5 times out of every 6 times of trying to get on a character I get stuck at Updating Environment Map. EQ2 becomes unresponsive. No matter how long I wait nothing happens. I have to force the program to close. Also, I keep getting random login errors. Had ZERO problems before update.

Same issue here. Although for me, I have not been able to successfully get in like Fearal has.

This is happening in TD for my char.

I'm getting this today now too - in Timorous Deep.. Keep getting stuck at 'Updating Environment Map' loading screen and nothing. Can't load in at all.

Semi-fix: Apparently I can bypass this error by logging into another character first, say my lvl 90 who is parked in Thundering Steppes. Then camp to character select screen and select the toon in Timorous Deep that was previously getting stuck at 'Updating Environment Map' and it loads in just fine. Just can't load in straight to that toon when you first start EQ2 (even from character select screen, must load a different character first)

This worked for me, hope it helps.

I was working fine this morning (12/0 but after the patch I can no longer load up my new BL as it hangs on "updating environment map". I can load up my other toons but not the BL. I've done the usual in clearing the cache folder and deleting the character settings and INI files but to no avail. As a note my BL is in TD as well.

A few steps you can do to help alleviate the issue.

First, delete any timorous deep related files in your Everquest IIPAKS folder

Next, follow the instructions below.

You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:

cache folder

eq2_recent.ini

eq2_default.ini

EverQuest2.exe

eq2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:

Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini

Stationname_characters.ini

To do this, please follow these directions:

1. First look for your EverQuest II Extended directory. You can find the default directory in (for Windows XP): C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II (for Windows Vista/7): C:UsersPublicSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:

3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.

4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them.

5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

I removed the files as noted but still have the same issue with the one toon. It seems odd that the problem is with only one toon. Any other suggestions?

I don't seem to have a PAKS folder. I'm using the streaming client, is that why?

I can login successfully on all but one character.

I'm still having this issue, even after following the instructions, and it's now no longer guaranteed I will be able to successfully log in by logging into a different toon first. ):

Update: I fibbed. Apparently I forgot to delete the stuff in the Paks folder (should learn to read directions more carefully! ) After deleting anything related to Timorous Deep (just ran a search for the word "Tim" in the Paks folder inside the EQ2 folder) and running the patcher, it now works. <3 Thanks!

That's great news! The cause of the issue is more than likely on our end so you might have to repeat that again in the future but we aren't ignoring it. We'll do what we can on our end to fix it once its all figured out.

Having this problem also, and it is only associated with Timorous Deep. When it happens, it's always during the "updating environmental map" portion of the loading process.

However, this is not a new problem, neither for myself nor others. For some reason it keeps popping back up. Search on the forums and you'll see similar posts as far as 3 years back (believe I saw one from 200, always with the same suggestions. I made a post about it myself a few months back, but it seemed to fix itself. Unfortunately, it's back.

Thanks, JoshM, for the help, but really this needs to be addressed by the devs because it keeps coming back and happening to so many people. I don't want to have to keep deleting files - the exact same files for the exact same zone - over and over again. I did it again a couple of hours ago, but it's getting frustrating. It's obviously an issue with Timorous Deep on SOE's end, not ours. There has to be a more permanent solution than us deleting and re-downloading every time we encounter it. (EDIT: Oops sorry, didn't see your very last post until now. I kinda repeated what you already said.)

It's extremely random. Random times, random characters. However, the frequency seems to be a lot higher than I've experienced in the past. This is really bad considering many of my alts have a house in TD, and our guild hall is located in TD, so I end up in that zone a lot. Frankly, I'm afraid to zone into TD because of this bug.

New Problem: Now the game freezes at Loading Zone Resources. Again, it's Timorous Deep only that's doing this.

As previously posted, I followed the above advice and so far it is working. Granted it's only been a day, but at least I haven't had the Updating Environment Map issue. However, the first time I zoned into TD today, I got a Loading Zone Resources and the game just stopped. I couldn't ALT TAB out; I had to use CTRL ALT DEL to bring up the task manager and force EQ2 to close.

You know of course that forcing EQ2 to close in this manner is messy, and it's bad for both the computer and the files. We're gonna end up corrupting even more files if we have to keep doing this. We need a better solution.

Okay so I just said the Updating Environment Map was fixed and I had a new problem being the game freezes at Loading Zone Resources. Well, apparently I spoke too soon, because the game just locked up a minute ago at Updating Environment Map once again. And still, it's Timorous Deep.

Here's my TD experience for today thus far:

1. Used Call Home on one toon. He lives in TD, and had no problem zoning in. He zoned into his house, then when I zoned back out to TD, I got stuck at Loading Zone Resources.

2. Used Call Home on a second toon that also lives in TD. This time first time in (I had just restarted the game because of the first problem) I get stuck at Updating Environment Map. It was only yesterday that I deleted my files as the suggested fix.

Will update if I have more issues today.

I'm having the same issue. I tried removing all of the files TSR-JoshuaM suggested and I still can't log into my Beast Lord. Seems to be the only character this is happening on. Still getting stuck on Updating Environment Map. Logged her out last night in Mok Rent.

I went ahead and put in a /petition to have her moved from Mok Rent to anywhere so I can log in. I'll have to make a mental note not to log out in the Mok Rent area. I had 2 other characters that were logged out in different areas of TD and I'm able to log both of them in.

Its why I have 13 alts)

I could lose 3 toons a session due to this issue and would have to have customer services move them someplace else; so I really do sympathise and know just how annoying this is. It was suggested that it was due to:: not enough memory- data execution prevention-my firewall settings-isp blocking or losing data packets port forwarding settings incorrect and a whole host of other things. But when I found out folks that had high end rigs were getting it to- I realised it was NOT!!! my PC)

The most plausible reason I was given was that it sounded like a server hand-off issue and that it may be down to memory management ((within the game itself)) between zones. It kicked in just after TSO launched when something was done to "help memory management on lower end machines??" which broke the game while zoning for a lot of folks back then as well.

Does that help at all, Joshua?

There were many regions of the game I could not zone into, among them: The Peat Bog, GOROWYN and TD (all Areas) Thundering Steppes, (all areas) Common Lands, Sinking Sands, Maj Dul and especially my guild hall in Antonica.

I HAVE been kicked back to toon select when logging to TD a few times with my new BL but thought maybe that was just a random glitch....maybe its not as random as I would like to think after reading this....

Hope this helps- and hang in there guys who cant zone. I know that's the case in my situation at least. No other zone does this to me. Also, not sure if you are getting the same thing or not, because I've never been kicked back to toon select. The game simply stops responding at Updating Environment Map and requires using the Task Manager to forcibly shut EQ2 down.

Whether I've been playing for 5 minutes or 5 hours, zoning into Timorous Deep is now a game of Russian roulette. It's really getting frustrating. Unless Customer Service is going to give us a free upgrade to the T3 guild hall so we can move out of TD (and new houses for my alts so I can get them all out of TD), this needs to be fixed ASAP.

I'm getting sick and tired of deleting files every freaking day. It just happened to me yet again about 15 minutes ago. I'm losing interest in the game because it's not a whole lot of fun when you are getting kicked/locked so much. It's extremely frustrating. I didn't even play yesterday because of this experience, and that's saying something considering how much I enjoy Frostfell and how long I've been looking forward to it. This is simply making the game unenjoyable.

Can we get an update on what SOE are doing to fix this bug?

And yes it is a bug. I tried all the deleting fixes with no go, so I then downloaded the whole game again from steam. I get the exact same issue in TD as I did from another install directory.
I've been having the same problem zoning into TD from pretty much anywhere. The most disastrous one was when it locked while I was flying in from BB Mountains. It's a long way down when you zone into mid air. Sometimes it works on the first or second try, sometimes it takes several tries, sometimes it works camping from another character. It seems to be random.

This continues to happen to me as well-i have moved all my characters out of td-but my guild's hall is in td-and we dont have a crafting recipe vendor amenity yet, so every crafting tier , i have to gate back to freeport, or qeynos, or halas or kelethin-and buy that tiers essentials, then use my call to guild ability, because i dont want to get stuck in gorowyn for two days while i wait for someone to answer my petition and move me. Imagine how many new players we are losing, because they made the mistake of choosing td as their starting area?-and now more recently, a new crash has popped up, where it drops me at loading entity resources" or something to that effect. Before this cursed update, this game ran beautifully on my pc-now its a crapshoot whether or not i can log in.

Yeah this fix isn't lasting long at all anymore. It seems to be getting worse. I just deleted my files a little while ago, and now it just locked up again at Updating Environment Map.

I'm not sure if it's related or not, but ever since AoD launched, I'm also noticing occasional reoccurences of the old RZI delay. Sometimes it can take up to a full minute before the RZI phase proceeds. Not nearly as bad as we experienced last February, but it's the first time I've seen any RZI delay since that was last fixed.

Also, the Loading UI Resources has been experiencing repeated and frequent delays. I'm not sure what's so special that the UI has to be reloaded every time you zone. It makes the least sense when you are teleporting within the same zone, such as using the upstairs/downstairs teleport pads in Gorowyn. It's the same zone, so why the long delay on reloading anything UI-related? It can take from 10-20 seconds on the loading UI resources phase. Usually (pre-AoD) it's almost instantaneous.

The computer running the game is a Windows 7 sp1 x64 Core i7 PC and is wired to the network.

Made sure security suite client was up to date (this is different from having up to date definitions).

Double checked to make absolutely sure that since EQ2 is installed in the Public accessable files, that none of the folder containing media were being accidently included into Windows 7 Library functions such as the game's sound files (.mp3) and/or any icon or file, including screenshots that might be picked up as a "photo" and somehow interfer with the smooth function of EQ2.

I was concerned that maybe "accidental" Windows 7 Library functions may interfer with smooth execution of the game creating the "not responding" issue and resulting "cross-thread deadlock" errors found in Windows event viewer.

Or some kind of QoS RSVP media priority glitch is happening.

The game doesn't crash. It simply hangs. I am at a loss. Until a solution is found, guess I will need to stay away from TD and Gorowyn .

For the past two weeks I've had a lot of trouble zoning to Timorous Deep (Gorowyn specifically).

I don't think it's happened logging in from character select, but only when zoning from another zone or my house. I don't have any problems with any other zones. It gets stuck at the "updating environment map" bit, then the game becomes unrespnsive and I have to force close it. If I then close the launcher (I have the streaming client) and start up again fresh, I can get back in.

It's happening on average 7 or 8 times a night. Thankfully it's not a bad problem, but it's still very much inconvenient.

Is there any further word on a long term fix?

Having this issue still after the patch, except now I can't get back in at all. I've deleted all of the gorowyn and TD files I can find in Paks, and I've deleted my cache and everything else.

Stuck at Updating environment map, can't get past it. Anything else I can try?
Done what TSR-JoshuaM indicated, and others have done, and still cannot log in my character from Mok Rent/TD. This is very frustrating.
