What files do I need

<p>What files do I need to backup in case I ever have to reinstall Windows or get a new computer if I want to keep my ui settings, character appearances and custom settings. I'm on the Steam client if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance.</p>

<p>for UI, broker history, mail and recipe filters find the files "Permafrost_[charater]_eq2_uisettings.xml" "Permafrost_[charater]_eq2_storelog.txt", "permafrost_[charater]_mail.dat" and "eq2_recipe_filter.vdl"</p><p>If you need to reinstall windows and your steam directory isn't on the main drive goto your steam folder rename steamapps to steamapps2 run steam installer when it completes start steam, login it will download your profile information including the list of games you own. close steam delete the new steamapps folder and rename steamapps2 back to steamapps.</p><p>run steam and all your games will be there including all your custimizations.</p><p>If you get a new computer try to get one which uses the same interfacing system (or get an adapter) for the hard drives of your current computer.</p><p>You can take out the drive steam is stored on from your old computer and put it in your new computer. do a clean install of steam on your new computer then copy and replace the new steam folder with the one from your older hard drive and you are set.</p><p>EQ2 doesn't use registry keys so you can just transplant a hard drive with the non-steam client with all settings and data intact.</p>
