View Full Version : Now that we've finished with the XP nerfs...

First off let me say--I've gotten all the toons I care about to at least 90/320. So this post isn't about me. But now that we've nerfed most of the ways to grind xp (getting rid of instances, changing from multiplicative to additived bonuses, whacking RAFs, and parking in BGs), can yall go back and give a hard look at the xp/aa rewards from quests? Even with all the nerfs that have been imposed on grinding (and SOE, yall really tried your darndest), I would still prefer to grind it out on mobs from expansions long ago than dicker around with quests. They are just that painfully slow. If you can find the time to fix an xp bug that's been around for years, maybe you can finally retune your quest xp. My suggestion is that you need to triple them at the very least.

Side note: The quests in gu63 overland zone are pretty well done. But the only reason why I'm doing them is to get some of my older toons reasonably caught up gear-wise. If it were not for the gear, I would definitely not be doing them.

My views, having played eq1 from launch for 5 years but only eq2 for the past 3, is that no one way should be the best way. Whether it's grinding or questing, the game should NEED both to progress. The idea behind a lot of the quests are to kill x mobs, so you get some xp anyway from both. I don't think for simple quests the xp reward should be too high. For harder ones, sure. It's a shame chronoing down and killing in RoK is quicker to get from 90-92. Personally I think chronoing should not give you any normal xp, onlly AA xp. It seems strange that you can self mentor from 90 to 80 and ding 91-92. Right now, I'm just into 91 after doing 2/3rds of the WL quests and a couple of hours grouping in contested Skyshrine. I think that's fair. But then I'm used to slow xp from my eq1 days and I'm not in a rush to get 92. Once I've finished the WL questline, if I can't get a Skyshrine group, I'll go to RoK to level to 92. But that's only if I can't get a group. I like the options rather than sitting LFG and getting no xp at all. The quest xp below DoV is ok, its how I leveled for the most part. But I did it as well as grinding, I took the quests then tried to kill everything I could in the areas the quests took me. I thought that was the point?

3 toons to 92 in a couple of days just randomly doing WL quests and grouping up in skyshrine. (4-6 hours a day)

Doesn't seem to bad.

Although yes, I agree, for the majority of the game, questing should give a higher xp reward.

Regardless, even if they beef up questing xp, and nerf XP from mobs, you'll still find a large selection of people who will still prefer to level by mass killing and grinding on mobs vs. running around doing quests.

Even though you can go from 90-92 in roughly 2-3 hours by chronoing 80 and putting a massacre on lower Sebilis or Chelsith/Charasis grinds, I'd still rather quest if it's simliarly viable.

The game is called ever-Quest, after all.

I did all the quest in the Withered lands at level 90, and didnt even break 91. Was like 82% in. Exp should be a lot better on quest completions.

It isn't that the amount of experieince is off versus the past, it is that as a percentage of the level it is less because of the increased amounts needed for the prestige levels. They would have to add an inordinate amount of quests, or have a crazy amount of experience awarded per quest to get you to 92 simply from questing. There probably just wasnt even dev time to add more than the 100 or so quests added, and as adventure experience can be converted to AAs past 90 still, having silly high absolute experieince rewards would just trivialise gaining AA...especially the next time they have a bonus weekend.

It's not perfect how it is, but it is pretty good.

Not being a errand boy for some NPC that seem fit to run me to the other end of the zone and back multiple times for their amusement. So you can take your "I want to be an errand boy" mentality and shove it. So quit assuming that the word quest in EverQuest is to imply the game is about doing quest for NPC.
