Hi, I recently recieved a nice little email stating that a 'third party hack' was found running on one of my accounts. Curious, i reply to the GM asking for some clarification, and instead i get a reply that seemed like a copy and paste of what the previous GM stated: "We detected a third party hack running" .. I'm now irritated with these two clowns.

If you're going to say to someone "keep doing /IT/ and you'll get banned" have the common sense to include what that IT is. I understand the need to be circumspect with regards to naming specific apps/devices, but give me a *$%$%$ hint as to what you THINK i'm doing wrong. Stating a "third party hack", linking to a BROKEN KB article, and leaving it at that is not very satisfying.

Background: I mostly dual box, i have a nostromo gamepad for controlling a healer (fully attended, there is no afk playing going on here.) I use the nostromo for movement and spell casting. I also use a naga MMO mouse for playing my tank -- minimizing the use of a keyboard between the two characters. This does involve keys being bound to multiple abilities, but in a 'one click, one cast' fashion, and using eq2's built in macros.

I"ve been using this setup for approximately 3 weeks, and seems to be working well. What i'm wondering is (and i cannot get a clear, concise, and most importantly -- consistent answer) Is using products like the g15, nostromo, or naga mouse kosher w/ eq2?

Further what would be the extent of macro usage within the software for these devices? IE, could a user setup a macro that simulates multiple hotkeys being pressed in succession with a delay? (provided the user was present throughout)? I've been playing eq2 literally since release, and prior the naga/nostromo i had a logitech g15 from may of 06 until recently, and nary an issue was made of it -- until today.

It's impossible to know what it was that you were doing that smelled funny. Normally, just having a mouse, keyboard, and gamepad won't cause any problems. Push back, see if you can get a hint. (You probably won't)

I did get unfairly dinged long ago for enabling some Advanced features in my video card utilitiy. There were features to create a floating OSD indicator of FPS, Temperature, Memory, and CPU busy. In order to do this on a D3D game, I had to check a box that read something like "Hook into Application DirectX layer". I turned that on, and by the end of the day had a CS "Incident".

So, it might be something related to the obvious. Or it might be something not so obviously related...

I use pretty much exactly the same setup, boxing, nostromo & naga. I even program some nostromo macro's for sequential abilities that need a slight time delay in between them (tank pre engagement buff's), have another single click nostromo button on repeat while down and tied to an in game macro with 10 CA's in chain.

Never had any message from any GM or in game problem, been using it like this for over a year now.

The messaging you got seems to indicate something is modifying the memory space in which the game responds (similar to the D3D hook described above for the user using OSD) - be sure to review your users manual or other documentation for your nostromo pad / g15 to be sure there's nothing forcing it's way in to the game's memory space.

Past that I can't really offer any advice, I do not have information on what was detected in your system, but hopefully the advice above helps you in some way.

I also received this same e-mail today.

Using a G15 keyboard and Cyborg mouse and have been for over two years and neither is programmed to do anything other then displaying ACT and Ventrilo.
