Apparently the soulbinders (i think they wre also called the Order of Eternity) were formed by a man named Gaedin Gyth but is there any more lore on the soulbinders and more importantly the consequences of their actions?

It seems strange that soulbinding and immortality isn't taken into consideration with a lot of the lore particularly how much of a threat (im)mortals are having this power and what they have managed to achieve with it

Would we really have made it that far out of our starting cities 13 years ago when we started playing EQ to eventually conquer the planes of power without this ability given to us by the soul binders?

Post-Pop Lore on Geadin Gyths

Caskin Marsheart says, 'Geadin Gyths was, in many ways, a pioneer of soul binding. His research helped to allow the soulbinders to operate, but he went too far. He was expelled from the soulbinders for using some of those that came to him for simple binding as experiment victims, sometimes pulling their souls from their bodis (on accidents he claims) and binding them to a series of gems that he kept on hand. The order of Soulbinders managed to recover those gems and the lost souls and removed Geadin from their ranks. Something that happened at that time, perhaps even something that the Soulbinders did to him, drove him [mad].'

Caskin Marsheart says, 'He ran off and I haven't heard from him in more than ten years. So you can see why the Soulbinders don't want to talk about him. There's nothing to fear from them, they have one of the most grueling screening processes I've ever heard of. I guess Geadin helped them in that way too. I don't know why you seek Geadin or his type of magic, you don't seem like the sort that would be interested in that sort of thing. I will warn you about my friend Geadin. He is very smart and very insane. If you can help him, I'd be grateful, but keep in mind that he doesn't see people as anything more than a tool. Good luck in finding him.'

the Soulbinders (Order of Eternity) are different the the 'binding' mechanics of EQ1. basically the Order is a small sect and only they have this 'immortality' and they use it mostly as sages and students of history...except the aforementioned Geadin, who's nuts.

All adventurers have their souls bound to their home city so that when they die they are reborn at the place they are bound. The binding ritual prevents your soul from traveling to Ethenere. The Order of Eternity offer to cast the soul binding ritual for any adventurer so they can change the location they are bound to. Soulbinding existed before the Order came into being, but the Order made it their duty to offer the casting to those they deem worthy (adventurers).

Before this was introduced you had to find one of the spell casters in game and have them cast the ritual for you at the new city. Said casters could bind themselves anywhere (with disasterous results. See death-bind loop).

The order came into existance after PoP was released which makes them non-cannon for EQ2 unless a dev introduces them here. There isn't any technical reason why we shouldn't have soulbinding still. Probably it should be even called more "advanced" now since we revive in the same zone instead of at a home city but it is an in-game explination for a game mechanic so it really doesn't have to be explained at all by Lore since it isn't necessaraly part of any story.
