I was noticing this game is very laggy, especially in Halas once you leave the crafting area and I have been discon due to lag several times. I play on crushbone (I hope that's the right name). Just wondering if this is normal or is the game just that loaded with players? I was just kind of surprised since the game is pretty old...but yes the state of new games is tragic at least until Archeage arrives.

it could be the server, the connection between you and SOE or it could be your system hardware or drivers.

try turning down your graphics settings and make sure your graphics drivers are upto date your lag could be hardware related.

What graphics card and CPU are you using?

The majority of players don't have issues, but it could be just about anything. Tell us about your system. And how fast your internet connection is!

I am running an Alien computer with a raydon graphics card...it's a 2 year old machine and I go thru and update the drivers every few months...I wasn't experiencing lag in Tera or Fallen Earth like this so it's just surprising on an old game. I didn't want to lower my graphics quality because i'm trying to get my mom and friends to join and if I lower my graphics they won't be impress...(they are really into graphics)...

Also, I have a really fast connection because I have the highest tier of the Cox cable connection.

Thanks for the help on this!

I have a ATI Radeon HD5670. I have 4 intel core i3 530 @ 2.93GHz... I'm on Windows 7... Hopefully that's enough info.

I experience some lag in New Halas also. There are just a very few items in your graphics settings that will help a lot to reduce lag and still show great graphics. First, turn off flora. Second, turn off shadows, especially environment shadows. Third, turn off specular lighting. As you turn each off, monitor your framerate (F11 key) and lag. Then start returning the things you feel you need for the graphics experience, in limited quantity, like just personal shadows. I can't run shadows there on two accounts at once without one account becoming a slideshow.

I thought of a couple more graphics tricks that won't sacrifice (much) detail: render distance, complex shader distance, and lighting resolution sliders.

EQ2 is CPU-dependent for graphics. The game was being developed back when the computer industry was at a crossroads: make bigger single processors with radical composites that could handle the waste heat or start piggybacking multiple processors for better computing power with a more diffuse heat signature. RAM is your friend, and if you can get improvement by checking the use multicore function in Options > Performance, do so.

Thanks so much for the advice. I will try turning off those settings when I get home and check the performance of the game from there. It seems to be less laggy during the week also, so I think it may have to do with population as well.
