First off, I realize this is probably a proxy issue on "my" side, but this isn't necessarily a connection issue, but behaves like one, so I thought I'd post and see if anyone has ideas.

Setup: I removed everything about EQ2 today from my machine and started over, so I'll be using the new LaunchPad against the new EQ2 merged install.

When I start LaunchPad, I get the following dialog, that just sits there forever.

<Well, it seems the image counts against my post size, let's just say it's the standard windows dialog with LaunchPad in the title bar, the word Processing, and a progress meter that doesn't move>

At any point, I can click Cancel, which then brings up the LaunchPad UI, which starts to patch EverQuestII files to my system. Unfortunately, it stops patching at about 90% done. Stopping and starting the patcher doesn't help, and it's always the same files being downloaded when it fails (from the Advanced Settings/Updated File List):

Checking game installation...Found 82 file(s) to update.Replacing UI/Default/images/frontend/splash_logos.ddsCreating LaunchPad.libs/Pages/images/bg.jpg

So it would seem I have two issues that may/may not be related:

1. Why doesn't the LaunchPad patch-itself process complete correctly?

2. What's up with those 2 files that causes the patching to stop?

For 1, I don't know what it could be except a connection issue. Can someone please tell me what URLs it's trying to hit, so I can test if I can hit them from a browser, etc.? Thanks

For 2, I think one of the 2 files is being quarantined by my company's proxy. This has happened before with another game (a web-based one), but the error was different, in that it actually threw an ERROR, instead of just halting and spinning. Does anyone know what the URL for downloading that file directly would be, so I can test that I can hit it with a browser? One note, I tried installing that file from my home machine (which is able to patch fine) directly into the location specified, then re-patching, with no success. For some reason, it keeps thinking it needs to patch that file.

Any help would be appreciated. For now, I'm unable to login from work, which is fairly inconvenient.

Thanks

The digestURL is listed in your Launchpad.ini

Thanks for the reply. I'm able to download that file just fine (the ...sha.soe), but really I already knew that, as the patcher DOES try to patch files, so first it has to find out what files to patch.

I'm wondering if, when downloading the file, our companies virus-blocking proxy is quarantining the file, disallowing the patcher from receiving it (assuming LaunchPad use HTTP to retrieve these files, which may not be the case). A direct URL for the file(s) in question would be what I need to test that, and I don't see how to get that from a sha-encoded manifest that I don't know how to decode.

Are the two files listed available for direct download via HTTP from a CDM somewhere? If so, those are the URLs I need to try.

TIA, if you have more help to offer.

Partial fix: Turns out the initial LaunchPad patching problem was the fact that it wasn't run as Administrator. Not sure why it would need to be, but there you go.

Still can't finish patching the initial 800MB for the streaming game, however, still has problems with those two files. At least, those are the two that are showing in the Advanced Settings log.

Hmmm! Looking further, I see that DownloadInfo.txt has the following (note that I deleted the file just before this latest test, so it only has text from this one test):

**** Starting at Fri Dec 09 13:29:41 2011 with plug-in 1.0.3.158 ****1b18-00:00:00:*Error: UnableToDownload - HTTP::Exception::UnhandledResponse: Not Found (404 - 64.37.129.51) - http://manifest.patch.station.sony..../lp-eq2-ext.soe

Now, why would it have trouble downloading that file, when I can easily retrieve it using my browser (not that I can read it, mind you, it's gobbledygook)?

Instead of running as admin, I would recommend moving it out of a protected folder. Relocate the EQII folder to the C:UsersPublic path.

Should resolve a good amount of issues that way.

Turns out, the reason it started "working" at least for part 1 above, is that the:

digestURL=http://manifest.patch.station.sony.com/patch/sha/manifest/launchpad/lp4/live/lp-eq2-ext.sha.soe

line in the launchpad.ini had changed to NOT have the .sha in it, becoming:

digestURL=http://manifest.patch.station.sony.com/patch/sha/manifest/launchpad/lp4/live/lp-eq2-ext.soe

Not sure if I did that or what. The 2nd one there doesn't exist of course, so that's probably why the Launchpad-patcher just skipped updating. I've replaced the original line, and now it does the "Processing" dialog forever again.

None of this fixed what I think is the real problem, that I can't seem to download those two files:

LaunchPad.libs/Pages/images/bg.jpg

UI/Default/images/frontend/splash_logos.dds

And I actually think it's the bg.jpg one that's my real problem, but that's just a hunch, as it's having trouble CREATING that file, where as the other is "Replacing".
