I'm being told by tech support (Incident ref 111216-001258) that the reason I can't connect with the new launcher is that I've got EQ2 installed somewhere other than the default location.

This makes no sense to me. Surely you guys did not implement your program in such a way that it can only be installed in one place? Can I get someone who knows what they're talking about to confirm one way or the other?

Powers &8^]

Looks like I have the same problem. From when I first installed EQ2, seven years ago, I've *always* had the game on another hard-disk and *not* on the C: part of my computer - for a variety of reasons.

Up till now, there was never a problem with updating and playing, or with connecting to the game.

Now, suddenly, I can't connect, I can't install the new launcher - unless I re-install the entire game on the C: disk - I can't play.

What the hell? >.>

Not that I expect to hear from anyone 'official' on this... seeing how most of the other questions about the new launcher have remained without responses...

A reply like that from tech support makes no sense. When LP4 became the new standard, I downloaded the latest installer, ran it, and set the install path to the existing location of C:GamesSOEEverQuest II. It installed the new LaunchPad, twiddled a few other files, and that was the end of it. I have run that setup ever since. I did have problems on one system which went away when I found and deleted all traces of EQ2.exe so nothing could try to launch the game with that again.

You should be sure that there are no stray bits in any location other than your EQII folder. I recently did a purge of my systems and found obsolete LaunchPad files in multiple locations. I don't know if these were from failed installations, other SOE games I tried, or what. I didn't ask.

As long as the current version of LaunchPad is installed in your EQII folder and you use only that to launch the game, it should work from just about anywhere.
