Hey Folks,

My name is Piestro, and I'm a Halfling.

/em waits for the "Hi Piestro."

Some of you may have seen me in an occasional post, Facebook update, or tweet in my role as a member of the SOE Community Team. Previously I was assigned to EverQuest, but it's my pleasure to announce that I am now taking on the role of EverQuest II Community Relations Manager!

So who am I? Well, I'm a long time fan of SOE Games, and an experienced Community Relations professional. For a little more than a year I've been working on EverQuest. This was easy for me, as EverQuest was always my favorite MMO and getting to work on it as a professional was a dream come true in many senses.

While I dearly love EQ, its Dev Team, and community, when I was told I would be switching to EQII I was very excited. In my role on the Community Team I have been attending EQII meetings for some time and every time I learned more about the game, I'd get a little more curious and interested. I'm really looking forward to the next GU. You'll all be hearing more about it soon enough!

Working with the EQII Team is a fantastic opportunity and I'm very much looking forward to getting to know all of you; I strongly believe that the true heart of any MMORPG is the community of players who inhabit it. The EverQuest II player community is passionate and creative, and cares about their game; what better group of people to work with could there be?

I'm also having a lot of fun playing EQII! I'm one of those people who was too invested in EQ at the time EQII launched to make the switch - yeah, one of those people. I logged into EQII for the first time back in December, and was amazed at the depth and polish of the game. I started playing a Defiler and loved the Neriak starting experience, with all the story and lore packed in there. Since then I've started a Shadow Knight and am busy leveling him, but you might see me roaming about Norrath leveling my Halfling soon; the question is, should he be a Warden or Fury? I'd love to hear your opinions before I create him.

You'll hear more from me soon on the forums, and say hi if you see me in-game!

Thanks,

-Piestro

I've been quietly involved in EQ2 for some time, and have been writing up some of the reports on current EQ2 player issues. We don't always get to pick a quiet moment to make these sorts of changes and today happened to be the day. Hopefully I can contribute positively to overall forum discussions and help bring things back into a more normal frame of reference.

I do ask that we try and keep those other issues which we're refering to in their own thread, this is very important for reporting and communicating player issues upwards and outwards.

Thanks,

-P

Hello Piestro --

Welcome to post-Shattering Norrath.

As a former EQ player, I can say from experience that the adventuring is fairly similar to the pre-Shattering version. Not identical, but similar enough that the transition shouldn't be too difficult.

The crafting, however, is quite different.

Piestro wrote:

Rijacki wrote:

Piestro wrote:

oafgirl wrote:

The *real* question is -- which tradeskill will you be pursuing? (Provisioner is NOT an automatic choice for halflings....)

Tradeskills in EQII are different enough for me that I'm not quite sure yet. Any reccomendations?

Go through the Tradeskill tutorial quest line and find the one that you find interesting, either from the process or products made

I took my defiler (first toon, one I'll come back to eventually) to about level 19 in tradeskills. It's fun but that seems like a long road that I'm not sure I want to commit to just yet. I'm hoarding materials for that future day.

Crafting is just about equally as long as adventuring. If you're willing to embark upon that road, and do it multiple times no less, then traveling the crafting path at least once should not be too overwhelming!

Here, unlike "Classic" EQ, we get a lot of quests that we can do to help us level up our characters' crafting skills faster. It's probably easiest to do the crafting quests while you're also growing in adventuring, so that the local fauna is not splattering you all over the countryside.

Zam can be helpful, but I find my biggest sanity-saver is Denmum's site at eq2.eqtraders.com -- might want to take a peek there, too, if you're at all willing to explore that half of the game.

I made the mistake of counting recently, and discovered I have 60 alts spread across 5 servers and a couple different accounts. Denmum talks about her "3-account alt army" (though she hasn't given a count). Cloudrat may have even more characters than I do.

We all do crafting, as do many other players.

I'd expect that if we can do tradeskills, then you can too. *grins* In some cases, people craft more than they adventure. So sampling crafting should be part of thoroughly learning EverQuest II, if that is your ambition.

And remember... name of the game is EverQUEST (not EverRaid... it's not about bug spray! )

Anyhow, welcome to EQII. Hope you enjoy it here among us.

PS -- I'd recommend Warden over Fury. Wardens have the option to improve melee abilities, giving them more flexibility. And then either tailor (for clothing and backpacks) or Carpenter (bank boxes and Decorating!!) as ways to explore crafting.

My vote is for Fury (but I hate playing melee characters) Fury = Caster Healer - goes best in a mage group if you like raiding. Can heal a group to full faster than any other healer and can also nuke very effectively (we love group encounters - pew pew). Warden = Melee Healer - goes best in the tank/melee group. (although they are rarely needed for raiding - pretty much only encounters that need root immunity for the tank group). Wardens do excel in heroic instances and PVP. They are the more defensive druid healer.

nice chops on the halfling, I had a halfling druid on eq1 once in the day, when the boats didnt work, max level was 50 and the server gm (yes there was always a gm online) would do a server broadcast announcing that you made level 50. Hunting lightstones in eruds crossing for coin was fun, tradeskilling was really a pita, and the run the run through Kithicor woods at night was akin to suicide. Now days on EQ2 people are ****ed off about this server sell off, leaving the game by hordes, looking for non existant or very slow forthcoming answers, and we see this silly man wearing a tinfoil hat with some sort or blanket or sheet upon his back, that plays a halfing druid and smokes. And this silly man tinfoil hat wearing man takes on a HUGE challenge jumps right into the jumjum pot and says hello here I am the new CRM for eq2. Well the smoking habit has increased these last few days I wager as well as the intake of copious amounts of alcohol, havent seen a halfling that doesnt drink which is why the "Fool's Gold" is the largest fixture in Rivervale bigger than the town hall if I recall, and maybe the use of asprin has increased also.

Anyways I hope Sony says hey maybe this sell off wasn't so bright, or maybe some sort of information will be released other than the we are listening bit (communication is two way hint, hint) and I hope you can handle the stress.

Good luck with the new position, piestro the pie-miestro, maybe at fan faire there will be a pie tossing booth?

It would be nice to know "if" there is a tradeskill developer anymore, or at least SOMEONE that can respond in a timely manner to things. There are threads on important issues (game mechanics, items, tradeskills, etc) that have gone unanswered for literally MONTHS now.

It looks like you are (at least initially) going to be posting with some frequency, so here's hoping you can be the voice that has been missing for quite some time.

Sorta like the Maestro of Pies. I did not come up with this name primarily to troll Zatozia (another CRM here on the team), that is a vicious rumor.

Had he initially been created in EQ2 he probably would have been a dirge, but since Original EQ does not have the option of halfling bards (I'm assuming because the great number of love ballads dedicated to baked goods was deemed a threat to the pre-shattering Norrath) I went with a druid instead.

Now that I've travelled in time, I feel loyal to the little digger. So Warden or Fury it is. I've played a few levels of each now, of course not enough to see the difference. Maybe I'll have to level both (eventually) on different servers.

I understand. My main on Bristlebane server was a Half-elf Druid. My warden on EQ2 is also half-elf, and named after my EQ main. (Although that toon isn't my main. Necromancers are pretty fun in EQ2, even if groups aren't exactly hammering down the door.) I'd agree with your plan to try both.
