I have looke all around the net and this forum and haven't seen the answer, so I will ask.

I am level 3 warden ... it's my first character. I noticed as I level I seem to get skills (spells) automatically.

Is this how it will be forever or do I actually train or buy, or learn others?

If you just get them all handed to you, does that end up making everyone in each class exactly the same?

Thanks for answering in advance. I didn't get to play much tonight, so I didn't get a chance to ask anyone online.

Have a great night!

As you level your skills are automatically applied except for your class specific "Fun" spells you still get from the class trainer in a city. Spells/CA have tiers that you're able to increase a few different way making them beter at each of the six tiers. In such a spell/CA is learned when you level and is an Apprentice level and can be imporved to Journeyman>Adept>Exprt>Master>Grandmaster(in some cases). However, depending on how quickly you level it is not always ideal to spend a lot of time or money on ungrading these.

Journeyman via Tradeskill crafter .. very cheap and useful upgrades

Adept via books dropped by mobs

Expert via Tradeskill crafter ... uses a rare harvest compo can be expensive

Master via books dropped by mobs, normally Bosses and from exquisite checks.

Gransmaster via your character traits panel ("L" by default) you can get one every 10 ish level starting @ 14 iirc.

All but Grandmaster can be found on the broker, or Researched ("K" by default) over time (Stations Cash can be used to reduce research time). Spending lots of Plat/SC/Cash for spells that you quickly outlevel is not the best way to go about it.

Your character is not judged or unique by it's spell/CA library as much as it is by it's spell/CA quality.

That spell research capability mentioned above starts at lvl 20 btw.

Also at level 10 you start accumulating aa points that can be used for a wide range of character modifications - eg enhancing abilities, changing ranged spells into faster recharging harder hitting melee attacks (Warden being a v good example of that), etc - use the "L" key to access that menu.

Upgrading spells/CA's does make sense for level lockers (turning experience into aa experience) who want to check out as much as they can do at the appropriate level, but not for those just heading to lvl 90 asap. (looks at self - playing since late 2005 and still have never max levelled a character)
