We were initially planning a big PvP tournament, but have decided instead to make it a PvE skill tournament. In Live Update #21, the version of Nest of the Great Egg that this will be taking place in has been added to the world. You can access it near the entrances to the Arenas in Freeport and Qeynos. Details below:

*** Fan Faire ***

- Players who attend Fan Faire and have the opportunity to participate in the tournament will be competing in an alternate version of Nest of the Great Egg.
- The team who defeats the Chamberlain and interacts with the egg first wins!
- You can access this zone in West Freeport and Qeynos Harbor near the entrances to the Arenas.
- This zone scales for players level 20 and up, so get practicing to reign supreme at Fan Faire!

On a side note, I grew up both in Virginia and Colorado (technically, I spent 16 years in southern Virginia so I'm more from there than Colorado). Every time my hockey team traveled to locations within the southern US, we found a nearby Waffle House to hit up after the game. It was a great tradition, and tasted oh so good after a rough couple hours of hockey. I think I'll have to body check a few people then head over to get some waffles while at Fan Faire.

Message Edited by Ashlanne on 03-24-2006 05:58 PM

Message Edited by Ashlanne on 03-24-2006 05:58 PM

So will this zone be limited to just fanfaire participants or will we be able to log in from Atlanta and gather a guild group to help?

Don't know for sure how they're going to do this one, but at the Las Vegas FF, it was a special server. No regular players were there. I can't imagine that they'd run it on a regular server, though. Too much potential for interference.

The format of that tournament at Las Vegas was quite different, but it was still a blast. We were in teams made up entirely of gnome wizards and were given two special nukes that could be cast while running. We had the run of Everfrost and the goal was to get the most exp during about a 15 minute period. The key was to avoid dying, since the exp debt really hurt your chances of winning. The challenge was to find a spot with lots of mobs, since we had so many people running around that we kinda depopulated the zone pretty quickly. All in all, it was great fun, though I didn't win. :smileysad: Still, a great time was had by all.

The two issues.

1. I broke it first. When creating the accounts they made all the mage (priest, fighter, etc) classes, put them all in one account...and copied it. So you had 10 accounts with all the mages in it...all the same. Every one with a Qeynos High Elf Wizard & Freeport Erudite Warlock. Turns out they made the accounts while that server was still PvP. When they shut it off, it was still flagged for those accounts. SO...the first three teams, two of them were guild groups (same city/alignment), and mine..which was a pick up group for the tourney. Started the mission...no one can heal me...nor can they hit me...but I was able to nuke the heck out of them (i played the warlock). Nor could they fix my faction enough to fix the issue.

2. FoH had a guy who got the key for the elevator, and in a daring move pulled everything in front of him to the elevator down the elevator, and I assume he was gonna feign at the bottom and come back up to get his team....well that didn't work...he died at the bottom, With the key...so no one could take the elevator down to revive him. As well as at the end of the mssion...same said person could not interact with the egg, after the Mission Boss was killed.

Seemed a Clusterf*%kitude from the get go....

(Everyone that's ever done this zone to any extent knows that this = failure...and it's kinda why they have two mobs in the zone that drop the key. There's a known and widely-used strat for the lift, and they wiped because of poor planning and miscommunication.) Then, they asked for -and received- a reset on their zone timer and were allowed to try again from the beginning....this time they learned from their previous mistakes and pulled off their strat flawlessly.

I'm quite glad that there was a 'technical difficulty' to fall back on because the insanity of the decision to allow them a second attempt at the zone after an obvious screw up on FoH's fault would have resulted in all hell being raised if they would have ended up winning with their final time after getting an extra opportunity.

(My guild was scheduled to compete in the round after the one FoH was in...and it's the only reason why all of us were up that early after drinking all night/morning. We were there and saw the whole thing.)

Due to technical whining.... the contest was cancelled. As absurd as it may sound... someone screwed up in the event (cough... FoH... cough) and requested to start over after they died. If it had been in regular game and they had done it... oh well... do not pass go, do not collect $200.00.... start back over and you lose anyways.

Overall though.... very disappointed that the contest didn't go through.

Yes, indeed so lame. We were scheduled to go shortly after the pick up group. We had two guild groups going in (separately)and we were pumped and ready to go. We were all so very disappointed that it was cancled and for such a poor poor reason. Totally, sucked.I've never been one to bash Sony but this was the most unorganized, poorly run event I've ever seen. I really could not believe it. I will not be attending another one that's for sure. BIG waste of money.

There were a number of reasons that we had to cancel this event, which we didn't do lightly given how much work we had to put into it in the first place and how much fun it could have been for all involved. I wanted to comment on here briefly that FoH did not get special treatment. They were unable to finish the event due to a bug, and we let them restart just as we would have let anyone else that encountered it. For what it's worth, they were doing better time-wise the first try than the second. We're going to make sure to do what we can to make the next tournament work properly, and hopefully we can get you the PvP tournament that everyone has been asking for next time. It does suck that we had to put a stop to the tournament, but there were too many glitches for it to remain a fair competition.

Well, live and learn. I had a blast and actually got to play the zone before it was cancelled. It was a bummer but I know that lots was learned and next years will be even more fun. It was unorganized but give them a break, this was the first time they tried it.

The danger of getting the lift stuck at the top has been a known quantity ever since the beta. It's standard procedure to send the lift down immediately once you exit the lift on the top floor...to avoid failing the zone. This dynamic of the zone has been documented on numerous occaisions in fansite walkthroughs, and a failure to heed the warnings (+ a wipe up top) equals a failure.

Also keep in mind that there are -2- mobs on the way to the lift that can drop lift keys...and only one was retrieved in a risky maneuver to save time.

What is the timeframe to 'fix' the instance, and what will the 'fix' be?

Thanks!

PS - If we run into the lift issue in the nest again, has the CS staff been instructed to remove our lockout timers from the zone?

Message Edited by Straylight on 04-12-200601:44 PM

btw just to be really clear...

my wife decided to play the game, not because of some honcho graphics she saw in a high level zone, rather the high level of community she experienced from the staff and players at the faire...not that the game isn't cool lol, but i think thats what has attracted her, the close knit community and good personal vibes...and i tell you, at this faire, this was flawless.
