View Full Version : Something strange with the new launcher and background downloads

I recently re-installed the game from scratch with the streaming launcher in hopes that it would solve some of the crash bugs I've been having. It didn't for what it's worth, but I did notice another problem.

I downloaded about half of the 14GB on the launcher and then decided to kick off the game client. Once in game, I enabled background downloading.

After re-launching the client over a couple day period, I noticed that the launcher still showed content to download each time I started and that the client would show a full 14GB to download everytime I logged in. Even when I allowed the launcher to complete the entire download, every time I launched the client, it would start to download the entire game again. I don't know where it was putting the 2nd set of files, but I never found anything changing within my game directory and it apparently discarded whatever it had downloaded once I closed the client. I did confirm a steady ~600KB/sec download while in game.

Once I disabled the background download option in game, the in game downloading stopped. Is something out of sync between the new streaming launcher and streaming client? Any chance this is contributing to the memory leaks people are reporting?

On a related note, I don't think the game has ever been as unstable as it's been since AoD launch. I've dealt with the memory leaks before after zoning multiple times over a couple hour session, but I'm having to try 4-5 times to even get logged into the game now and the new launcher is absolutely horrible if you use an authenticator.

I've noticed this too. I had the background download option on, so I don't keep the launcher up. (I am running mine through Steam.)

My client will show the dragon and progression going, and it resets on the launcher and client to about 12GB each time I come back into the game new.

Where are the files going that the client would need to redownload? Or are the files simply being overwritten?

On a side note, when I have kept the launcher up, and logged into another account to multibox on the same system, the session I had up first will just close, leaving me with the newest session up. No error codes, or program not responding - its just closed.

Just a guess, but I think that if you had the streaming launcher before the new one and now try to background download in game it messes up. Has anyone tried a clean install with background downloading and has it working?

I had the same issue was trying to download 12 gig ever time I started the game. Others have the same issue, still not fixed. I ended up downloading full client to get rid of the problem.

I was gone from the game for almost 2 years and returned upon the announcement of F2P to check it out. I had no game files installed, and downloaded a new patcher/launcher through Steam (since I use that for most of my PC games). I don't believe this is a Steam issue as the client and launcher run independently of Steam once launched.
