It's only visible when I press F10 but the window is always there. What is it and how do I get rid of it?

It's because you're using the Streaming launcher, and it's downloading game data. You'll need to use the Full Assets launcher to get rid of it.

The major difference between the two launchers is that the Full Assets launcher requires you download all new files before you play. The Streaming Launcher downloads files while you play.

See the stickied post at the top of this forum for links.

Hope this helped!

Thanks for the info, but that did not help me. I tried installing the full launcher and the dragon is still there.

May be a graphics artifact then. The dragon isn't supposed to be there in the full client, but then I never looked in either F10 mode to see if it was. The fact that you only see it when you press F10 is what makes me think that. I'll try to remember to look for that the next time I play.

Game Options/Streaming you can uncheck box and apply to turn off background downloading. This Should get rid of the dragon and the download status with it.

The whole point here is that the dragon is appearing here in the full client, not the streaming client.

I have the dragon walking on my screen nearly all the time, and poor performance since the expansion release.

I redownloaded the non-streaming launcher from the link a few times now, following the pasted instructions.

I seem to always be stuck at framerates lower than before the expansion and I see one of my pc cores is constantly stuck at full operating capacity, even if I just park my character in a corner.

My next step would be to just wipe away everything Sony (no no, not rage rage quit, lol) and reinstall the non-streaming launcher and and wait out the download of the entire game.

Any other suggestions first?

Feel free to repost the performance portion of your issue under the Performance support forum.

The streaming issues are being looked in to but make sure you are checking that Background Download option under the streaming tab in the in-game options like the poster above mentioned.

You are more than welcome to contact our support staff directly as well and we'll walk you through weeding out the issue.

Non-streaming client, "Background Downloading" under options is unchecked, and the dragon is there when I hit F-10. I happened to find it because I had trouble clicking on a window - the dragon was in front of it (though not visible until I hit F-10).

THAT explains why I'm having so many issues mousing over and seeing my debuffs. That darned dragon was in the way!

The dragon is a UI element just like any other window in the game. Its there even if its not pre-loading but shouldn't be visible without going through the F10 modes. The UI element exists regardless of what method of patching you use as its part of the default UI. Should be right next to the minimap and if you are using the full download version you can just drag it elsewhere, and out of the way, at your leisure.

I'm waiting on sorting this out, until things stablize. I've seen less and less crashes and somewhat better performance than I did right after the expansion release. I still see a hit in performance, but I have an older system and I'm guessing the new additions to the game may be programmed differently and harder for my system to handle. I'm going to hold off for now.

Its included in the default UI regardless of which patcher you are using as the game is independent of your patch method.

I have posted about this in a new topic but it seems to be related to the issues here: mainly that my client mysteriously changed from the full DL ( I NEVER used the strreaming one) to the stremaing client of its own volition after the Jan 10th update. I had this dragon thing as well and i have NEVER seen it before this update.

The game was totally unplayable for me- (when it worked) could not zone or even move without a freeze every 10 seconds.

I have reinstalled the FULL ASSET launcher as well as re copied all my game files from a backup iin DEC also created using the FULL client. The problem is that the launcher still thinks my game is the streaming client version and not the full asset one and so the client crashes immediately after the EQ2 spalsh screen and scrolling update window appears.

Is there any way to get the game and the launcher bak on the same version of the game please without having to re download the entire 14 Gb of game files? My ADSL speed and bandwidth make this a nightmare to do.

Everything I have tried has failed.

Thanks for your help

HKz

This is the alert log there are no other crash logs that I can find rlated to this incident

build="SOEBuild=8405L" version="SOEVersionString=2012/1/9 14:14:25" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="<None>" loc=" 0.00 0.00 0.00" performance="3" alert="G:liveeq2frameworkcoreutilPakLibrary.cpp(517): PakLibrary::Create: Failed to open "assetslib.vpl" for writing"build="SOEBuild=8405L" version="SOEVersionString=2012/1/9 14:14:25" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="<None>" loc=" 0.00 0.00 0.00" performance="3" alert="G:liveeq2frameworkcoredevicesDirectX9RenderDevice. cpp(18467): sRestoreGammaRamp(): Gamma ramps are not saved"build="SOEBuild=8405L" version="SOEVersionString=2012/1/9 14:14:25" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="<None>" loc=" 0.00 0.00 0.00" performance="3" alert="G:liveeq2frameworkcoreutilPakLibrary.cpp(517): PakLibrary::Create: Failed to open "assetslib.vpl" for writing"build="SOEBuild=8405L" version="SOEVersionString=2012/1/9 14:14:25" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="<None>" loc=" 0.00 0.00 0.00" performance="3" alert="G:liveeq2frameworkcoredevicesDirectX9RenderDevice. cpp(18467): sRestoreGammaRamp(): Gamma ramps are not saved"build="SOEBuild=8405L" version="SOEVersionString=2012/1/9 14:14:25" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="<None>" loc=" 0.00 0.00 0.00" performance="3" alert="G:liveeq2frameworkcoreutilPakLibrary.cpp(517): PakLibrary::Create: Failed to open "assetslib.vpl" for writing"build="SOEBuild=8405L" version="SOEVersionString=2012/1/9 14:14:25" build_type="USER OPTIMIZED" ls_address="none" zone="<None>" loc=" 0.00 0.00 0.00" performance="3" alert="G:liveeq2frameworkcoredevicesDirectX9RenderDevice. cpp(18467): sRestoreGammaRamp(): Gamma ramps are not saved"
