OS: XP Pro, SP3RAM: 4 GB DDR2Video: nVidia GeForce 7600 GSAudio: Soundblaster X-FiGameType: EoF All-In One installed from DVD, then updated via Launchpad

After letting the game update itself, I can no longer enter the world on any character. I can get to the character selection screen but when I pick any character and choose "play", after loading for about 30 seconds the game crashes.

I was able to play just fine prior to the Qeynos Rises update. I've tried the following:

Reinstall the game

Update video drivers

Update audio drivers

Set graphics settings to extreme performance

Choose Miles instead of EAX for sound provider

Set display to Windowed (also tried fullscreen)

There is no specific error message. A box simply appears saying "Faulting application". A crash dump is created but "wws_crashreport_uploader.exe" never activates to try to send it where it needs to go.

Edit:

A couple other things I tried since my OP:

Reinstall DirectX runtimes

Roll back all Windows Updates for the past month

Reinstall C++ runtimes

None of these had any effect, game still crashes after clicking "Play"

After the update today, now it just crashes without creating a crash dump. As soon as I select a character and click "Play" it displays the following:

EQ2 Client Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience

Good news, I'm able to play now.

I uninstalled the game and tried a different installation method:

I deleted everything left behind by the uninstaller except the character XML files

I installed the EOF all-in-one that I have

I ran "EQ2_Full_setup.exe" (without starting EQ2 yet) to get the updated Launcher

I ran the Launcher and let it patch

In the past I hadn't cleaned out the EQ2 folder after uninstalling. This meant not only did I have someold files left behind but my old custom UI as well. After this latest fresh install I am now able to log in.

One interesting thing is that this time the EOF installer actually ran the DirectX installer and it did find filesto replace. In the previous installation attempt this did not happen. Not sure what exactly was the deciding factor but I sure am glad I got to log in.
