^^as the subject says.

I was reading up on the quest chain as my Illusionist hit lvl 80 last night.

Getting the pages for the black tome collection looks long, cumbersome, burdensome and a complete waste of time. Also having to do two heritage quests that I would otherwise not even bother with...

I saw that the buff is group rapidity and loss of concentration penalty for personae. ........to me this is just not worth the time involved.. So, for those of you that have actually gotten your epics... what is your opinion? Do you feel the time involved is worth it and why.

Are you joking ?

Gaining 3 concentration allow you to have the pet in groups, and the extra damageis welcome.Till you get it casting bufs on others is often better than having a pet.

The group velocity is a very strong buf, all your group attacking twice faster

Note also that there are two step for your weapon, one at 80 will give you a weapon that won't be really so nice. To get the powerfull effects you will need to get your mythical. Either raiding 4 years old content or doing simple level 90 instances

umm, yes. Do you group? You will want buffs for your group. The personae uses 3 slots, that cuts down on buffs drastically. The rapidity being groupwide is very nice. No more picking and choosing who gets it. At 80 you can whoop through and do those HQs gray in no time. The black tome quest is cake. The pages are marked on eq2maps.

Oh, and you get several new illusions as you go through the quest. I love that colorful hoeran one from Tim Deep.

It doesn't matter what epic weapon it is really the answer is not only yes, but hell yes it is worth getting, after you get it you are going to really need to do Fiery Jewel of the Underfoot, and then Epic Repurcussions to remove the buffs from your weapon and turn them into abilities/spells otherwise you lose a lot of stats in an important slot. As hortefoutre said there are 2 ways to get it, forget about raiding the old content, and prepare yourself for another long questline learning "To Speak as a Dragon" which will send you all across the Shattered Lands in search of draconic tomes.

Honestly the TS assistant daily task is more effort than you seem to be willing to put out for a chance at a reactant, I'm guessing you are going to abandon this midstream because there is no instant gratification. Prove me wrong! There are a handful of prerequisites that you may not be aware of at this point so look up the quests I provided the names of and check out the steps and the prereqs.

I did almost all of this on my troubador this past Sunday, of course I didn't have to go get all the pieces of the draconic alphabet, you only have to do those steps once now, and it was very difficult when it was current content.

It's maybe 30 minutes work including the subquest.

shots01 wrote:

Also having to do two heritage quests that I would otherwise not even bother with...
I saw that the buff is group rapidity and loss of concentration penalty for personae. ........to me this is just not worth the time involved.. Some epics are less powerful than others, but the illusionist means you no longer have to choose between having a pet or buffing your group.

Frankly, the class epics are interesting to me, and I find the NPC dialog worth reading. I know everyone these days is just click-click-click take me to the next step but some quests are interesting. The epics are in that category.

Yes, yes and 1,000 times yes.

Some of the steps are a little bit of a pain but you get the epic and then you go on with Epic Repercussions to get your Mythical - and that is something everybody honestly needs to aim for.

The Illy Mythical lets you cast your personae reflection without concentration - meaning you have 3 more buffs you can give out, and makes rapidity cast on everyone, not just one person.

You also get a lot of illusions that you can change yourself into put in your spellbook, including Antonia and Lucan from an object in Qeynos or Freeport. Always fun to pop up as the Queen.

The main reason though is that concentration saving after you get the mythical.

You are a Freeportian still i hope? Send me a PM here if you need help with any parts and I will see what we can arrange.

no its not worth the time, but you need to have it. best way to get around it is to betray to a coercer do epic (takes like 2hours max) then do epic repercussions then betray back to an illusionist

When you take into account the extra quests you need to do (even if you know them well) it would still be quicker to betray and run the coercer epic then betray back. Everyone thinks betrayal is such a long thing because of the "faction" grind. It's not even close if you look on Wiki and see what your options are. It's acually very quick (but definitly boring and not a challange in any way). The last time I did it (2 days ago) it took me under 1.5 hours to go from Kelethin to Freeport. I ran the entire Freeport questline for my fabled cloak then betrayed back to Kelethin. Took me 36 min (I timed it since someone in my guild didn't belive me) to run the betrayal. This is the 4th character I've done this with since the chestpiece and the cloak were upgrades for them. The only two things that are negative 1) you loose any research you have going on and have to start over even when you betray back. So you get hit twice for changing your profession. 2) having to reset up all your hot bars and aa's. The first time I did it I was in shock at how long it took me to reset all this up. The second, third, and 4th times I got a LOT quicker at it.

Long and short...It would prolly be quicker for him to betray twice; then run the illy questline.

What is this fabled freeport cloak ?

I betrayed kelethin at the start of DOV since my analysis was that fury was a much better designed class than warden (at least for DOV content).

But believe me , friends asked me to stay as a warden, probably because they want to be able to run easy instances with no mana regen ...

So i m on freeport side, planning to betray again to really switch to fury.

But before that it may be a good idea to get this cloak ......

If you do the core story and your class quests you get a pretty nice cloak (maybe raid cloaks are better i don't know - I don't raid).

If you do the class quests (which you will have to do) you also get a nice chestpeice.

http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/City_of_Fre...s%29#Core_Story

For me it was well worth it just for the upgrades...The fact I enjoyed the questline and story is just a bonus.
