Most of the features of AoD didn't interest me so I had a hard time justifying the investment. But, since 90% of my play is solo, the idea of hiring a mercenary intrigued me. So I bit the bullet and broke the piggy bank.

There was a Paladin loitering outside the tavern in Qeynos Harbor when my 90 Illy strode up to the door. I sized him up, paid his hire and took him in tow off to Chardok.

There were some things to work out between us in the first few fights, but we settled down to it and fought our way all the way to the back of the palace where I had some "business" with the Queen to attend to.

All in all, Jeremy Proudhilt, you did a fine job and there'll be a little something extra for your purse this week.

Wasc $40 too much to pay for mercenaries? Yes. But I've been playing EQ1 and EQ2 since launch and expect to continue playing till they unplug the servers...or my life support machines It'll pay for itself over time.

It is a great expansion.

I think they need to tune it a bit.

1. - More mercs of different races and gender or a means to choose them through full customizations.

2. - Mercs in all cities instead of just the two.

3. - Fix the follow of not just merc but pets. They go crazy 90% of the time and it is driving me nuts to watch my pet or merc bounce all over the screen.

Personally, I'm having a difficult time deciding whether or not to shell out 40+ dollars for it. It seems rather light in actual content to justify the price tag for me. Part of that is my own fault though as I have no interest in playing a pet class, even if I can tame my own pet. The extra AA holds no great sense of wonder for me either, so its a matter of that excellent dungeon builder and the tradeskill apprentices. I'd love to have them, but I just can't see spending money on an xpac that already seemed content light to me, and adding to it that I'd only use two small little parts of it...maybe. I'm glad to hear and see that so many other folks are loving it though, and I'm even more glad that SOE saw fit to allow me not to purchase it without missing out on progression. I love that its optional.

After playing with it, I'd have paid 40 bucks for the Beastlord alone. Yes...he is overpowered, but so what...its a fun class to play. Plus, watching my Ratonga Beastlord riding a wolf while being followed by a warder warboar named BossHog just makes me laugh.

Raf

I'm with Gorpier, I'm still on the fence about purchasing it. None of my classes really need 20 extra AA, and I don't have an interest in the Beastlord class yet (I'm waiting to see how hard and fast the nerf bats fly, plus - I'm more of a healer class player).

The mercenary feature would be nice to play with, but I don't solo much, and reforging looks greats. But - I'm having a hard time justifying 40 dollars for the one and a half features I would really use from this expansion, especially since its the holiday season - I have a pretty large family to buy gifts for.

AoD is already down to $32 on Amazon, so there's no reason to pay $40 for it.

Zepor wrote:

AoD is already down to $32 on Amazon, so there's no reason to pay $40 for it.

True, though you could pay even less for it - 30$. Two Wal-Mart station cash cards (1500 each, plus 1000 total bonus SC - 4000 SC.). It still doesn't nullify the cost versus reward issue that some players are having a hard time justifying. Even the old Adventure Packs EQ2 used to release had more content in them - like, Splitpaw. Splitpaw was, I believe, 8 dollars, and had ~10 new dungeons and introduced two new mechanics to the game - scaled dungeons and movable/breakable objects within dungeons.

Granted, AoD has a new mechanic, and a new class - but by their own pricing scheme, a class is only worth 7.50$USD. Maybe 20.00$ USD, if it were priced similarly to the Freebloods.

Either way or price, some of us just can't justify spending that much for so little during the holiday season.
