Yesterday I started having an issue with the new launchpad. When I start up the game, the launchpad gives the following error message:

"Error: There was a problem getting the list of files for download. An update may be in progress. Please try again in 20-30 minutes." This happens before the launchpad even loads.

I have three computers on my network: two desktop PCs and one laptop. The laptop is new, with a new installation of EQ2 on it. The game is running fine on both desktop machines, but the laptop gives this error message every time.

I've tried disabling the Windows firewall, and there's currently no other anti-virus software on the laptop. The laptop uses Windows 7, and I've made sure that EQ2 is running as Admin. (The desktop PCs run WinXP.)

The laptop is wireless-ready, but I'm using a wired network right now.

I don't think I understand how to do a direct connection. I have a four-port router, but no separate modem. What I have is a line-splitter plugged into the phone jack, then the router plugged into the splitter, and the computers into the router. There doesn't seem to be any way to make a more direct connection as none of the connectors fit.

Yup, it is installed to C:UsersPublic.

ETA: This morning I uninstalled the game completely to try a fresh reinstall off the launcher, but the same thing is happening. I can install the launchpad just fine, but get the same error message when it starts trying to check for download material.

OK, I've found that if I run the launcher with Win XP SP2 compatibility settings, it works fine. So there's some Win 7 setting I can't figure out that is causing that issue.

Suppose I should have thought of that earlier, but this is my first experience with Win 7 and I totally forgot to try it.

I had this same problem on my EQ2 install just yesterday. Changed absolutely nothing on my machine or network and all of a sudden one machine with an eq2 install just wouldn't patch. Others in the same house would just fine. After spending all night trying to track down the problem, it turned out that *somehow* a signature file that the patcher uses to check files during the update process was corrupted. I resolved my issue by deleting the signature file (stored in the appdata folder of your particular setup) and running the launcher. After a very long full file scan all was well.

The problem file in my case was found by looking at this in notepad:

%APPDATA%Sony Online EntertainmentDigestsEverQuest IIEverQuest II.err

It then told me which file in that same directory needs to be deleted. I would recommend simply renaming the file to, eq2-en-full.sha.upToDate.soe.bak

Run the patcher a few times (I did to be sure).
