If you're buying a new PC, even if XP was an option I would avoid it - it won't be supported much longer and Win 7 is atleast as good as XP (was).

Avoid Vista at all costs!

Oh yes, if I had a choice between Win7 and Vista - I wouldn't hesitate for a second to go with Win7. Vista was a bad joke..

Vista worked if you understood how to configure it, windows 7 is back to the no tech knowledge needed to use it level of windows xp. Although a lot of the tricks learned by users on vista are good habits to have even in windows 7

Vista is no longer offered, which is a GOOD thing. Win7 is far far superior. The file system and general guts are the same, but all the horrible interface mistakes in Vista were corrected in Win7. System requirements are basically the same. If it ran Vista it can run Win7.

XP is now obsolete. It was a great OS and carried me past Vista (whistling as I went), but I now run Win7 wherever possible.
