<p>mercs dont count for loot rules except when dealing with coin. so if you loot a chest with coin and items you'll get the items they'll get a cut of the coin. they take a cut of coin to balance out their upkeep costs. when it was on test merc costed alot more and didn't get a cut of coin from chests.</p>

<p>Check your default loot options, getting the lotto on all chests (when you didn't have them before) sounds like maybe those have changed.</p>

<p>When it's just me and merc in group I toss on round-robin. Merc only takes coin split and I can be lazy and click one or two fewer pop-up boxes. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

<p>The merc gets part of your XP too, so it's both faster and slower with one.  They don't take any loot except coin.</p>
