I installed this video card last night and while running through Halas, I noticed black patches of snow/ice. Not ALL snow/ice areas, just certain layers of it.

Any thoughts. As far as a non-techie knows, the drivers are the current one with Directx 9c (August)

Sounds like the card has artifacts. This can be caused by overheating or the GPU (graphics processor). Try checking graphic drivers and latest patches for directx.

Else you can try using a program called "3D Mark" . This will benchmark your system and really push the graphics card. If you see the artifacts here then the card is bad and needs to be replaced or RMA.

I'll have hubby check the program. I'm too chicken toinstall new stuff I did take this picture of what I'm seeing:

Although i *feel* I've had a drop in fps with this video card, it's otherwise fine, good colors, better then my earlier one..blue is blue..yellow is nice yellow!

That looks like a corrupted texture or bad shadow map. Can you try doing the "validate game assets" option under advanced tools in the launcher, and if that does not resolve it can you try disabling shadows entirely to see if that helps?

Shadows were off when I took that (don't run with shadows), did a full validation (twice) and deleted my ionplans folder. DId that before bothering you fine folks But, alas...

If I could next have you try completely uninstalling your ATI drivers and Catalyst Control Center, and reinstall (at default settings) to see if that helps?

Looking at Halas on my husband's computer, the areas I see as pitch black are WHITE on his. All areas tha are more white grey, I see fine, but the parts of Halas that are really white is what's bugging for me.

Halas has trouble with black areas, and it's not just Radeon cards or white snow. I have an Nvidia GTS 450, here's an example of a glitch in Halas that only appears on Balanced or lower..
