LU63 is about to make all of the DoV content obsolete. Anyone looking to advance their character is going to go from questing in SF solo content 80-86, DoV 86-90 (maybe 92) and then WL to gear up for Skyshrine and never look at any of the group content from SF or DoV unless they are looking for some quick plat.

Effectively itemization is going to reward us for doing a very small fraction of the content and provide no incentive to visit the rest of the 90 content. This is very poor design.

Worse, the new gear really is needed for the new content. This same gear makes the earlier content trivial. Without changing everything before LU 63 goes live the producers of the game have chosen to sacrifice all of development's hard work over the last 3 years for what has been cooked up over the last 4 months.

It really seem like your wasting a lot of effort here. Smaller shifts in difficulty and rewards would of prolonged the lifespan of DoV content.

Still, its possible to revamp older zones and salvage the work Dev has already done. Introduce "hardmode" or better come up with a new title like "Corrupted" versions of the older heroic and raid content where you bump the mobs up to be a challenge for players with LU63 gear and rewards similar to the new content. Create a new adornment system for the corrupted zones and the goal should be to broaden what content gets used so people don't feel like they are locked to 3 instances and raid zones for progression. Maybe even come up with a token system where you earn tokens by running quests similar to the weekly shards now? Instead of getting 8 shards, you get 1 token that can be spent on low end fabled gear similar to the x2 stuff. Running the x2 raids should be an easier way of aquiring the gear, but any additional incentive to broaden an player's adventuring targets should be looked into.

Can't you do old content just for the sake of doing it?

Why must everything reward you with gear? Can't the reward be the satisfaction of completing the zone?

That would be absurd, unless the content we were talking about is entirely grey and trivial.

I'd be the first to jump there!

a progression server in eq2 would take very little time. unless of course if you are not allowed to gain AA until KoS is unlock, djinn master might hold people for 1 or 2 nights. but with the gear revamp it would be easy to get high crit/MA and trivialise T5 T6 T7 T8 content.

game mechanics have changed too much since those encounters were created but it would still be semi entertaining to run from T5 up again, i suppose.

edit.

actually given the absence of pre-lu13 op classes and buffs and AA/blue stats T5 & T6 raiding might actually be challenging.
