View Full Version : House Item Graphic - Is this a Bug?

While this really isn't a huge deal in the greater scheme of the game, I was wondering if anyone out there knows if this is a known graphics bug for a particular house item. The item in question is Vigilant Screen. From the screen shot provided by EQ2 Decorators, and this screen shot (also below) from my computer you can see the appearance in the dressing room has an animated effect (water) that does not show when the item is placed in a house. I have checked all my display options in the game and verified the same effect shows up on other house items when placed.

Anyone know if this is a known issue? Is the dressing room appearance perhaps what is incorrect?

I am having the same issue with the Quicksilver Vase. I bought one on the broker because I liked the water effect, but when placed, it doesn't show.

It should be reflective. I assume the reflections option is checked so go ahead and post your DXDIAG information for me so I can see if any recommendations can be made.

Head over to ATI and download the latest drivers for your video card. The set you are using is about 2 years old now. We'll get you up to date first, confirm whether the issue is persisting, and then continue to troubleshoot.

Ok, got the latest driver installed (dated 12/13/2011) and rebooted machine. Verified the problem still exists. Got a nice bump in framerate though . Any further suggestions?

I did not see a setting to explicitly force AA or Anistropic filtering, just checkbox settings to "Use application settings" with were already selected. I've included a screen below of the settings (the very last setting for OpenGL which is cut off is for triple buffering which is disabled). Anyway, after disabling the AI, I relaunched the game and verified the problem still exists.

I have verified on two other computers (same account) that the same problem exists. One is a laptop with an nVida Quadro Cuda and the other is a desktop with an nVidia GeForce GT 520.

Just wanted to chime back in on this - I opened a ticket on this issue a few days ago, and despite all efforts, have yet to fix the issue.

First time, they had me delete my cache directories: cache, asset cache, and login cache, repatch and do a full file scan. That didn't work.

Second time, they had me delete my eq2_recent.ini file and repatch, etc. That didn't work.

Third time, they had me run msconfig on my system and shut down everything running in the background and prevent it from loading on start - including my antivirus (twitch). Did that. Didn't work.

Fourth time, they had me delete the paks and ui folders from my eq2 directory, repatch, etc. That didn't work.

I'm currently waiting to hear back on what to try next.

In the meanwhile, I've asked some friends to come take a look at this item, and another item which has the same graphic, and which is not broken - Mystical Mirror. Each one of them reported the same thing. The Vigilant Screen looks fine in the dressing room window, but is broken when placed. The Mystical Mirror looks fine when placed, although it cannot be viewed in the dressing room window. Both Vigilant Screen and Mystical Mirror share the same rippling water graphic. The only real difference between them is that one is a wall item and the other a floor item, although I wouldn't think this would matter (one never knows).

I'll keep trying what tech support suggests, but honestly, it's really starting to sound like it's a problem with the item. I've yet to find anyone who can see the item, when placed, the way it's supposed to be.

It does appear to be an issue with the item as my testing shows the same thing as your screenshot. Our tech support team, myself included, are not developers so we can only do what we can to help troubleshoot it.

Sometimes it is not apparent where an issue resides right away and you may get suggestions that don't help in the end. It's an unfortunate reality in this type of support but I'll do my best to make sure everyone has all the information they need to properly diagnose and assist you with these types of issues.

Please make sure this got /bug reported as well, those go straight to development and ARE reviewed especially when I personally follow up with a report on the problem too.

Update to my last post.

I was asked to take screenshots and send those in, which I did. This is the picture I sent:

The response to that was the dressing room window is bugged, not the item itself. Apparetly it's not supposed to have that nifty rippling water effect like the other items.

I'll go ahead and /bug it, but if that's the way it's supposed to be, it may be pointless.

Thanks for all your help, Joshua. It can be hard to figure these things out, sometimes.

You're welcome and if that is by design then that's that. I'll make sure to submit some feedback saying it should be a full fledged mirror!

The actual comment was:

"I have been informed the item you are viewing (middle item) is how the item is suppose to show. It appears the dressing room preview is bugged because whenever you preview an item, it will show the items in the background."

One could easily assume the dressing room preview was the actual intent, as that would display what you'd actually see when you placed the item. Not a huge deal to me, although I think a nifty item (and I still think it looks nice) would be even niftier with the ripply water effect (ala Mystical Mirror). If nothing else, fixing the preview would certainly head off any further confusion/disappointment on the matter!
