We are now sharing our EQ2 Players data feeds with third-party sites, which allows our incredible player community to use character data in their own creative ways. One example of community use of this information is EQ2 Wire's new EQ2U site.

If you don’t want your characters to show up on third-party sites or the upcoming revamp of the EQ2 Players site, you should disable EQ2 Players Updates in the Character window (C). You can also choose whether or not to link your Alts, so that they may/may not be found via your other characters on a single account. (By default, your Alts are not linked.)

In the Character window, click on EQII Share, then choose your preferences from the available options:

Enable EQ2 Players Updates - Make this character publicly viewable on EQ2 Players.

Link to Alt Characters - Show this character as an Alt of your other characters.

Once you have made your selection, your preference and information will be updated shortly after you next zone or camp out.

EQ2U's FAQ has more information about the data feed as well as their companion site.

Learn more about the upcoming EQ2 Players revamp from our Sneak Peek webcast, or read EQ2 Wire's transcript from the webcast.

The bottom line is that is not really "your" data anyway. You as a player lease (or not anymore in f2p) time to play a game that collects all sorts of data while you are playing it. All that data belongs to SOE, and as it doest not pertain to your actual real life self and rather a virtual avatar (that has no need for privacy) there is no obligation for SOE to protect it because this data does not pertain to anything "real".

If a person is having trouble with a stalker use the appropriate tools and /report, /petition, our of game petition, or get on the phone and call SOE customer support.

People do not have the "right" to have this data protected. Privacy "rights" do not apply here folks.

And since SOE gives players the ability to use role/anon and to block others from talking to them.

This is an implied right to privacy, and as I am paying for a service(as I am not FTP), SOE cannot arbitrarily give said protection in one medium to simply reveal it in another.

If you have no right to privacy, then why does SOE give you the option to otp out of the individual data and the viewing of alts? This also demonstrates the "right to privacy" is more then implied, they have simply not realized that guilds still reveal players that are choosing to remain private.

Players that take their privacy seriously may also choose to not play EQ2 because of the lack of control, and thus SOE loses customers.

Yours? Saying something sounds hysterical is not branding someone as such. I guess it isn't short sighted and arrogant when YOU call someone immature because they see the hypocrisy in one that wants to block their data because they don't want others to see it yet has a desire to use the services to see others.

It is working as intended the guild listing is fine, if you have your share PLAYER DATA unchecked it does not share player data, you can already verify if a toon is on or not in game so listing a name linked to no other alts is in no way a breach of privacy.

The way I see it, still displaying a name in the guild roster while being set to not share your account info with the data feeds is a non-issue when it comes to privacy. Why? Because unless you already know the person is in that guild, you CANNOT find in which guild he is. If you do a search based on his name on the data feed, you will get zero hits. So if you already know in which guild he is, then there is nothing to hide. Someone who wanted to hide himself for some reason could get a name change, and become a totally anonymous face within the guild.

There is a distinction between privacy (where you do exist in the records, but no info can be found about you unless you KNOW what you are looking for - such as your current guildmates would) and being anonymous (which does not exist in any MMORPG at all - you play the game, people see your character in the game world, with your name above your head).

Asking to be fully anonymous would be akin to asking for your character to not appear in the game world at all either.

I'm anxiously awaiting eq2players to see what kind of privacy settings you allow. Currently all my toons have opted out, but I'll gladly add them back in after eq2players launches if I'm able to control how much information is available for them, like we have always been able to do. Its my choice if I want others to see my gear, AA, spell upgrades, stats, etc. I hope there will be a way to release some, but not all, the information. Until that is available, my toons will remain opted out.

Also, I think names SHOULD remain on the guild roster so that information is accurate. Alot of people check guild rosters when considering apping for a guild to see if there is anyone they might know. My characters are opted out but I show up in my guild roster on EQ2U (not QuestForever app which also uses the data feeds) as a name with no other information (not even class). I am part of the guild, and that should show up, even if my characters are opted out of sharing the information.

Currently what you are wanting is not going to be an option on EQ2players either, this has been suggested in the developers forums and may come at some point but at the moment it is not on the immediate horizon.

Knowing how the data is formatted I know why you are not showing up on QuestForever but rest assured the only thing that shows is the name of your character, and an id number trying to get either from the player feed returns nothing about your character.

Hmm I guess the EU team missed the addition of that checkbox. It was done pretty late in the day.

btw, if the web devs teem could have a look at Storms badly updating on status page, it would be nice

You can see this problem on EQ2Wire too in the server status widget on the right. It's a question mark.
