Well, as the day slowly grinds on, I was going to do a backstory for my character.

But I want to make sure I'm realistic with my dates here.. According to this page:

http://lorenorrath.free.fr/timeline.php

In 5951 the Shattering took place - then EQ2 Started 9 years later in 5960 - that's correct?

Then one last question/request - what would be the current year in EQ2 then? I get kinda confused with the AN/AG and /time

Any other good timelines or a resouce that explains this?

Anyone that tries to give you exact dates for anything in EQ2 that isn't specifically mentioned in a book is just guessing.

From what we've been told the Shattering occured anywhere from 50-30 years before EQ2 launched.

As for the current date...it varies wildly between servers. In-game years occure perty rapidly according to the /time command. However, from a lore perspective the best way to keep time is using real time years and expansion release dates. Events that take place at one expansion are referenced in later expansions as occuring a good deal of time before, generally aproximately a year or at least several months before.

This trend may not be followed in future content, especially in Velious as it is a continuation of the last expansion's story line. It wouldn't make sense for you to take a year long break between fighting Rallos Zek and going to Western Wastes (or whatever it will be called in EQ2).

Up at the top of this forum is a timeline for EQ2. It is probably the most accurate timeline available to players. Seriously, trying to apply dates to the events in EQ2 is a total waste of time. The best you can do is ballpark the seperation between events. The devs do this on purpose so they cut down on the number of glaring inconsistancies they create over time.

The developers confirmed that the shattering took place 50 years before the start of the game, and the debris stopped falling 15 years before the start of the game. In-game dates vary from server to server, zone to zone, and character to character. So far, there has only been one reference to actual time passing, and that was during an event that celebrated that it had been 2 years since the Gods had returned to Norrath (during the Echoes of Faydwer expansion pack).

Yep! As I've said before, I use this system: If EverQuest 2 began in (roughly) 3721 in ingame time, then 2011 is 3727, and 2012 will be 3728. The months from that in-game book, The Norrathian Code of Trade Standards, can also be used:

Month 1. DEEPICE: This month exists within the peak of the Decay seasonMonth 2. GRAYEVEN: This month exists within the late Decay season.Month 3. STARGAZING: This month exists within the early Growth season.Month 4. WEEPING: This month exists within middle of the Growth season.Month 5. BLOSSOMING: This month exists within the peak of the Growth season.Month 6. OCEANSFULL: This month exists within the late Growth season.Month 7. SCORCHEDSKY: This month exists within the early Harvest season.Month 8. WARMSTILL: This month exists within middle of the Harvest season.Month 9. BUSHELDOWN: This month exists within peak of the Harvest season.Month 10. LASTLEAF: This month exists within the late Harvest season.Month 11. FIRSTCHILL: This month exists within the early Decay season.Month 12. DEADENING: This month exists within the middle of the Decay season.

Translation: Month 1: January. Month 2: February. And so on, and so forth. And all the months, I believe, pretty much have the same number of days as they do in real life, just not in weeks, since each week has ten days. It's mostly a pick and choose sort of thing, unless you actually want to take the time to design a whole calendar and equate it to an RL calendar.

Nah, Norrath doesn't have a 365 day calendar. I can't really provide where I read it, but I remember seeing something akin to each month having the same number of weeks without any exception. Pretty much each month has the same number of days.

Some people that I know stretch it a bit to make it fit, usually by dropping three days.
