Let me first say, I've never had any problems of this sort since I started EQ2 at launch. Since AoD I can no longer enter my guild hall or I crash. Tech support suggested deleting a bunch of files such as "cashe, eq2_recent, eq2_default" which I did. However, when I repatched nothing new downloaded. I still cannot enter my guild hall.

I have XP 32bit. I bought Windows 7 to upgrade to a 64 bit operating system. I can't even get in the game with that. I just get that way old school patcher that tries to connect me to...well, i don't even know what it is. It looks like the patcher from 7 yrs ago.

How in the world can an "expansion" completely wreck the fact that I could play beautifully on XP32? Blame Microsoft all you want, there is really no excuse for this. At the very least a disclaimer stating that your XP operating system would not work would have been nice.

I just cannot express my frustration enough. I'm not a techie, but I'm pretty darn good with computers. This is just beyond my level of tolerance. No other game requires you to be some kind of programmer to get an expansion to play. Sony can say all it wants that they changed no code that involved memory allocation and that it is XP32's fault, I'm not buying it. There is a definate memory allocation problem that was introduced with AoD.

Just disgusted in Denver, and needed to vent.

~Whyllo

p.s. It would have been helpful if when the new launcher went live it didn't give me 2 new shortcuts to launch the game from. I don't even know which one I should be using at this point!

p.s.s. Seriously? D A M N is censored? Good grief

By the way. I can play all night on my old 32bitXP as long as I don't log into my house or Guild Hall. Edit Button much of a problem? Well, I'll leave that up to the "programmers".

Hery Josh,

Sorry. Didn't mean for the sarcasm to sound so mean. Just frustrated. Good idea about posting in a more appropriate forum. It's just that I know you read these tech threads...I don't know if anyone is reading all the others. Thank you for your attentiveness to your forum. I really appreciate the response.

I bought a new hard drive. I bought Windows 7. I installed W7.

I loaded my last hard copy of EQ which was Sentinals Fate (since then i've done all digital downloads). I errored out multiple times on a weird Launchpad. Sometimes it looked like the old school one, and once it looked like the stopwatch.

I uninstalled SF and then pulled my old files over to new Windows 7 environment. No go.

I can still get in when I boot to the old XP drive however. And I can play apparently without trouble (like 3hrs so far). If I zone to Guild Hall however, I will crash with critical out of memory errors. EQ is requesting X mem, and not available er something like that.

Does any of that make any sense? I just can't figure it out. Why before AoD I was good as gold, and now I can't access my GH or houses. Seriously, I wonder about that new "edit button" that comes up in houses. It's my belief that it is the "dark lord" come to destroy XP32.

Sunshine and Shade,

Whyllo

I don't think its the button itself but there could be better memory management in locations with thousands of objects like a home or guild hall, it's been reported but its a 2 sided issue (OS memory management for 32bit systems as well as how our client software handles it, both of which are above my head).

The retail discs have some issues and depending on where you copied the old files to they may also present some permission issues.

We have links to our latest LaunchPad 4 directly and we use the C:UsersPublic folder as our default install path, I do recommend moving your EQII folder there. Our Full Assets launchpad scans for your gamefiles in the Everquest IIPAKS folder while our Streaming LaunchPad will look for the previous streaming assets in the Everquest IIAssetCache folder. If you already have either of those folders with your old files, just toss it in to the new install and the LP will skip over any intact files. Make sure you are selecting the correct installer, I'm fairly sure you'll want the Full Assets installer.

LP4 Installers - http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=509747

I will try these suggestions in the a.m. when I am fresh. (earlier frustrations drove me to the pub for a couple beers)

Thank you for the constructive direction. It is much appreciated. If nothing else, I don't feel quite so alone

Sorry, for the earlier tone of my post.

~Whyllo

What I've done on my system is to run the LaunchPad to patch the game if needed and then close LaunchPad to make sure its processes are gone. Then, I manually start EverQuest2.exe to start the game. Right now my House pushes my system to its limit with around 333 placed items (I only have 1.5GB on Windows XP Home/SP3). If I've played in few zones before going into my House I'll crash with Out of Memory. If it's the first thing I do, then I'm OK. I think the new features such as the Dungeon Maker, Reforger, Tradeskill Apprentice, and so on have made the core game take up more memory than before.. which leaves less memory for all those House Items to load into. I remember when I could zone into a GH that had 1000 items in it with 1Gig of RAM. Now, not even close to that.

Thought I'd give an update on my memory crashing errors.

After buying and installing Windows7 I completely redownloaded the game. Took about a day. Followed tech-Josh's instructions about where to put the EQ Launcher file and his other suggestions and I can now play just fine.

Thank you tech-Josh. By the way you have the patience of Job.

Of course, I am now a happy camper, but the fact that the expansion so broke the game for those of us on XP32 is unchanged. I wonder if the minimum requirements for the game shouldn't be changed. Is anyone still able to play well on XP32? At least a disclaimer would have been appropriate, "if you use XP32 you will experience utter frustration and very little game play" ok ok, that's just my sarcasm sneeking in.

Seriously though, I would have upgraded my operating system well before the launch had I known that XP32 would basically be such a flub. I at least wouldn't have had such a stress filled couple of days, and perhaps it would have eliminated the anger that so many of us have had over this expansion and the multiple "memory errors" threads that are now being dealt with.

Anyway, thanks again tech-Josh. Your ability to ignore anger, sarcasm, and just plain frustration, and still give good advice and constructive instruction shows your dedication and professionalism. I hope your management appreciates what you have done and rewards you accordingly.

~Whyllo
