F2P has done nothing for the game except drive some of the good players off. The only server that is busy 24/7 is the Freeport server and it was already busy 24/7 before they merged it with the Bazaar. SOE has made a lot of bad decisions over the years and going f2p is just another bad decision.

The population of this game is fading fast, most of the servers on the server page are medium to low load when I check. If SOE wants to keep the population that they do have left. They better come up with something better then Mercs and Beastlords.

Guk has mostly showed medium since they made the server status page.

The only reason I logged in this morning was I got a text from a guild mate who said he wanted some help. Only to find he wanted me to pl his beast lord, and to ask why i not shown up for raid since the xpac rolled out.

The funny thing about all this SOE was quick to say we made a 500% increase with DDO like the first week it went free to play. I don't see that statement being made about EQ2. What was the increase if any? I sure don't see it, but then i only logged in 3 times in the past few weeks. The first time was to check out mercs it was really busy the day of the xpac, and I think now the new has worn off. I challenge somkejumper to show up and give us the numbers since we went free to play, I for one would like to know myself.

Vastly overcharging for a largely empty expansion was a great idea.

DDO has a totally different system remember though. There are no item tiers so every item is usable by anyone who can use an item. There are no coin restrictions or baggage restrictions beyond the paltry amount you get anyway.

DDO has almost no proviso for fluff. there are no cloaks, their appearance armour is hilariously poor (you can only apply it to one set of armour). No mounts, no guild hall appearance items.

It also has the advantage that you can play the entire game from level 1 to 20 (max in DDO) without spending a single penny and still be as powerful as anyone else. Alright you need someone to buy passes to dungeons but its still possible. You can also earn TP (their version of SC) in the game.

Its almost impossible to do that in EQ2 - unless you want a seriously lonely life. Nobody is going to want anyone in full MC with only expert spells at level 90.

SOE need to add SC to achievements - you do a 5 point achievement - you get 5 SC. That way you can at least have a chance at getting gear without it costing the earth.

They need someone working for them that can do some critical thinking about consequences. For example, I was hoping to get my brother back to playing eq2 some of the time since it was now f2p. He played eq1 and eq2 early on. After the first email from SOE.. he logged in and all of his characters were locked. So he logged back out. Then he got the email that they had changed it, so he logged back in. On the one character he was most likely to play, he accidently clicked ok when the "unattune" window popped up. So his main toon was now without armor. He couldn't re-equip it. He logged back out.

Before people jump in with "yada yada yada, could unlock armor, could do this, could do that".... if you are trying to get people to chose this game over another or even in addition to another...you need it to be friendly f2p. You don't need it to be *snicker...ha ha...gotcha* f2p. They need to look at how lotro does f2p. Everyone I've tried to get to play again looks at the restrictions...and then says meh....no. This f2p just nickles and dimes you to death.

I'm still paying the subscription because I don't like restrictions. If I quit subbing for any reason, I don't see myself using f2p with the current model, even though it would be silver level.
