking for another amazing location to host you, our greatest fans, for yet another great get together. </p><p>The options that we have researched based on price, weather and availability are listed below.  Please vote on your favorite choice.  We will run the polling for 30 days, after which, we will tally the results and come up with our next exciting location. </p><p>Thanks all!</p><p>Brenlo and Jenabel</p>

<p><b>Denver</b> is <i>perfect</i> for this. Summers aren't too hot, always sunny, cheaper than most of the other places on the list, central location, really cheap flights from most places & lots to do....What more could you want?<img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

None of those are close to where i live really, so i picked vegas, not only can i go to the fan faire, but i can go on the star trek rides also! So.. if you hold it in vegas, the hilton convention center would be most efficient.

Advantages of Europe: Cheap inter-european flights means you can cater to basically all of europe in one go. Disadvantages: Much more expensive lodgings etc in English speaking countries (Uk / Ireland), and any others are likley to result in more varied languages of communication. I promise I'll translate for the devs, though - English, French, Spanish, German - give Europe a chance [In the summer months]! (And hire me, /nod). Canada: Please? Someday? A Canadian Fanfaire? Anywhere... come on! [not, obviously, in the aforementioned summer months] Of the choices above, I picked Portland. It's the closest I have to Canada.

<p>Try Portland, almost always fair weather, beautiful, rose gardens, science and art centers, not to mention the Gorge with hiking, waterfalls, mountains (maybe skiing but seems possibly a bit late season), the ocean beaches. No matter what time of year, there's always something to do. Oh don't forget our tons of microbreweries and vineyards in this area for the adultish crowds. Seems like we have skating parks for the youngish crowds too.</p><p> Not sure why someone would think Portland has nothing to do. </p>

<p>I live on the east coast, fly out of boston for every fan faire, and vegas is the cheapest of ANY of those cities to get to.  You can get wicked cheap flights to vegas from anywhere in the country, more so than any other city.   Please bring it back to vegas, they're always the most fun and best ones.</p><p> It costs me a LOT more money to fly to kansas city, or orlando, or even atlanta for the last one, than it does for me to get to vegas every time.</p><p>I'd love to go to san diego or vegas, since i can only vote for one, vegas gets my vote however.</p><p> When you look at the total cost of any of of the cities to stay in, vegas is the cheapest by far.  Wicked cheap public transportation.  Enough hotells within walking distance of any others that you can stay wherever you want, and usualy i never spend more htan 40 a night to stay on the strip in vegas.  Food in vegas is dirt cheap, and with so many good all you can eat buffets, you can stuff yourself silly for pennies, and not need to eat more htan 2 times a day!.   Then if you drink at all (which the majority of people at a fan faire tend to do) vegas beats everywhere else hands down for inexpensive drinks.  About the only place with cheaper drinks in the US would probably be New Orleans, but that may not even be true anymore.</p><p> Let me speak for many many east coasters that i know and say Vegas is much much easier and more convenient than orlando or KC</p>

Come on all.... Yes I live in Vegas, but..... Flights are dirt cheap most of the time. Allegiant flies from smaller airports to Las Vegas cheaper then the other airlaines. Plus they make mad deals with the hotels because it is owened by the hotels... h<a href="http://www.allegiantair.com/?utm_source=overture&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=allegiant" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">ttp://www.allegiantair.com/?utm_sou..._term=allegiant</a> Sure they fly to Orlando, but not near as cheap as Vegas most of the time. And for the theme park thing... The whole city is a theme park. Plus the cool shows, drinks 24/7, gambling (if that is your thing), scenery, etc.... Plus no worry of rain/snow/etc for the most part. Sure there is heat, but everything has AC. You can use the Tram to get from one place to another (Yes it is 100% working now). Not to mention that walking anywhere is also not that bad. We got microbreweries. The Hard Rock Cafe , Harley Davidson Cafe, Quarks, too many buffets to mention. Plus all the restruants in the casions. Also you can find great deals on hotel rooms (being that the 28th for instance is a Thursday). Plus you usually get upgraded during the week for free (stayed 2nd floor from top in the Pyramid at the Luxor for $49 USD with mid week free upgrade). Come on, you know you want to come to Vegas.

<p>Hello All,</p><p>First let me thank all of you for your votes and opinions.  It is always a very hard choice for us when picking a Fan Faire city, because there are so many of you from all over, and it definitely helps when you vote and/or voice your opinions.</p><p>That being said, please know that we have checked virtually every city in the nation that can meet our criteria.  For those who are unaware, our criteria are as follows:</p><p>1.  Convention space that will fit at least 700 people (this is harder to find than you might think).  While there are many great destinations with beautiful hotels, many of them have little or no function space in which to hold the myriad of events that make up a Fan Faire.</p><p>2.  Hotels that will give us a decent room rate (ideally, $125 per night or less).  We search tons of cities each time, and lots of the cities that you all request simply have no availability during desirable Fan Faire dates, and if they do, they are charging an arm and a leg for room nights.</p><p>3.  Hotels that actually have availability during desirable times to have a Fan Faire (i.e., not during May, because we have E3 and can't do both events in the same month).  We generally try to shoot for Spring time (February, March, April), as that seems to be the most popular with y'all -- but that is also peak season for most desirable destinations, and so hotels are unwilling to give us bargain hotel rates, which means that the Fan Faire host hotel rooms will cost AT LEAST $200 per night, not including taxes.</p><p>4.  Destinations that are affordable to travel to and get around in (excuse the prepositions).  Places like New York City and Atlantic City have historically come back to us with sky-high room rates, not to mention that things like getting around in Manhattan, parking (if available at all), takings cabs into the city from JFK or Newark, or flying into Atlantic City and getting there, are enormously expensive and time consuming when you add it up.  Most NYC hotels also don't have the type of function space we are looking for.  Believe me, I LOVE NYC, and ALWAYS look.  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  I'd love to have a Fan Faire there and will definitely jump on it if I get the chance.  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  But generally, we look at places with big airports / hubs, that aren't too far from the venue.</p><p>5.  Destinations that are new and different from previous Fan Faires.  We have done Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, Baltimore, Seattle, Atlanta, New Orleans, San Francisco and more.  We try to be "Faire" to everybody by hopping around as much as possible while keeping things as inexpensive as possible.</p><p>When you add all of these things up, the list of potential venues gets pretty small.  We have checked places like DC, Philly, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Memphis, Reno / Tahoe, Raleigh-Durham, Omaha, Houston, Austin, Dallas, Phoenix, Miami, St. Paul, etc., etc., and none of them came back with viable offers.  The list we gave for the poll is the best of the best (and even then, you'll notice some of our criteria weren't met -- like the room rate for Orlando, or the dates for Vegas).</p><p>Also, many of you might wonder why we don't just rent space at a Convention Center and let Fan Faire attendees deal with hotel rooms on their own...  </p><p>First of all, Convention Centers require a minimum amount of people to make things exclusive, or else they will break down our space each day and force us to share with others.  We do not meet that minimum, and therefore would not have the option for things such as exclusive banquet space, Live Quest space, vendor space, etc., without having to tear down and rebuild each day.  We need to be able to take over a large amount of space exclusively for at least 72 hours.  Also, if we solely book convention space at a Convention Center, we cannot force "rent control" at surrounding hotels -- which means that, as hotel rooms sell out in the area, late-comers to Fan Faire will likely be forced into exorbitant hotel rates.  Basically any hotel in the area can charge you whatever they want.</p><p>Hopefully this helps clarify things a little.</p><p>Happy Voting!!!!  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

There are boatloads of convention centers in the Medowlands area, as well as Wayne, NJ that are accessable, and affordable.</p><p>RJG</p>

I live in Las Vegas. I have to fly my kids to see their mother for their visitation. Also to comment on Tharkis's post about folks whining about "why isn't there a East coast FF" and what not. HELLO?! Was ATLANTA NOT THE EAST COAST FF? I think so! There was a massive turn out for that one since MOSTLY the entire community came out for that since it was in the EAST COAST! They have considered it (please go back to where Jen writes about why on locations you guys keep talking about having there) Yes Portland would be nice and its 2 hours away from me, but there isn't really anything to do there and things shut down early there. Vegas is Open 24/7 and you can never be bored there and there is ALWAYS HOTEL SPACE if the hotel where FF is held at is sold out you can find another hotel close by or next door for cheap! For those of you saying Orlando is bad I say bs. If they held it here I would definitely go but will not travel all the way to Vegas to be there (I hate flying). E3 was out west as well as the block party (totally understandable since that is where Sony is located). I think most people if going to the Fan Faire in Orlando would not be also going to Disney, Universal etc as doing both would be extremely expensive and really cut down on what could be experienced at Fan Faire.

There may be plenty of EQ players in Portland, but Fan Faire is about bringing players from around the country, and the world together...Some place centralized OR a place that has easy access (AKA a tourist trap) is where they need to continue to have the FFs. last year's Atlanta FF was the first I had missed in 4 years. I didn't go because I use to live in an Atlanta community (in fact I was a police officer) and I know first hand how dangerous Atlanta can be. Thankfully it doesn't apear that there were any serious incidents. Las Vegas has hosted a few Fan Fairs and they have been wonderful. There is a lot to do in Las Vegas all year long..Some how I don't see there being much to do in Portland in the winter other than sitting in a bar somewhere discussing the future of online gaming or strats for your next raid... Orlando in March is 80 degrees. Disney and MGM are there. There are some GREAT world class resturants and a lot of things to do OUTSIDE....Please, if you are undecided and have never been to a fan faire, Las Vegas or Orlando...you won't be disappointed..

I love you people who are posting that there is no choice because your city isn't listed OR trying to write in your own city..Suck it up and vote for one on the list...there is a reason these weekends and times are chosen by SOE...You can't possibly think that this is the only convention these people have to plan to attend in a year do you? These are probably when it's convienent for THEM...and if you want to keep the cost of the Fan Faire down, i suugest you chosose Vegas for cheap plane tickets/hotel rooms OR San Diego so they can charge a lot less for the Fan Faire itself they don't have far to go so it cut's down on their expenses and they can pass that on to us right??

Can you all stop being so darn selfish? SURE Portland would be good for those who live in the NW, and San Diego would be good for those of you in Southern CA and the SW, but the airfaire to those places from MOST of the country is extreme and will be even higher by the time we need to purchase plane tickets... How about having some compasion for every one and having the Fan Faire where tourist plane fare is the least expensive...Las Vegas and Orlando have some of the least expensive travel options available so MORE people can afford to go....I live in Md so it's not like it will be close to me....but I have been to 6 Fan Faires and I can tell you, they more people attend the more fun these things are...So suck it up and give everyone a break...If you want to save money, get a bunch a guildies to split the cost of a couple hotel rooms...If 4 of you share a room it's like $30 a night...

The mid west DID host a fan faire, October, 2003. The hotel didn't allow any "outside" liquor or beer so we had to sneak it in. if you traveled more than a few blocks away you were in danger of being mugged. it rained on and off and was cold.  $30 one way for a shuttle to the hotel which took nearly an hour to get to. The only saving grace was that there were a ton of people there...Just like the TONS of people who go to the Vegas fan faires. yes it's hot in Vegas in the summer, that's why most of the hotels on the strip are interconected or VERY short outside walks from one another. Car rental is about $20 a day, parking is FREE most places and the night life is top notch...If you haven't been to Vegas, here is a REALY good excuse to go...Go for the week, stay at the Sahara for $50 a night..it's within walking distance of the convention center (if they have the Fan Faire at the LV Hilton again) OR the monorail goes right through both... Vegas or Orlando....KEEP IT SUNNY!

<p>The mono rail was up and running the last time I was out there and it was nice, went right through and into several hotels. Much cheaper than renting a car or getting shuttles was like $40 for a 3 day pass if I remember.</p><p>Monorail info, <a href="http://www.lvmonorail.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.lvmonorail.com/</a></p>

I've placed my vote for Colorado. Here in colorado we get alot Californians and Texans looking to skii and jack up the housing economy but thats about it. We don't get big bands frequently making tour and games surely don't arrive here first because we're not a coastal city. Denver seems perfect not because My friends and I live nearby but that Denver, Colorado seems like a good place for the Fan Fest. Its a new location and a new building to host the get-to-gether in and those of us who were previously unable to attend the festival because it was on an extreme (the coast line) would be more inclined to make the trip out (being as, next to kansas we're pretty close to the center.. sorta) However, Being as Colorado isn't as popular and populated as say Florda... and we've so far gotten 8% of the votes. it's doubtfull

The nice thing about portland 1. mild weather..esp the time they are shooting for 2. modest airfaire if you follow the rules of air travel 3. if you can't afford to stay at the hotel...given what I know..which means they would be holding it at the marriott Naito parkway..you can stay on ANY hotel on the max line and get back to the fan faire at 6AM for <2.00 which means you could find yourself a cheap hotel and still enjoy the faire. I don't think any of the other cities can offer you the variety, next to Vegas perhaps, that woudl happen in a Portland Fan Faire.

<p>For the 2006 Fanfaire Atlanta beat all contenders in the first ballot and still SOE put a second vote in with just Atlanta and Vegas in it to give Vegas another shot (which atlanta still won) so I don't see how you all can say SOE is plotting against Vegas. Hahaha, if anything they give Vegas special treatment. Add all the Vegas votes up and Orlando still is ahead. Popular vote has to win out. They make money (if they do make money on these events) based on turnout not on which site has the cheapest buffet lines. But don't fret Vegas fans, I'm sure after this ballot if Vegas doesn't win there will be another vote between Vegas and the leading votegetter. You'll get another shot. I voted for Orlando because I live 90 minutes away (selfish of me i know. i should have voted for vegas so you all could have your star trek drinks again) but it doesn't matter to me, where ever it is held I'll be there. Atlanta was a blast and I'm hooked on FanFaires now.</p><p>Largo Fla</p><p>Wardogs</p><p>Oasis</p>

<p>Orlando is fun, but I think once this vote is done, do a 2nd vote to narrow it down. The problem with using Denver and Kansas City is they're relatively both in the midwest. SoE has never done a midwest fan faire and it'd be fun to do so. Pick one or the other, match it up with say the top west coast vote getter, Orlando (as I assume that'll make best east coast, and do a midwest vote, then see how it turns out. </p><p> Honestly I'd make it to either Kansas City or Denver. I think Indianapolis would be a great city to host a fanfaire. Vegas has been done, and although it's a fun city to go to, it kind of takes away from the purpose of what you're there for. The majority of fanfaires have been in the west half of the US and I personally think it's time to give us on the eastern side our time. Just my 2 cp worth. I went to Atlanta and had a great time. It was my first fanfaire because it was the first time in fanfaires existence that it was at least half way close to Louisville, Ky. Anyways, Indianapolis hosts the Gaming Convention GenCon every year so it certainly has the capability to host the ever popular Everquest.

<p>While I understand that a lot of people would like it to be for example in Florida, that state is by no means central, in fact, it's about as far away as you can get for half of the United States (and also would probably attract the same people as last years, and people in the northwest would like to go too for a change!) </p><p> A place like Las Vegas is more central, and easy when it comes to accomodation and flights. That said, I do feel that it is important to have the fair in different places around the country every year. This way you allow fans that cannot afford to come as far as Atlanta, GA for example, to attend as well sometime! </p><p>For this reason, I would like to vote for Portland, OR, as it has never been there before (to my knowledge), it has a major airport, and accomodation is cheap and abundant there, and it would allow more west coast and northwest fans to go for a change!</p>

the simple fact is 90% of ppl are going to have to fly to fan faire.  And simply put Las Vegas is the city thats designed for this.  The prices are lower for flights, food, and lodging.  Lets be honest Las Vegas just has more to offer.  If im going to take what will most likely be my big vacation for the year i dont want it to be in some town like portland where i spend a few hours at the convention then go eat at some small family resturant and maybe if im brave enough go to some local bar with the townfolks in there lol.

Vegas is cool, but I would like to have it in Portland, and in a different city every year. Portland would attract a lot of people from Washington and California as well. Though it's not an option in the poll, San Francisco would be good too. Plenty of flights there, and it's a fun city. Lot more expensive than Portland though.

Tons of those -- from street peddlers hawking Prada rip-offs from China to every major US stock exchange, we got Traders. And NONE of them are gonna get nerfed. 2) Medics? Tons of those -- From Columbia Presbyterian to Mount Sinai to Beth Israel to Bellevue for hospitals, any specialist you'd ever need, down to shaman from any culture in the world, we got the cure for what ails you. 3) Spies? ROFL! Take the UN tour, you'll see your spies. 4) Officers? We got officers. We got officers of officers. We even have officers of officers of officiers. And I'm only talking about the NYPD. We got a dozen different city, county, state, multi-state and federal police forces plus the National Guard here. 5) Smugglers? You have got to be kidding me! You want spice, we got spice. You want Prada at 1/100th the price, we got yer Prada. And your Coach. And your Gucci. And your Rolex or Tag Heuer. We even got enough people "smuggled" into here to put Jabba out of business! 6) Commandos? Step into the Port Authority or Grand Central. They're only carrying side arms, but you can bet the big guns ain't that far away. And I ain't even mentioning the ones kickin' around their commando bases, playing cards or MMORPGs (remember that Playstation commercial where a bunch of noobs gets wasted in like 10 seconds and the team they're going up against is all Special Forces guys having some fun? Where do you think that was filmed, huh?). Gotta keep the real commandos off the streets -- wouldn't want to frighten the tourists. 7) Bounty Hunters? Rare, like they should be. Some real bounty hunters, too, but most are noobs who don't know their profession and are better described as vigilantes or Guardian Angels. 8) Dancers? Oooooooh, baby, have we got some dancers for alla youse. Musicians? Check the Village Voice. (<a href="http://www.villagevoice.com/nycguide/index.php?sid=6" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.villagevoice.com/nycguid...index.php?sid=6</a>)(Man, Buckwheat Zydeco is coming to town!w00t!). Image Designers? You want a hair cut? Np. You want a pink mohawk with a black, butt-length pony-tail and a spiked leather collar? Np. You want any part of your anatomy modified in any way? HEY! This is New York! No problemo. 9) Jedi. Now, this is where we get REAL Star Warzy. You never see them. They're only a rumor a best. Sure, there are some charlatans but Triumph the Insult Comic Dog has handled most of them. The best evidence out there suggest that there ARE at least two Sith Lords residing in the city, but true Jedi? If you want to find one, I'd suggest looking amongst the homeless population for someone who isn't quite what he or she seems to be. Now, how Iconically Star Warzy can you get than that? I don't know about any other SOE games, but when it comes to Star Wars, we got'cher Star Wars right here, buddy. Besides, we got other attractions too. Spamalot is still on Broadway, and you can take the Jittney out to the Hamptons for some beach time and some Star Wars of an entirely different flavor.

<p><b>I come here almost daily to see how the voting is going and it saddens me to see that people are still asking for places not offered as a choice. Please go back and read the posts from day one. You will see posts regarding other places and WHY they are not able to happen. </b></p><p><b>The organizers DO check each year for different areas and</b> <b>New</b> <b>York is one of them. Going outside the United States is too expensive for the organizers and would require such high registration fees that few could afford to attend.  This assumes they get permission to use their own equipment rather than leasing stuff there.</b></p><p><b>I like the suggestion of adding all the Vegas votes together...but when the second vote comes up I am changing to Portland for the people in that end of the U.S. (I am 75 miles from Vegas) and maybe we see more players from Canada come to the event.</b></p><p><b>This will be</b> <b>the 6th Fan Faire for my hubby and I. For us they have all been wonderful for one reason or another. The attendees do get a questionaire to fill out via email after Fan Faire. There are quite a few questions and that is your time to tell them your likes and dislikes so they can make the next Fan Faire even better. They DO like and listen to suggestions. I dont see what the big deal is, portland is actually really close to Las Vegas, why would you put fan faire on the coast, it just makes it so much farther from a lot of other ppl, way up in the corner of the country.  you need somewhere more central.  You can get some of your money back from your flight with the cheap rooms and food in vegas.  Vegas is like getting into an amusment park for free added onto your Fan Faire pass lol.

There are no real beached in Orlando, it's inland. It's a hour to the nearest real beach.. Still , Orlando would be fun..Expensive, but fun... Portland is close to Las Vegas?? I think public schol system has warped your sense of geography.. I see Denver is gaining on Orlando. Can you REALLY see Denver in March?? C'mon people use your heads for something more than a hat rack..there will be SNOW on the ground in Denver in March...LOTS of snow...Can any of you really afford to be snowed in? think SUNNY and WARM

OK, lets start looking at this from a less than selfish point of view PLEASE....the first weekend of March about half of the country is still suseptible to major winter weather events. MOST people going to Fan Faire will buy their plane tickets and make their hotel reservations several weeeks to several months in advance. The plane tickets for the most part will be unrefundable because they are CHEAP and gamers for the most part don't seem to have a lot of money. Most hotels require 24-48 hour notice of cancellation or will keep your required deposit of one nights room cost...So if there are any type of winter weather events anywhere in the northern half of the country, the people in that region may not be able to get to Fan Faire and would be out several hundred dollars... If Denver were to have a bad snow, flights could be delayed or cancelled in or worse OUT on the day people are suppose to leave to go back to their homes. The chance of this happening in a place like Las Vegas or Orlando is ZERO. Granted the Orlando dates are at time when people COULD experience bad weather at home, so maybe Las Vegas is the best choice all around.... How about checking current ticket prices to these places before you vote? Some people are going to be hard pressed to pay $500 for the plane fare, but $239 to Vegas is very doable...

<p>Ok when posters complain about no east coast options the mean <u><b><i>NORTH EAST</i></b></u>!!!!!!!!!!  ok so we had one in Boston but like 10 years ago.  Do you relize I have NEVER been to a Fan Faire because with two kids and and barely enought money to even pay for rent I have no monay for ANYTHING let only for something like that.  I mean $125 A NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  thats about as high price as I can think of.  I can not even afford to stay in the nastiest motel for $39.95 a night.  And don't even talk about plane tickets, that they charge you up the bumm for!  then food and rental cars and fees and. . .   Some of you, yeah, make 16 million dollars an hour, but what about the little people that would LOVE to go but SOE and others think only about the Beautiful People.  So can you richy rich people suck it up for once and work with the poor!</p><p> /rant off</p><p>Have a nice day!</p>

<p>Muuly, I think the price next to the location and date are the Price to get into the fan faire, not the price of the hotel room... at least thats what i think.  Also no mattter where it is, you can always find a friend or a guild member to split a room with or bunk up at a house.  Just my experiance.</p><p>Roxxx the Drunk Rebel</p>

Ashlanne has stated that the price next to the location is the price of the hotel room per night.

Personally, I would rather see it held somewhere it hasn't been held yet.  Vegas is nice and all, but they've already held 4 events there. Los Angeles: Oct, 1999 (first official EQ Gathering) Las Vegas: Nov, 2000 (Launch of Scars of Velious) Baltimore: Feb, 2001 San Diego: Apr, 2001 Minneapolis: Jun, 2001 Orlando: Oct, 2001 Dallas: Jan, 2002 Seattle: Apr, 2002 Boston: Aug, 2002 San Francisco: Nov, 2002 Las Vegas: Spring, 2003 Chicago: Fall, 2003 Las Vegas: Apr 2004 (5th year Anniversary) New Orleans: Oct 2004 Las Vegas: June, 2005 Let's have it in Portland, OR.
