this problem recures daily for past 3 days or so.

1. click eq2 desktop icon

2. click "play"

3. enter login information - it is accepted

4. click play - this enters a blank, black screen and nothing else happens. computer locks up. task manager says that eq2 is "not responding"

NOTE: yesterday i got past the problem by un-installing then re-installing eq2. and i'm in the process of doing that again now...... but come on..... there has to be a better answer than that.... 3 hours every day to just setup the game to be playable?????

What is going on?

I've been trying to get an answer for that for the past few days. Good luck trying to get an answer. I too had to uninstall the whole program and reinstall last night to finally get it to work. I've been thinking about coming back to the game, but with the lack of response from technical support and the fact that you have to reinstall a game just to be able to play it...not sure if I'll be playing now.

Sounds like something is getting corrupted with your installs. We'd want a bit more info about your machine before making reccomendations though. Please contact support and attach your dxdiag/msinfo files to your ticket.

Sorry it took so long to get back

After my first message, I reloaded eq2 -- again, the launcher froze up -- again, but that time it crashed my windows 7. The time used since my first message was to do a complete reinstall of my entire system.

So now that I have a complete system reinstall, the game still freezes at the same blank screen and I am still unable to get into eq2 at exactly the same point as before.

On-going problem.

Once again, this morning, the black screen is back again and i'm not able to log-in.

I've been able to log into the game and actually play it during the last day and a half with about 8 to 10 log-in log-out cycles. Today, i was planning to log-in here add give a thumbs-up that the problem fixed itself..... however.....

Today, from about 4:30am until now about 5:50am PST, I am once again unable to log-in and the server stops responding at the blank screen.

Servers are up and populated, at least according to your own website.

??? What did you change in the overnight patch?

??? How often has it been changed in the last few weeks?

??? Are you going to fix it?

??? Are you ever going to report to your game players, EVERY patch/update that you install into the game. I know personally of three un-documented patches/updates that were installed between the last 2 listed patches/updates on your website.

BTW, the problem i'm having is comming direct from the EQ2 game.... and i believe the undocumented patches/updates are the reasons for the sporatic nature of the problem.

Ok, now this is getting really weird.

About 5 minutes ago, I was able to get into the game, after a couple hours (est.) of log-in failures.

The only change I made was to go to a totally non-related website. It responded that it required "MSXML 5.0" (from Microsoft) and internet explorer (MS) gave me the choice to "run" or "run on all websites". I chose the latter, then went back to attempt EQ2 again and EQ2 worked.

I assume MSXML 5.0 was not running on my system, but I have no idea if that makes any difference to EQ2. (although, it seems to have made a serious difference)

Other possibility, there was another unannounced patch/update occuring during that time.

You all have any comments on this?

I've been able to log-in for the past few days without any trouble.

So thankyou SOE for taking more diligence on programing your patch/updates... there has been 1 that I am aware of that was an unanounced patch/update, and it didn't cause any problems for me, or for others.

It seems to me that my problem and solution are both located in your programers diligence.

I hope they continue to rise to higher and higher levels of expertise.
