Question from a returning player

<p>I've been gone a long while, and missed a lot of changes apparently.  I am currently level 54, and looking to learn some new spells.  I understand that you don't automatically get spells after level 50 now, so I went out and bought a couple.  Unfortunately, I can't seem to memorize these - I get the message "You lack the knowledge required to cast this spell"  when I try to scribe them.</p><p>What am I missing here?</p><p>Thanks for your help!</p>

<p>You do get apprentice versions of spells past level 50 these days. That was changed years ago. Apprentice spells aren't terribly powerful, but with as overpowered as gear is at those levels, it hardly matters. I honestly wouldn't bother spending too much money on spell upgrades until at least level 70, unless you plan to intentionally slow your leveling pace.</p>
