The team is spending a lot of time ensuring that you experience the story, rather than merely read it, so I won’t give it all away in this letter. As for features and details, we’ve got a lot to crow about. We hope players enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed weaving it together.

Cross Over to More Content

In two re-imagined Ethernere overlands inspired by Feerrott and Loping Plains, players will find a region in chaos. The natural ebb and flow of spirits passing through the Ethernere to each spirit’s final resting place is corrupted and on the edge of destruction, threatening every mortal’s life and afterlife. Through the trials of nine new instanced dungeons, players will attempt to mend the end of all things. Prelude content and dungeons give insights into the threat from the other side while telling all new stories - including advancing the story behind the Ages End Prophecy. Players meet new creatures from the beyond and face a whole host of new challenges.

Lots of Quests! Was curious about the overland zones. It wasnt clear to me whether feerrot was getting revamped, or if it was getting a sister zone. expanding feerrot by giving it a deeper jungle overland sister zone would be great. I am not a fan of revamping(replacing) old content. Also the organic adornments: i see it as very risky and prone to disaster. The details of how they function will make or break it. my concerns are a new "unholy grind treadmill", and "end to sharing war runes with my alt army". dov was very good to me, i got a lot of great war runes early and my alts got a lot of use out of them. making each toon level up their own adornments will basically kill my desire to play alts. imo organic adornments should increase the base item template for that toon (not just the adorn you currently have equipped). organic adornments should not increase much, not be a big grind, and have a low cap on leveling up. leveled up adornments should be tradeable to alts in their leveled up state. Other than that this press release looks amazing. ofc we would love even more details, but this was a lot. Sounds like an expac with a lot of features you wont want to miss.

Why raise crafting? To make new spells? The 92 gear is/was useless from the start, quested items are better. Mobs need to drop components to make the item, not a chest plate or sword, but the mat. This gets adventurers and crafters working together more, like an MMO.

My biggest question is, are all the mobs going to kick/toss/throw/shoot everyone across the screen/in the air, or are you guys gonna try to do something new?

I hate to say it - but... 'meh'.

Two overland zones that are likely (not replacing the current) alternate versions of the existing ones with a new color palette and mobs. And Ferrott being one of my LEAST favorite zones for travel in the entire game? Meh.

Three new levels that will take 15 levels worth of previous tiered experience to accomplish (see 90-92) so that I can get upgrades to spells like I normally would at those tiers with minor power boosts? Meh.

Tradeskills - see above.

I do like new instances - but we are likely looking at three groups of three zones (possibly scaled) like you have with the previous blocks of Miragul, CL zones, etc. Nothing overly revolutionary there.

Mention of 'events' that raiders can participate in but nothing regarding raid zones themselves ... that is worrisome even though I'm not a hard-core raider. Meh.

There isn't a single element that jumps out at me as I must have and I play ALL types of content - I enjoy solo'ing, grouping with friends and raid twice a week. I'll buy the expansion because my friends still play and they seem more excited about it than I am - and I like them anyway. But if it were just me playing, mostly solo, this would be a pass.

With all of that said - I thought the 'game changing' announcement from Smed was today and the Producer Letter was tomorrow based on the time line I read. I'm *really* hoping this isn't the game changing message because, simply, it isn't.

Ok so 9 new Dungeons and Raid "events" does this mean that we aren't getting any new raid zones and just getting events? If these "events" are anything like Ringwar or the dragon spire/ring events you're going to have a lot of disappointed raiders.

This is one of the most underwhelming updates I have seen in a while.
I would love to be able to do the whole storylines with any of my toons, be they raider or non.

I've yet to start or finish any of them, because they always go into heroic (which is understandable) and end in raid zones.

I remember an idea brought to attention in a FanFaire about two years back: set up a raidzone aftermath, where a rumour of fighting with X named has been whispered about and since the adventurer is known by the Powers That Be in either city due to their exploits, they're summoned and sent out to check things.

This would be a great idea, imho. A way for everyone to experience the storyline, from non-adventurer to raider.

Yknow, after reading this, I realized that the Devs really do not play their own game. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the new content coming and I am excited to see the avatars ( Hope it will be instanced, certain "groups" having it perma locked is not what people would like). The reason I say that all devs play a level 33 toon is simply because of the level increase to level 95. Remember how with Skyshrine added, there was alot of new gear, easy to get stuff that really made all of the old raid/heroic stuff obsolete, there was not enough content in Skyshrine to make Drunder HM obsolete etc and as a result, you guys had to tweak it to be in line with Skyshrine. With the raise to level 95, all of the older "raid zones" especially Drunder HM + PoW ( mechanics aside) just became THAT much easier. Now, if you guys added a BUNCH of content with this new expac to afford to make all this stuff worthless, I understand. We all know that this expac will NOT have enough content to hold people at 95. All zones, including Skyshrine ( x4 that can ALREADY be done with 2 groups) will become EXTREMELY facerollable. It seems like SoE is just trying to attract players with the "Oh look, level 95" and they are not thinking of what will happen with content and general balance. So basically, once again, just like with skyshrine there will be no challenging content and the old challenging stuff like PoW/some encounters in Drunder HM are going to become pointless. I know that 3 levels wont let players suddenly kill Teku if they were not able to get past Berik but, there just will not be enough content for us to play in at 95. Stop adding levels without considering game balance. You guys did this with Skyshrine (and it was soooo easy even at 92) and are doing it again. The few people that level 95 attracts will not outweigh the good majority of players that will just say "I'm done". Personally, I feel another Skyshrine fail incoming and if this anything like Skyshrine, I will just have to hang up my hat. I am not the only person that feels this way about this. Sorry but, you say challenging raid zones and bring us UDx4 and Sevelak x4, if this expac is anything like that, alot of the players will just quit as soon as they are done with the new facerollable content. Devs - Please balance content the RIGHT way. Just because it sounds cool to raise the level cap doesn't mean it is going to be a good idea. Please do NOT give us another "smashurfaceonthekeyboardandwin" expansion like Skyshrine. Do something, I don't want to be stuck doing the same content over and over and over a month after release. TL;DR- Raising level cap to 95 is not thinking too hard about game mechanics and it WILL mess up current progression. Not enough content to raise level cap for.

With all due respect I'm sensing another skyshrine content fail...unless of course they actually unroll a multitude of new raid zones with you know more than 3 names (sevlak awakened for example) since the level cap raise (which past history has been every 2 expacs) now it seems is every 1 expac (I'm using the microxpac of aod and the rest of content from dov (skyshrine) as a basis)). Raising the level to 95 as far as raiding goes is essentially gonna nuke even pow to an empty zone. I hope these concerns as well as the long overdue routinely promised mechanics/class/gear fixes come out prior to this...otherwise you will lose more customers that bring in...I for one am close to ending seven years in this game for the never ending concentration on fluff over the meat of the game we have had last several years.

Excellent... Just watch, I bet the new heroic group gear is going to be on par with Skyshrine/Drunder HM raid stats, and the new raid stuff (if we get any) will be 220 or 250 range of stats (at least). Either it will be really easy like most of Skyshrine, or SOE will take the fact that players said Skyshrine was to easy, and make new raid stuff twice as hard and ridiculous as PoW with 5x more DT's, 5x more AoE's, instant AoE 100% power drain every 10 seconds, a raid wide elemental DoT where only 6 people need to be cured within 2 seconds or a wipe, mobs with triple/quadruple cast, and who knows what else. See above - but I think they even publically stated that all levels post 90 were going to be these massive experience holes. I know when the new levels were added last time that they eventually up'd the exp. on the new overland mobs claiming they were pushed too low, but even after that it was a nightmare to level in there. As above, you should be able to follow the quest lines to completion, run the dungeons and get max level WITHOUT grinding in other zones. I am not holding my breath on this.

3. Dunno about this one - my server (Unrest) seems to be populated just fine.

My major issue is the new enhanced focus of redundancy and grinding. I know that is the nature of MMO's to a degree but that doesn't make it right and make it even MORE required to hit level cap is going to turn off a lot of people. I don't want to kill 15 levels worth of content for three toon levels and a few Prestige points (Prestige just being AA's really - on a new page and called something else).

I'm .... underwhelmed ... as I stated earlier in the thread. I'll get the expac because I enjoy the people I play with and I enjoy have invested SO much time in SOE games over the years but it a sad corner to turn from being excited about a new Expac coming out to logging on just to make my friends happy.

I have stopped and dropped to FTP, not logging in as I can't get groups for the required (?) access quests (still stuck on the first line, maybe 5th quest in for Skyshrine). I have general boredom with such a narrow content stream. With Vanguard and World of Tanks FTP, Planetside 2 beta, along with my current Eve Online sub, I am ok for now somewhat.

Of course not, but I wouldn't expect them to be, in EQ2 or EQ1. You are guessing at their intent when they say 9 new zones that it isn't really - where I'm leaning towards them being 9 new zones based on past experience with their expansions. We are getting two re-done zones and some instances. Not exactly Norrath-shaking expansion.

The spell system in EQ2 hasn't seen any real new spell additions for a LONG time. A change in level cap used to mean that they would throw in a few token truly new spells to the line up. That doesn't happen anymore. Leveling up in EQ2 simply means that you get the same spell you already have with the name of it incremented by 1 and MAYBE a 10% increase in power. They decided that 'new' spells are abilities from Prestige options while now deciding to ignore the AA trees altogether. EQ1 implements a system and continues to use it (thus their thousands of AA options) AND adds new systems on top. EQ2 simply gets tired of the old system and stops supporting it in favor of the same thing in a new tab.

I love EQ2 - I've been playing it since Beta and clearly I'm still around. Unlike a lot of people around here I have NEVER taken a break, or stopped playing for a few months.... I have literally had an active, played account since Beta. So believe me that I don't take any great joy in bashing on things around here as I want it to be great! It simply...isn't. And I feel that it is an obligation to point out when things aren't going south (imo) and hope that enough people agree to help indicate that we deserve and want more than another coat of paint on the same old.

(three instances and a raid)

just like in PoP. Bastion of Thunder, Crypt of Decay, Halls of Valor...in EQ2 we'd call those raid instances. in EQ1 they are just 2 more zones.

I played EQ1 for a LONG time - I'm well aware of how it works. And I even started my post by acknowledging the differences in the games BUT that doesn't change the fact that, from all appearances, they are getting A LOT more bang for their buck. Are all of those things going to be game changers?

Would like to point out that EQ1 has changed a considerable amount since the PoP-LoY-LDoN-GoD-OoW days. So the way aa's are used has changed a considerable amount since then.

But yeah, I agree. I am quite jealous of how EQ1 gets so much content. Yes I know EQ1 is a completely different game and that the overland zones aren't as indepth or packed jam with quests and mobs at every inch, but nontheless they explore new lands, get constant updates for classic overlands, list goes on.

It also doesn't help that the EQ1 developers constantly communicate with their community 100 fold compared to EQ2's....maybe this Smedleys way of saying to go back to EQ1 and drop EQ2.

Edit: Rainmare you're wrong on that part. Take a look at Viel Of Alaris's features:

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...-133886008.html

Now take a look of the amount of end results for zones:

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...=Veil+of+Alaris

Viel of Alaris's map:

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/gal...maps/alaris.jpg

All 3 are components to the Ages End prophecy (Aetok/Enoxus rune circle). With the return of Drinal for this one, we may also see the ethernauts (9 new instance zones and 9 ethernauts, might just be a coincidence.) Probably a safe guess that Obol (lobo backwards, spanish for wolf) will relate to both drinal's disappearance and the werewolves as he's part of the reason they morph at night. As for the september raid zone, the sleeper's tomb is direct canon for the story line, finally making it to Kerafyrm's lair. And while maybe not in this expax but soon, i think we should be keeping an eye on what part the Marrs twin play in this whole thing.

Interesting to read the original post by Holly, I read a lot of... we're working on this, devoloping that. In other words a lot of stuff that doesn't appear to be finished yet from her comments, and with 2 months to release... and not even notes out to anyone on beta invite try-outs?

Rift gave us a hit, Sotr another, GWII...? I know for the last 2 weeks I've not even been compelled to log in because of the later of these. I know i'm not alone because our entire family went the same way.

I saw the news on the release of "information" for this xpac, but its dismal and dissapointing at this point. I'd rather run around in an MMO where every area i go to I'm w/ people doing stuff, besides just being around a ton of people, the world itself also seems to move. And when I'm saying people, I mean even in the oddest spots, full raid size, non-forced, non-punished groups+ on an overflow instance.

Best part is its just plain fun. Saddly after 9 years of eq2 i had lost that feeling couple years ago and it only has gotten worse. I will miss my friends I made along the way, the game took a weird turn imo. Which is really sad because it has so many really awesome features you won't find anywhere. The only thing lacking is fun - social involvement outside of raids and a moving, breathing world.

I never even intended to "move on", it was a gift for my bday, what an eye opener...

I guess there will be a Beta signup and NDA like in past years (based on Abby's post)?
