<DIV>For those who are planning to attend the Fan Faire in Atlanta, here are some places of interest.  Note, not all of these are within walking distance of the Atlanta Marquis Marriott but bus, subway and taxis are readily available.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Food:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.fatmattsribshack.com/" target=_blank>Fat Matt's Rib Shack</A>  Best barbequed ribs on the planet.  Period.  Worth the trip to Atlanta just for these!  If you do nothing else in Atlanta, have at least a taste of these ribs... it is a religious experience.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.fuegocafe.com/" target=_blank>Fuego Cafe'</A>  Tapas and music.  Great place on Crescent Avenue near the corner of 14th st and Peachtree St.  (Ask a local how to get that intersection.  If they can't tell you, they are not a local.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.fogodechao.com/" target=_blank>Fogo de Chao</A>  Brazilian barbeque.  Bring a healthy appetite.  Kinda expensive but the food is amazing and they bring it to you until you beg them to stop.  Near the Buckhead area north of mid-town.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.sundialrestaurant.com/" target=_blank>Sun Dial Restaurant Bar & View</A>  If you want to impress your woman/man, this is the place to do it.  It is on top of the Westin Peachtree Plaza and it offers the most spectacular view available of the city.  The restaurant rotates as you eat dinner.  Live jazz music accompanies your meal.  The food is amazing and the waitstaff are great.  This is THE place for a romantic dinner.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.thevortexbarandgrill.com/TheVortex/index.htm" target=_blank>Vortex Bar and Grill</A>  Good food, odd atmosphere, great t-shirts.  Before going there, check out the policies section on their website.  It is worth a read.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hard Rock Cafe  I mention this one basically for those that just have to have the t-shirt.  Yes, we do have one of these.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Clubs:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.eleven50.com/index2.html" target=_blank>1150</A>  This is directly across from Fuego Cafe'.  The building was originally a movie theatre years ago and was converted into a very classy and very trendy club.  Check out their site to see if it is somthing you would like before going.  They do have a cover charge.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.compoundatl.com/" target=_blank>Compound</A>  Very very stylish place.  I haven't actually been to this place but I have heard that it is very nice.  Check out the website for details.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://161.58.161.122/indexpb2.asp" target=_blank>The Masquerade</A>  The link I provided is to an IP address and may or may not work in the future.  Their regular website is not working properly.  <A href="http://www.masq.com/" target=_blank>http://www.masq.com</A>.  This club features thee levels they call Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.   Each level has it's own theme and often it's own performers.  Since they host major attractions, you should check their calendar and Ticketmaster for events scheduled for Fan Faire weekend.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://tongueandgrooveonline.com/" target=_blank>Tongue & Groove</A>  Upscale and classy place.  Again, not a place I have actually been to but I have heard it is very nice.  It is located in the Buckhead area and it is surrounded by bars and restaraunts.  If you don't like the atmosphere, check out one of the other places there.  If you can't find a place to have fun in Buckhead, you aren't trying.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://stationforums.station.sony.com/communitysoe/board/www.Loca-Luna.com" target=_blank>Loca Luna</A>  Meatmarket.  Beutiful people everywhere.  The food is good too.  They frequently have live music.  Check their schedule.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.blindwilliesblues.com/" target=_blank>Blind Wilile's</A>  Blues bar.  It's not the prettiest place in the city but it has the best blues you can find.  That is, if you can find it.  Don't hesitate to ask for directions.  It is well worth the effort to find.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.shakespearetavern.com/" target=_blank>Shakespear Tavern</A>  Dinner theatre.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For our [Removed for Content] friends, you may want to check out <A href="http://www.hereticatlanta.com/" target=_blank>The Heretic</A> on Cheshire Bridge rd.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Visitors to Atlanta should be aware that the majority of clubs on / near Cheshire Bridge road are, in fact, strip clubs.  That's great if you are lookin for that kind of thing.  If you aren't you might want to avoid the area.  Since I mentioned strip clubs, I have to mention The <A href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clermont_Lounge" target=_blank>Clermont Lounge</A>.  It has to be the strangest place in atlanta.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Attractions:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.sixflags.com/index.asp" target=_blank>Six Flags</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.sixflags.com/parks/whitewater/index.asp" target=_blank>White Water</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.woccatlanta.com/" target=_blank>World of Coca Cola</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://fsc.fernbank.edu/" target=_blank>Fernbank Science Center</A> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.high.org/index_flash.html" target=_blank>High Museum of Art</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.zooatlanta.org/" target=_blank>Zoo Atlanta</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.thekingcenter.org/" target=_blank>The King Center</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.cartercenter.org/default.asp?bFlash=True" target=_blank>The Carter Center</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.stonemountainpark.com/" target=_blank>Stone Mountain Park</A>  A word of caution here.  For those that may find offense, there is a huge carving of a Confederate general on the side of this mountain.  I do not defend or decry this statuary but it is something that some of our visitors would want to know when they are making their plans.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I recommend visitors avoid <A href="http://www.underground-atlanta.com/" target=_blank>Underground Atlanta</A>.  It is basically a mall built into a subway tunnel / railway station.  It is pretty and they have nice things and all but it isn't worth the time to visit and it is a fairly high crime area.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As a final note, I do not work for the Tourism board.  I am just an EQ player who thought that he would share some of the things he knows about the city he lives in.</DIV><p>Message Edited by Braenen on <span class=date_text>09-05-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:27 PM</span>

I would agree that Atlanta Underground (http://www.underground-atlanta.com/) has changed a lot. It is quite safe and there are many things to do there, including the new clubs they added, most notably:Future Atlantahttp://www.futureatlanta.com/Masquerade is in the process of closing and doubtful it will be around come April 2006.There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel as well:Mick's (great burgers)Mama Ninfa's (mexican)Hard Rock Cafeto name a few...I think it will be a great Fan Faire with tons of things to do.

<P>I would say that this is not set in stone but it is the current working plan according to <A href="http://stationforums.station.sony.com/communitysoe/board/message?board.id=FanFaire&message.id=641#M641" target=_blank>Brenlo</A>.</P> <BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr> <P> </P> <P><FONT size=1>So the people have spoken and let us know that Atlanta is the place to be for the next Fan Faire and we are excited at the chance to visit that marvelous city (last time I was there was on my way to Basic Training at Ft. Benning.)  So the good news is . . . The next Fan Faire will most likely be in Atlanta.  I do have some bad news though, it will most likely be in April.  After the first polls ran we looked at timing and all the other things that go into planning an event such as this, including Dev team availability, and came to the conclusion that April is a much better time frame for us to provide a top notch Fan Faire for you.</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=1>So good news is Atlanta, Bad news is April.</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=1>Here is the time frame and hotel we are looking at, please remember that until a contract is signed, this is all tentative;</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=1>April 6 - 9, 2006</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=1>Atlanta Marquis Marriott, $125 / night</FONT></P> <DIV><FONT size=1>Thanks folks,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2><FONT size=1></FONT></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2><FONT size=1>Brenlo Bixiebopper<BR>Director, Global Community Relations<BR><BR>---------------------------------------------<BR>It's a rough life but someone has to live it.</FONT> </FONT></DIV> <P><BR> </P></BLOCKQUOTE> <P>It is definately too soon to start making plans.  I created this post to give those that are thinking of attending a few ideas of what Atlanta has to offer.  Please feel free to post any information about local attractions, bars, favoirite restaurants, ect.  I think Atlanta is a great city to live in (or at least near) and we should share that with our visitors.</P>

Air fare to atlanta is expensive even from boston =D  Depending on how gas is, i may take an extended vacation and make a road trip of it, i've never driven that far south before.

I just got an email from my travel department, saying that conventions scheduled for New Orleans for the next 18 months have been relocated to cities in the Midwest and Southeast, and that anyone planning to attend those conferences needs to make hotel arrangements NOW in order to get a room.  Hotels in some cities are already booked solid for some dates.  I'm sure Atlanta is going to get its share of these conventions, so it's even more important to get next Fan Faire's dates finalized now, so we can get our room reservations in.

atlanta braves will be "on the road" playing in San francisco, so alternate hotel rooms and inexpensive travel arrangements should be plentiful and easter falls on April 16 (busy airline travel period and higher rates). April 6-9 is a great set of dates I cannot wait! when will registration info be available on the fanfaire section of "everquest live"???

<div></div><p>I wouldn't recommend the Georgia Aquarium.  First off, it's almost always booked solid, and second, you'll have to wait hours in line to get in. </p><p>As an aside, there are cheaper hotels and motels than in the city center.  Living in Atlanta, I'd recommend the northern side, as it's much safer.  Just make sure the place you'd like to book is close to a MARTA line.  If you want to rent a car, you can easily drive and park at one of the stations.  It's about a 15-minute ride on MARTA down to Peachtree Center (the station to get off for the Mariott) and would save you lots of money.  But if you get drunk, you may not want to ride MARTA too late at night. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  As with any public transit, always be aware of your surroundings, especially in the evenings.</p><p>If you need any help with Atlanta, post here and let me know.  I work downtown and am very familiar with the area the convention will be held at.</p>

<div></div><p>Hi folks.  Welcome to the great city of Atlanta and I hope you have a good time at the Fan Faire.  I've lived here in the city for almost 5 years and I just love it!  Atlanta has much to offer in the way of entertainment, so if you get some free time, check out some of the locations that were mentioned previously and you're sure to have some fun.</p><p>Particular areas that you will want to consider checking out are:</p><p>Midtown:  Closest to downtown and you'll find plenty of fine restaurants (Front Page News, etc) and great dance clubs.  A little more dressy than the other areas.  Also Piedmont Park is nearby if you want to get out and stretch your legs a bit during the day.</p><p>Buckhead:  Did I miss someone mentioning this previously?  It's the Bourbon Street of Atlanta and if you're young and looking for serious action, this may be your place.  Lots of smaller dance clubs, pubs, restauraunts.  Take a cab from the hotel for about a 15 minute ride depending on the traffic.</p><p>Little Five Points:  From my experience in playing EQ and hanging at FanFaires, most folks I've met might like this area.  There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and psychodelic paintings to keep even the most sober of us intrigued.  If they have a dance club in the area, I've never met it.  I've often thought of it as "Hell's Angels meets Hippies".  I've had some good times here.  Check out the BrewPub for a decent selection of beerz.  Variety Playhouse may have a band playing.  Vortex has great burgers.  Cab it about 15 minutes.</p><p>Virginia Highlands:  My favorite place to hang in Atlanta.  Mostly a pub scene with some live music scattered here and there.  Limerick's Junction has live Irish music,  Blind Willie's has live Blues, and some-named basement bar under the Dark Horse used to play live Rock, but I'm not sure that it's still open.  There is also Taco Mac, Atkin's Park, Fontaine's, the Highland Tape, Moe's and Joes, and a whole lot more.  I'm in my upper 30's and this is where I like to go out at.  The "highlands" are kinda spread out, but if you land at Blind Willie's you're in a good concentration of variety.  Most of it cranks up around happy hour plus 2. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  Take a cab.</p><p>Underground:  It's closest to the hotel, but I still haven't built my confidence back up in this area to recommend it.  Several years back, all I could remember was seeing a lot of gang-bangers hanging out here, but just last weekend my friend and I visited and had a good time.  It's coming back around, but it's been a while since I felt comfortable here.  During the day I can vouch for it being quite safe as I went through it to get to the Braves shuttle several times.</p><p>Trust me on the cab thing.  If you're visiting here, it's really the best way to get around and about all cabbies I've ridden with know where in the heck they're going.  It may cost you a few bucks to get from the hotel to these sites, but it's sure better than trying to park a rental car and dealing with having a designated driver if everyone wants to drink.  The public transportation is also good, but if you're going to be staying out a while, I believe they stop running around 1:00am or so.  Also you'd have to scope out your route and check the times.</p><p>Hope this helps.  Ask more questions if you're curious.</p><p>Roadenfel, retired EQ1 player from Bertoxxulous getting back into EQ2 again.</p><p> </p>

<div></div><p>Roady,</p><p>You are gonna be my personal guide. If Atlanta is still standing when we get done, we didn't loot and pillage nearly well enough! =P</p><p>I'm coming for the Nascar race Mar 19th, maybe do a lil scouting mission ahead of time. Then maybe I won't have to use auto-follow the entire weekend, rofl</p><p> </p><p>Warrbuxx (mike)</p>

<div></div><p>Yeah Warr... we gonna have a good ole time in the city today, bro.  Too bad the Fan Faire isn't happening today since there's gonna be so much activity going on in Atlanta.  I hear they're predicting close to 200K folks are gonna be slamming back beerz today in the city.  Cool... I can't wait to get out in the middle of it.</p><p>For the rest of yahs... I've posted some maps of Atlanta at my Yahoo Photos site, so you may want to check them out for an idea of how to get from place to place in the city (<a href="http://photos.yahoo.com/roadnfish" target="_blank">http://photos.yahoo.com/roadnfish</a>)  Check em out and give me some feedback.  Don't blame me if you get lost, <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  I've just tried to highlight some of the hotspots in town and encourage you to visit them if you have the time to break away from the fanfaire.</p><p>Oh... if someone else wants to chime in on the places to go in Midtown, please do.  I haven't really ventured that much in that part of the city, so any help will be greatly appreciate.</p><p>If you want to navigate yourownself... go to <a href="http://www.itsmarta.com" target="_blank">http://www.itsmarta.com</a> </p><p>Roady</p>

<div></div><div>You might want to consider taking MARTA.  Most stations away from downtown have free parking, and some have paid overnight parking.  If you choose to take MARTA, arrive at MARTA at least 30 minutes early so that you can ensure that you'll get there in time.</div>

<div>Yeah I have done MARTA in the past... but I honestly don't like the being limited to when I have to leave <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  just me... I used to live there and stuff and I enjoy driving <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div>

<div>Well the events at the hotel are only until like 10pm right?  Humm maybe I will consider MARTA... Just called the hotel and parking is $22 a day for cars.  Humm.. so spending $66 just in parking is kind of insane... Unless SOE has some sort of discount... where as MARTA is what $1.75 1 way... so what... $3.50 a day... hummm </div>

<div>Yeah I know MARTA's not the best, and I hate having to choose it as the best option to get to and from work, but unless you want to shill out a lot for parking, most parking downtown's not going to be safe after 1:00 a.m. (when MARTA stops running).  You could always take MARTA and have your aunt or a friend pick you up, as hotels aren't an option with you staying at your aunt's house.  Or you could make friends with locals who could ferry you. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div>

<div></div><p>Ohh I will probably do MARTA on Thursday & Friday... until 10pm on Friday and then go get car and drive to the off-site party... then pay the parking fee on Saturday for the late night part <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p> </p><p>Yeah I remember taking MARTA daily to work.  used to work downtown at the Board of Regents.  Parked at the 400 marta station whatever it is called.  It seemed pretty safe up there <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

<div></div>Cyanbane, Rotacidare and I will all be at fan Faire.  We are the host from eq2-daily.com.  We all live in Atlanta and know the area well.  I would like to suggest if you want to go to the aquarium you go to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.georgiaaquarium.com">www.georgiaaquarium.com</a> and reserve a time for next week.  You will have to wait in line for a long time.  You will not be able to buy tickets just walking up on the day you want to go.  There are still times available Wed-Sun of next week.  If you want any area information just let me know.  I have lived in Atlanta suburbs for 26 years.  Email me at <a target="_blank" href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a>.
