View Full Version : Disconnected when zoning, horrible ping times

I just switched from Comcast to Centurylink this afternoon. With my pc connected directly to the dsl modem, everything was peachy. I had to reconfigure my router to look at the centurylink dns servers, but that all appeared to be working fine when I was done.

However, now when I log into the game (Oasis server) I experience intermittent lag and when I zone it boots me to character select.

The first thing I did was go back to a direct connection to the dsl modem. It does the exact same thing.

Speedtest.net and Centurylink's own speedtest site show good connection.

Attempting to ping Oasis from the command prompt times out. I used the url suggested in the "How to run a tracert and pathping" post, replacing unrest with oasis as suggested. The ping goes out to ableq2-06-01.everquest2.com when I type that; I'm assuming that's correct?

I would be sure this was a Centurylink problem if it wasn't for the tracert pings stopping after it hits the sonyonline url... I stopped the pathping after it hung up for several minutes on the same spot.

Windows IP Configuration   Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : *****   Primary Dns Suffix  . . . . . . . :    Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid   IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No   WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : NoEthernet adapter Local Area Connection:   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1A-92-75-21-17   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::f04c:1438:1e42:4621%10(Preferred)    IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.3(Preferred)    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0   Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Tuesday, February 14, 2012 2:41:49 PM   Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, February 15, 2012 2:41:48 PM   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1   DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1   DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 234887826   DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-15-FF-9D-6E-00-1A-92-75-21-17   DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1   NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : EnabledTunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 11:   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes   IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:0:4137:9e76:28ec:1358:3f57:fffc(Preferred)    Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::28ec:1358:3f57:fffc%11(Preferred)    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : ::   NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : DisabledTunnel adapter isatap.{79E1177D-509A-4F7E-9D92-070933AB4895}:   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :    Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : YesTracing route to ableq2-06-01.everquest2.com [199.108.202.193]over a maximum of 30 hops:  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  192.168.0.1   2    43 ms    42 ms    46 ms  ptld-dsl-gw39-231.ptld.qwest.net [207.225.84.231]   3    60 ms    44 ms    39 ms  ptld-agw1.inet.qwest.net [207.225.86.49]   4    94 ms    46 ms    46 ms  sea-edge-12.inet.qwest.net [67.14.41.26]   5    47 ms    49 ms    48 ms  63-233-86-174.dia.static.qwest.net [63.233.86.174]   6    62 ms    75 ms    67 ms  tge2-2.fr4.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.189.69]   7   111 ms   124 ms   112 ms  tge9-4.fr4.ord.llnw.net [69.28.172.78]   8   133 ms   134 ms   151 ms  tge10-3.fr4.lga.llnw.net [69.28.172.197]   9   178 ms   134 ms   133 ms  tge8-2.fr4.iad.llnw.net [69.28.189.34]  10   139 ms   139 ms   134 ms  sony.ge4-12.fr4.iad.llnw.net [69.28.156.214]  11   138 ms   136 ms   134 ms  vl47.ashaens-2.sonyonline.net [64.37.144.181]  12     *        *        *     Request timed out. 13     *        *        *     Request timed out. 14     *        *        *     Request timed out. 15     *        *        *     Request timed out. 16     *        *        *     Request timed out. 17     *        *        *     Request timed out. 18     *        *        *     Request timed out. 19     *        *        *     Request timed out. 20     *        *        *     Request timed out. 21     *        *        *     Request timed out. 22     *        *        *     Request timed out. 23     *        *        *     Request timed out. 24     *        *        *     Request timed out. 25     *        *        *     Request timed out. 26     *        *        *     Request timed out. 27     *        *        *     Request timed out. 28     *        *        *     Request timed out. 29     *        *        *     Request timed out. 30     *        *        *     Request timed out.Trace complete.Tracing route to ableq2-06-01.everquest2.com [199.108.202.193]over a maximum of 30 hops:  0  Alphawolf [192.168.0.3]   1  192.168.0.1   2  ptld-dsl-gw39-231.ptld.qwest.net [207.225.84.231]   3  ptld-agw1.inet.qwest.net [207.225.86.49]   4  sea-edge-12.inet.qwest.net [67.14.41.26]   5  63-233-86-174.dia.static.qwest.net [63.233.86.174]   6  tge2-2.fr4.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.189.69]   7  tge9-4.fr4.ord.llnw.net [69.28.172.78]   8  tge10-3.fr4.lga.llnw.net [69.28.172.197]   9  tge8-2.fr4.iad.llnw.net [69.28.189.34]  10  sony.ge4-12.fr4.iad.llnw.net [69.28.156.214]  11  vl47.ashaens-2.sonyonline.net [64.37.144.181]  12     *        *        *     Computing statistics for 275 seconds...

the * at soe's dmark can be perfectly normal, a good network security person turns off ICMP packets for ping and tracert at the firewall to prevent a form of attack on te network. your numbers start going up at hop 7 when it transfers to 69.28.172.78 - Limelight Networks, Inc.

I'd also like to see the results of a pathping to our server (same syntax as the commands you ran above, but pathping instead of tracert, etc)

You may also want to open a support ticket as we'll likely want to gather even more information from you than can be fit in a single post here!
