Hi everyone,

I posted a similar post on the newbie forum, but received no responses. Also, the class forums don't seem active, so I was hoping I might have better luck here.

I recently purchased the game with the Age of Discovery expasion, and I have settled on the Monk class. I basically just plan on playing for EQ1 nostalgia purposes and as a result, only plan to play solo and until I get bored. I don't ever anticipate raiding or getting all my AAs or anything like that, and it seems like the game is on its last leg.

With that being said, I have had no luck finding guides on where to put AAs for Monks. Most of the builds are severly outdated and the recent ones I do find assume 320 AA points (or however many points there are) and raiding. I was hoping I might find advice on a good build for soloing PvE and possibly attempting some dungeons with a Mercenary. I have found one semi-recent soloing builds that suggest putting something like the first 50 points into tanking skills just in case you end up main tanking while leveling. That doesn't seem useful for me since I don't plan on doing any grouping, but maybe it is needed for working with a mercenary?

So, would anyone happen to have an AA build for solo players. Specifically, I mainly need recommendations into what skills I should go for/max first that will make soloing PvE content easier. Looking at a talent calculator is helpful, but with 320 AA points allocated, I have no idea what is important to go to first.

Thanks!

Go to eq2flames and check out the monk section. There are plenty of AA guides/discussion there.

I have. They don't offer advice for solo builds (only raid builds), and they are a-holes if anyone asks questions.

It's all the same thing tho, for the most part. The builds won't differ that much.

http://beetny.com/eq2aa/?GU62;c02s1...@1551@1555@1511

You're welcome.

The 1 point left over is going to go into combination. Beetny must be broken, because for some reason I can't put a point in it.

Thank you for the build. Do you have advice about which skills to go for first?

Work on the brawler tree first. Go down the strength line. Then it wouldn't hurt to go down the stamina

The Chi thing (haven't played a monk in years) is great for survival.

You're going to want to get to the end of the Strength and Wisdom lines for Chi and Crane Flock.

You'll also want Ambidexterity in the Stamina line. You can ignore the other lines for now.

Put 4 points in the first ability of each of those three lines, then 4 points in the second ability of each line. Then work all the way down to the end of the Strength line before starting to do the same to the Wisdom line. You won't be able to finish it till you pass level 70. By then you won't need anyone's advice about where to put your points

Feign Death is your best friend. Keep it Mastered.

Still below 70 with AA points to spend but Brawler tree is capped at 50? Spend your points in all your Taunt enhancements in the Monk tree. Your Merc will thank you for it. Got more points? Spend them on your self-protection abilities in the Monk tree. That and at least Master Crafted gear will keep your healer merc happy.

Merc hint: Set his/her Assist drop-down to none or he'll use up all his power DPSing instead of healing you.
