I'm guessing I missed the memo. How do I stop getting the message in the title?

I know I'm not in a mail transaction, and haven't been for weeks. I get this message sort of randomly, when zoning, reviving, or most anything that reinitializes something. I get it on multiple characters, on multiple computers.

As a 2nd question, why does the message even exist? Why bad thing might I be doing would merit me getting it ever?

Baffles me. If the game knows you're not in a mail transaction, how is it so difficult not to display the message?

I get this exact same thing, generaly every time I zone with any character, it's an annoyance more than anything but it has been going on for a few weeks.

Been doing this since they allowed us to access mail boxes without being at a mailbox, so i think they created a bug by adding a feature.

You are all wrong. This has not been happening for years and it has nothing to do with accessing mail from the EQ2 menu.

This was a hastily prepared fix for folks who had problems because of a bug that said you were in a mail transaction when you weren't. It is annoying, but it solved a problem many folks were having. If this forum's search function was working I would provide a link to the original threads.

It's still bugged and it started when they added instant access for those that didn't want to use the maliboxes. I didn't mind using a mailbox and hate getting spammed every tmie I zone. Two more changes that further reduce my game immersion.

Telling people that they're completely wrong, and one thing has nothing to do with the other is rather silly in light of that information. Trust me when I say this. A fix for an old bug can create a new bug later on down the line if anything relating to that fix is changed later on.

My take:

1. It's one line, typically when you zone. It's not like we're getting inundated with spam. I consider it more a quirk.

2. Much of their codebase has probably passed the 10 year mark (figure it was under development for a few years before release). Throughout that time it's been heavily modified by numerous programmers, often under tight deadlines, which means there was probably a strong incentive to do it fast rather then right. How many threads have you seen over the years demanding they release this or that thing NOW? All those quick changes have a last bad effect on large codebases.

3. It's been my unfortunate experience that codebases like that can turn into a real mess to work on (I have the dubious pleasure of dealing with one right now at work). If it just shows a quirky one line message every now and then I'll be happy. Hopefully it won't sieze up completely.

So I figure it's just a quirk of an aging code base. The thing's getting old. It shows.

I started seeing this bug after the mail service was changed to being able to read it anywhere. I've never seen that bug before then. Many others have said in chat they see it now all the time when they zone.

If I did, it was so random that I didn't notice or care enough to remember. Since the change, it pops up every single time I zone. They don't get counted if you place them down in the room which can be really annoying if you want rougher mobs in them and can't buff them. Usually happens in 2-4 corridors. I have mostly used the mistmoore layouts but it's present in one of the lair of scales ones as well. This applies to ALL buff boxes, so it shouldnt matter if you use tier/HP/magic dmg, etc... none of them triggers. You can spot it easily by putting a mob down and an effect object next to it. If you click the mob in the editor after this, and the effect object is active, you will see the buff in the editor. If the room is broken, the editor won't show it below the mob's name. One example of this is the room in the mistmoore map with a water cellar. There are some turning stairs at a point with a small room in front of them, where buffing doesn't work. Also a long corridor in this map next to the huge room near the middle of it is bugged.I have used three of the mistmoore layouts and found a few bugged rooms in all of them. Like I said, it is mainly corridors this happens to, often ones that turns, but sometimes straight corridors or smaller rooms as well.
