I've got the same *application ran out of memory* error as everyone else, I've tried the force_low_memory_mode thing, i've tried the /3GB thing and I've tried running with extreme performance options, but I still get that dang error within *seconds*. I kid you not, within 15-25 seconds I get kicked out on my butt. I've played on and off since beta and I'm hoping there is a solution somewhere. I'm running winxp SP3, P4 2.26, 1gig ram, ATI radeon 9600 256 vram, not the most powerful rig but it should be fine, right?

I know we are all desperate here. But I have been using lp4 to update, closing it down and launching from eq2.exe , if i avoid the guildhall i can play but over time it gets slower to zone etc. I was totally locking up my system so either this helps or soe did some adjusting on Fri.. not a techy type so this is my make do.

I also have 1g ram and have been playing since eq2 went live. I cannot even log in to my characters in FFS since the patch. I get out of memory crash before I get to the game screen. I have turned every graphic I know about to the lowest level possible.

I submitted a ticket yesterday 111209-002015 (including all my dxdiag) and this is part of the response I got this morning.

Another important thing to know is that if you are a bronze or silver member, your subscription tier is qualified for knowledgebase support only.

Any suggestions for us silver members? I really do not want to upgrade to gold at this time just for someone to then look at my ticket and say I can't play eq2 with my current hardware.

PS - After seeing JoshuaM online every time I have checked the forums over the last three days I am convinced that he is A) getting no sleep, B) needs no sleep, or C) is running TSR mode with the /nosleep parm enabled. I appreciate your efforts to help us sir.

The policy is that FREE and Silver members only receive support for real money transaction based issues only. I don't check every poster's membership level before providing a support response it would be far too time consuming for the forums. Best advice I can give you is to click the advanced toggle in your display options and begin lowering more settings for better performance. Disable any background applications and even close the LaunchPad.

I saw a world of difference when I went from 1Gig to 1.5Gig of RAM on my system some time ago. That solved the Out of Memory and the bulk of the stuttering issues I had when I walked around. Now, I'm getting the Out of Memory errors going into my House again because the game itself with all the new features takes up more memory so there's less room for stuff in my house to load into. Until they add options to classify house items so you can tell what types to load when going into a GH or House, your best option is to add more RAM to make it 1.5Gig or 2.0Gig. For my old system, the only place I can find memory of my type is here: http://www.memorysuppliers.com/rambuskits.html I've suggested it, but it would be great if items were classed at a minimum as: Non-interactive: normal furniture and items that just sit there and do nothing extra. Interactive: Items that do something like NPCs, Portals, Workstations, Marketboard, Harvest Depot, Spell casters, and so on. Another problem with this new update is that Frostfang Sea is now loaded up with people starting Beastlords and all those extra people running around uses up more memory. All the Frostfell decorations in the zone also raises the memory used from the standard amount. Other than raising system RAM, you could try playing at a lower screen resolution like 1024x768 instead of 1280x1024 or whatever.

Thanks for the relpies all, so far nothing is working but I live in hope. I've set everything as low as possible, and I'm talking *everything*, but it still lasts seconds. I'm sure ram would help, but its a little out of reach right now. =P

Barely like you I am sitting tight, don't really expect to see any changes til this week. After the past couple weeks employees have had they must be getting a break. Come back fresh this week and work your magic. I did use another computer, much better than mine, to move my needed characters out of hall and housing, so have been able to play. I can only use the old world methods of travel, no guild shortcuts. A true walk down memory lane in more ways than one. I am enjoying Frostfell, and appreciate all the work thats has been going on so tirelessly for us.

After playing EQ2 for 6 years with no memory problem, I had one trying to zone into my GH the other day. Note, I have been in and out of GH after the new expansion and udate with no problems.

The difference is that I had begun to claim 7-year veteran rewards, and populate the "mansions" with my new crafter apprentices and a moving crate. I was also using a newly installed GH portal to members homes, and what seems to be the included portal for the Mistmoor Estates (option when leaving of going to another house or onto street).

I had actually made the trip back to the estate several times (making things for the apprentices with different characters), and finally ran out of memory zoning back into GH after going from estate, to SQ, to GH in SQ, and then trying to zone.

I had also used Call to Guild recently on that character. Our GH is chock full of stuff (way more objects than nominally allowed due to the ones that "don't count". With only about 2-4 empty spaces left.

Hope this helps with the problem.

I understand about MMOs and memory, taking a love-ton of it is in their nature. But this is an old, old problem, are the devs actually looking at it and working on a fix?

JoshuaM, you're a legend, keep up the good work.

Memory management is always included in the devs teams methodology. Optimizations are made on a weekly basis but it can't always eliminate the cumulative 'culprit' which is the ever increasing potential for your game to request more memory than you still have available. No matter what, on a 32bit system, you will run out of memory eventually be it through very long play sessions or by visiting multiple intensive zones like a fully decorated GH or house.

I understand that and all, but getting kicked out of the game seems pretty harsh. Warcraft never kicked me like this, Lotro either. Don't get me wrong, I'm not angry, I'm not complaining, I'm just a little disappointed that I can't start a fight without fear of being kicked and killed.

From my experience, I think the "application ran out memory resquesting xxx bytes" arises in low-memory situations where pagefile swaps happen so much that vitual memory can't keep up. My oldest running system started with 512MB RAM and began to have this issue a lot. I upgraded to 1MB RAM and the crashing stopped. So did the endless disk thrashing.

I haven't tried to play on that system in over a year now. I simply do not believe that it is reasonable to try to run the current release of EQ2 with 1GB RAM.

I understand the financial issues because I live on a small fixed income. I also have to accept the fact that the last three systems I bought (in 2000, 2002 and 200 were to keep up with changes in EQ2.

The devs can opimize the code all they want, but it will not completely stop Windows from choking sometimes.

-= Therendil =-

I guess thats just the nature of the game, as they say. No use moaning about it, just time to move on. kinda wish I hadn't subbed a month though. =P

It is a real shame if you've hit the wall here and just can't run the game any more. I've had to make my share of the same decisions, so I sympathize. Unfortunately, it is the nature of the beast, and not just for EQII.

-= Therendil =-
