I'm a new player trying to get a handle on specific mechanics so I have a million questions, but I think I should start with a specific set of alternative choices: Third tier Beserker Warrior AAs. I'm setting aside the varying utility and damage of the different combat art openers as well as the fourth and fifth tier AAs because for now I'm just trying to get answers on mechanics. So, ten points will get you:

22.0 crit (is this a percent? a rating? what exactly do crits do? do combat arts crit?)

25% double attack (can the extra attack crit? can it miss? is it basically a 25% increase to my autoattack damage? do my combat arts get doubled?)

24.0 DPS (is this as puny as it looks? do dps increases affect combat arts? is there a way to have a vague idea of what my overall DPS is, to see how big of an effect this is?)

18.0 attack speed (this can't be seconds, so it is a percent? a rating? does decreasing delay decrease proc-per-hit chance on specials to leave procs-per-minute unchanged? how does this interact with the dual-wield speed penalty?)

These AAs all do the same thing (passively increase auto-attack damage), so one of them is better than the rest. Gimme a hand if you can, number crunchers!

Also, reading these forums it seems like auto-attack makes up a huge part of my DPS (and in practice, it's where all my big hits seem to come from). Does using combat arts affect my auto swings in any way aside from buffs/bebuffs? Am I lowering my dps when I cast my (weak as hell) rupture?

I would strongly urge you to ask in the Berserker forums, as you'll get much more focused answers there.

Crit affects everything (hate, heal , damage). But tank heal cannot crit. The crit formula depends on the ability it depends on the native crit bonus of the ability. Later you will get crit bonus that will increase the amplitude of your crits. If i m correct weapon with a large damage scale (like 1-1000) are better with a high crit than smooth weapons (like 500-500). See the tank forum for formulae.

25% DA mean on average 1.25 attack, it affects only auto attack and i don't think it affect usual proc since proc do happen at a given frequency that can only be modified by some bufs (probably by bard, templar, mystics and may be others). Some specific proc that do happen on each hit (like stampede) may be affected.

24 dps is roughly +24% to your auto attack i don't know the exact formula. So it increase the damage of your weapon (i believe). There is a cap on it. Hitting the cap is quite likely when grouped with a coercer or an inquisitor. I would tend to thing that this multiplications is performed last but i m not sure (it does not always commute since you have additions and multiplications)

Haste (attack speed) just reduce the delay of your weapon. There is a cap on it. Proc based on frequency won't happen more but those which hapen on any hit will.

I usually go for crit first since this do apply to anything (but to heals in your case). High crit will mean more hate generated by taunts and combat arts.

If that result is lower than the maximum damage you could do +1 without critting, it is increased to that amount. This is why weapons with a high spread (max damage divided by min damage) do more damage than those with a low spread.

Yes, combat arts crit.

25% double attack (can the extra attack crit? can it miss? is it basically a 25% increase to my autoattack damage? do my combat arts get doubled?)

Yes, the extra attack can crit and miss. Only autoattack is affected by this stat, combat arts are not. This stat is actually called multiattack (MA) now.

24.0 DPS (is this as puny as it looks? do dps increases affect combat arts? is there a way to have a vague idea of what my overall DPS is, to see how big of an effect this is?)

This is a rating. 24.0 DPS mod increases your autoattack damage by about 27%. You can see the exact percentage in the tooltip when you hover over this stat in your persona window.

18.0 attack speed (this can't be seconds, so it is a percent? a rating? does decreasing delay decrease proc-per-hit chance on specials to leave procs-per-minute unchanged? how does this interact with the dual-wield speed penalty?)

This is similar to DPS mod, except that it increases how fast you swing your weapon. 100% faster means you swing twice as often in a certain time.

These AAs all do the same thing (passively increase auto-attack damage), so one of them is better than the rest. Gimme a hand if you can, number crunchers!

Generally, increasing crit chance and multiattack give the largest increase in damage.

If you are casting a combat art at a time when you would normally do an autoattack, that autoattack is delayed until you are done casting the combat art. So try to use your combat arts betwen autoattacks.
