View Full Version : Shader 3.0 and frame rates?

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I’ve noticed that the frame rate has dropped since the last patch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>In the past, I had all settings maxed out, and rarely had frame rates drop below 20.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Now, I go into my home, and my frame rate is down to 3!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>New Halas is down in the low teens.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Nothing has changed on my computer, though I did update my video driver after noticing the frame rate drop, but the video update didn’t solve the problem.</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I’ve noticed that my trade skill apprentice clothing looks different.</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Is this a side effect of SHADER 3.0 being disabled on the Tuesday Dec 20 Patch?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>I’m hoping I don’t have to dumb down my graphics quality because of lack of SHADER 3.0.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>If I do have to lower my graphics quality, what settings would have the biggest impact now that SHADER 3.0 is no longer available?</span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;">Thanks</span></p>

<p>Since being forced to revert back to the old Shader1.0 I have had a significant drop in performance/framerate.</p>

<p>I found a setting that restored my framerates.</p><p>Options/Display/Shadows/Shadowtype: set to GPU shadow maps.</p><p>For some reason it was set to CPU Shadow Maps.</p><p>Now my Extreme Quality at 2560x1600 has decent framerates, rarely dropping below 20.</p>

<p>Took a FPS and quality hit as well.</p><p>Colors are all wrong, shadows, specular effects, etc.</p><p>Sure glad they force disabled S3 for all of us 'cause a handful of people were crashing in some backwoods area of Velious because of it.</p><p><img src="/eq2/images/smilies/2786c5c8e1a8be796fb2f726cca5a0fe.gif" border="0" /></p>
